1;01? That's clearly Captain America's helmet.

I have to say it looks like Ultron's going to be the best villain the MCU has seen.

"I'll take that from them first." James fucking Spader, son.

I was actually referring to the cut right after it which shows something that looks a lot like Wolverine's claw.

Ah that? Oh no I have no idea what that is. Might be connected to that scruffy looking guy seen in the first trailer.

I like the really intense sort of Dark Charisma James Spader gives Ultron. I at first had my doubts about him replacing Tom Kane, but these trailers have made a believer out of me.

We might as well rename this thread as the 'Age of Ultron general discussion thread.'

Just got back.

Initial impression: solid popcorn flick with some nice moments, a decent 4/10

And finally Paul Bettany has a proper role in the form of the amazingly silly Vision. Chuckled when he one-handed Mjolnir like it wasn't a big deal. And in the post-credit teaser, Thanos dusts off the glove to end all gloves...

4/10 is decent? ^^^

I saw and it yesterday, I'd say it's the 4th best MCU film after The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Iron Man. I'd give it a 7.5

On reflection, I realise I was being unfair in my initial assessment.

As such, I'd now give it a 5/10. There were some neat little moments, a few decent character beats, good VFX that made the almost obligatory "SMASH CITY SMASH" sequence something other than warmed-over, and an actual heart (in sharp contrast to Avengers Assemble). More than forgettable, less than truly memorable.

Just watched it. Movie was very entertaining and certainly had great moments, but there were pacing issues and even though Ultron came across as far more menacing than Ronan from GotG, to me, AoU still felt more of the middle movie of a sequence of movies that was filmed together ala LotR. If that was the feel that Whedon and Feige was aiming for, I guess they were successful.

My favourite part of the film:

Hawkeye telling Captain America he wasn't a match for Ultron, only for Cap to go one-on-one with him and work him over like the world's most durable mook for about half an hour.

I saw it last week (yay for occasionally getting movies much, much earlier than the US, for some reason).

There may or may not be issues with the movie, including, but not limited to - plot holes, bad pacing, poor characterisation, etc. etc. I'm sorry I cannot comment on them. I was too distracted by my unrelenting, continual nerd-gasm. Oh my god was his movie so much fun.

Sources of aforementioned nerd-gasm include, but are not necessarily limited to -

  • The HYDRA base has a force field shield
  • Stark squeeing like a kid in a candy store when he discovers the secret door
  • Cap+Thor taking out a mechanised HYDRA squad with hammer+shield munchkinry
  • Stark has drones.
  • Ohmahgod JARVIS has orbital satellite coverage.
  • Avengers Tower! Ohgodsoshiny! Oh god so many WALDOS!
  • Mad Science
  • Ultron properly abusing the 'I have reserves, I am everywhere' caveat of being an infomorph
  • The Hulkbuster Suit drops from orbit.
  • Stark is legitimately hilarious during the fight against the hulk
  • Yay! Hawkeye's family!
  • Fury gonna Fury.
  • The Hulkbuster Suit drops from orbit.
  • MORE MAD SCIENCE
  • JARVIS survives Ultron's violent birth-throes, gets uploaded into vibranium body, is awesome.
  • Ultron's plan to raise a mountain into orbit, then fire it back. I swear I was watching a game of Planetary Annihilation.
  • Scarlet Witch kicking all kinds of telekinetic ass.
  • Nick Motherfuckin' Fury on the Original Motherfuckin' Helicarrier!
  • The Hulkbuster Suit Drops From Orbit!

The banter was my favorite part of the movie, Ultron himself was hilarious.

"Everyone creates the thing that they dread. Men of peace create engines of war. Invaders create Avengers. People create... smaller people...? CHILDREN! -Heh lost the word there..."

Sorta the opposite of what you expect a sapient malevolent AI to act like.

Still the movie has lots of convenient coincidences but it was still an enjoyable experience.

I liked it, but the only major plothole I can see, and care about, is this: Did Thanos break into Asgard just to steal the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's vault at the end? Did nobody see him, or is everyone dead? I'm hoping for the former, but guessing the latter, since Thor's vision says everyone in Asgard is fucked.

I really enjoyed how Ultron would go back and forth between grandiose malevolence, scatterbrained cheerfulness, and outbursts of childish rage; it's a much more interesting take on the classic "evil AI" than "beep boop Skynet" or "bow before Ultron, worms!"

On an entirely different note, was anyone else kind of put off at the random rape joke Tony dropped during the "lift Thor's hammer" scene? Like, "wait what? Did he seriously just say that?"

Blessedly I missed that :L

Also I found Ultron to be the most human and relatable character on the cast after Hawkeye/Black Widow :V

e: edited because how did I forget Aunty Nat??????
