Chapter 3:06 Dinner with Misaka
Chapter 3:06 Dinner With Misaka

[X] Hang with Misaka for Dinner (Can ask questions)
-[X] Ask about the other Misaka you saw once

"Sure, I'll take you up on that offer." You reply immediately. "Since you're paying, where do you want to go?"

"Joseph's. I got there all the time." Misaka replies. The two of you wave goodbye to Saten after everyone vaults over the rusting chain link fence. Then you head off in the direction of Josephs.

You order a salad. You weren't really interested in what you were eating today. What you really wanted to know was about how differently Misaka acted before in the train yard. You were going to play it cool though, and get there slowly.

"So, you're new in town aren't you?" Misaka asked informally. You nod. "Kuroko's told me that you've had many run-ins with Judgement. What have you been up to anyways?"

"Most of it had nothing to do with anything I did. On my first day in town, I was getting mugged by some punks, and I wounded one then ran." Misaka nodded, as if she's been in a similar situation before. "After that, I went to Judgement for help finding my roommate, who went missing. We after a few days, we found her in this strange lab that had some telepathic headache barrier surrounding it. Then I've been around there trying to find information about my dad. He conducted experiments on me while I slept, and my mom caught him in the act. It turns out that he's not actually my father, and he may be more involved with the lab that I helped Anti-skill and Judgement raid that was kidnapping child errors." Misaka looked uneasy, but was still attentive. "I also saved Wannai and Awatsuki from another mugging event, although they probably didn't actually need my help."

"It seems like you've had quite the eventful week here so far." Misaka comments. "I can tell that you're like me; an action taker." You can't stand by and do nothing, and that's a good thing, despite how much the city tries to control us. Anyways, do anything else interesting?" It's time to change the topic.

"Yeah, now that you mentioned it, I saw something strange yesterday. I was poking around in the abandoned train yard in my district and noticed another girl poking around."

"Did you ask her who she was?"

"Yes. It was you."

There's a long pause. Misaka rests her chin in her hand, like she's in deep thought. "Kuroko told me about this. There was some report of someone spotting me out there. I'm certain it wasn't me though, because I was hanging around in the Garden of Learning that day."

"Do you think you know who it is though? I mean, she was a splitting image of you, but she talked in a strange monotone voice, almost like she was taught to speak by a text to speech translator." You comment.

"To my knowledge there isn't anybody in this city who looks similar to me. It might have been some hologram machine or some other espers pulling a prank. But I can ensure you that I wasn't there. I was preoccupied with… other things…" Misaka seem agitated for some reason. You want to know why.

"Like what?"

Misaka turned as red as a tomato. "I can't tell you. I was in the Garden of Learning to… uhh… SHOP! Yeah, that's it!" You can tell the nature of what she was doing, but it's clear she's not going to disclose what really going on. Your food shows up, and Misaka intentionally focuses on eating to avoid the discussion of the 'shopping' that Misaka was doing.

You wave goodbye as you head home. The sky is pretty dark, and the street lamps are on. It is way past curfew, but you'll probably be fine, because there aren't any people watching when you come and go. You walk along the dimly lit concrete pathways when you're suddenly grabbed and pulled into the nearby alley. You attempt you yell to draw attention to the attack, but your mouth is being held shut somehow. A face appears in the dark alleyway near yours, and you squint to get a good look. It's the invisible guy from before, in the Lab. He holds a single finger in front of his mouth, signaling you to be quiet. He releases your struggling shoulders as he says, "I need your help."

And... it was awkward first meeting event with Misaka Mikoto. We are That Guy.

[X] Be polite and quiet, and then listen

[X] Be polite and quiet, and then listen

Can't help him unless we listen to him first, so I just hope he doesn't want to kidnap us and give us to our father.

[X] Be polite and quiet, and then listen

Our character is a female Touma with how she gets caught up in all these incidents! Soon she shall have girls swooning after her to, even though she is likely straight!

-edit-

Incidentally I finally caught up with the quest again after I lost track of it awhile ago.

I wonder if anyone realized that the PC's ability closly resembles Edward Elric's Alchemy.

Well...sort of. MC here can move atoms around, but can't change what they are, can't affect anything complicated, and certainly can't make people from scratch. Once she starts messing with gases at a distance, or the foundations of buildings, and creating complicated tools from spare metal, she'll match FMA alchemy.

There are a few directions for Suzushina to start experimenting and growing into that sort of flexibility. Liquids is a good one. Molecular bonds rather than molecular placement is huge. Graphite to diamond or buckyballs or graphene would be handy. Not sure how to get control to propagate farther, though. Affecting larger and larger things is probably going to be simple and grow alongside everything else.

In other words: She needs to reach a higher ability level to replicate FMA alchemy. BTW, if you follow the Railgun manga you'll know:
The scientsts in academy city somewhat successfuly created an artificial soul, meaning that "human transmutation" ny espers could be possible. Of course everyones favorite Tsunderailgun gets dragged into that particular clusterf*ck.

[X] Be mildly irritated. "That's not a good way to approach someone and ask them for help." After he acknowledges that he should be more polite, then listen.

What all this being polite and listening to the guy that grabbed us very rudely?

I mean, he's not really a kidnapper, so screaming isn't right, but I think we ought to make it clear that in the future he should not believe he can summon our assistance by treating us like a kidnappee.

Chapter 3:07 A request from a "friend"
3:07 A request from a "friend"

"You could be nice about that, you know. Grabbing someone like me off the street could get you stabbed. Just be careful about that, alright?" You cross your arms, and lean against the wall. "But you have my attention. I'm assuming you would like my help with something."

"That's right." The high school student replied in a staggered voice. "My employers, the people you fought, took my sister again. So I thought that instead of doing their bidding, I would ask you for help this time, instead of just kidnapping people off the street agai…"

"But we locked those people up! Shirai arrested them, and Anti-skill threw them in prison! How could they already be out?" You frustrated reply.

The boy sighed. "That's what I've been wondering too. So I listened in on them after they confronted me about my sister. Anti-skill just let them out! They had some connection… some Kawaguchi Toshiro, I think?"

Kawaguchi Toshiro, the man who raised you like a father while conducting experiments on you. He was behind it and was probably behind putting your actual father behind bars. These telepath experiments were Kawaguchi's idea, and he's probably continuing the study.

"Hey, you listening?" The boy says when he snaps his fingers in front of your face. "You looked like you zoned out there. Does Kawaguchi ring any bells to you?" You nod, but decide to withhold your information about him being your 'father' for the time being.

"But why do you need my help? With your whole invisible thing, you could just kidnap your sister from them when they're not looking, right?"

"That not how my power works you…" He takes a breath. "Look, I can bend light in the area around me. They've put her in a locked stasis chamber, like where all the other students were put in. I can't get her out without the passcode. If I broke the glass on the tank, the alarms would notify them, and they would catch me. I can't hide from them either, because they have handheld devices that can find me, and the cameras are equipped with infrared cameras."

"Ok, well… Why me? The judgement officer who helped you before could probably to a better job than I. Why not ask her instead?" You question. You don't want to get dragged into this situation for no good reason.

"I can't ask Judgement or Anti-skill. I'm certain that this Kawaguchi is with the city council. If they know I'm resisting them, they could do horrible things to her."

"Ok, one last question. Why should I believe you? As far as I know, this is a trap for your employers to capture and punish me. Can't they just mind control you anyways? They're building a mind control device after all." He's hesitating. Beads of sweat roll down his face while he waits. The stress he must be under while he maintains his power must be getting to him.

"You… can't." He sighs. "But you're one of the only people I've seen with the guts to stand up against these monsters. And I can't let them do any more harm to my sister. You have to help me!" He closes his eyes and kneels on the ground.
