Chapter 3:06 Dinner With Misaka
[X] Hang with Misaka for Dinner (Can ask questions)
-[X] Ask about the other Misaka you saw once
"Sure, I'll take you up on that offer." You reply immediately. "Since you're paying, where do you want to go?"
"Joseph's. I got there all the time." Misaka replies. The two of you wave goodbye to Saten after everyone vaults over the rusting chain link fence. Then you head off in the direction of Josephs.
You order a salad. You weren't really interested in what you were eating today. What you really wanted to know was about how differently Misaka acted before in the train yard. You were going to play it cool though, and get there slowly.
"So, you're new in town aren't you?" Misaka asked informally. You nod. "Kuroko's told me that you've had many run-ins with Judgement. What have you been up to anyways?"
"Most of it had nothing to do with anything I did. On my first day in town, I was getting mugged by some punks, and I wounded one then ran." Misaka nodded, as if she's been in a similar situation before. "After that, I went to Judgement for help finding my roommate, who went missing. We after a few days, we found her in this strange lab that had some telepathic headache barrier surrounding it. Then I've been around there trying to find information about my dad. He conducted experiments on me while I slept, and my mom caught him in the act. It turns out that he's not actually my father, and he may be more involved with the lab that I helped Anti-skill and Judgement raid that was kidnapping child errors." Misaka looked uneasy, but was still attentive. "I also saved Wannai and Awatsuki from another mugging event, although they probably didn't actually need my help."
"It seems like you've had quite the eventful week here so far." Misaka comments. "I can tell that you're like me; an action taker." You can't stand by and do nothing, and that's a good thing, despite how much the city tries to control us. Anyways, do anything else interesting?" It's time to change the topic.
"Yeah, now that you mentioned it, I saw something strange yesterday. I was poking around in the abandoned train yard in my district and noticed another girl poking around."
"Did you ask her who she was?"
"Yes. It was you."
There's a long pause. Misaka rests her chin in her hand, like she's in deep thought. "Kuroko told me about this. There was some report of someone spotting me out there. I'm certain it wasn't me though, because I was hanging around in the Garden of Learning that day."
"Do you think you know who it is though? I mean, she was a splitting image of you, but she talked in a strange monotone voice, almost like she was taught to speak by a text to speech translator." You comment.
"To my knowledge there isn't anybody in this city who looks similar to me. It might have been some hologram machine or some other espers pulling a prank. But I can ensure you that I wasn't there. I was preoccupied with… other things…" Misaka seem agitated for some reason. You want to know why.
"Like what?"
Misaka turned as red as a tomato. "I can't tell you. I was in the Garden of Learning to… uhh… SHOP! Yeah, that's it!" You can tell the nature of what she was doing, but it's clear she's not going to disclose what really going on. Your food shows up, and Misaka intentionally focuses on eating to avoid the discussion of the 'shopping' that Misaka was doing.
…
You wave goodbye as you head home. The sky is pretty dark, and the street lamps are on. It is way past curfew, but you'll probably be fine, because there aren't any people watching when you come and go. You walk along the dimly lit concrete pathways when you're suddenly grabbed and pulled into the nearby alley. You attempt you yell to draw attention to the attack, but your mouth is being held shut somehow. A face appears in the dark alleyway near yours, and you squint to get a good look. It's the invisible guy from before, in the Lab. He holds a single finger in front of his mouth, signaling you to be quiet. He releases your struggling shoulders as he says, "I need your help."
