Astrid Ivanovich and The Spinner's Key [HP]

[x] Excitement. All this sneaking around is thrilling, and will make the payoff even better. You can hardly wait to see those bullies' faces.
[x] Tell him you were only trying to find Ron, and didn't hear anything at all. You don't want to think about what would happen if he knew you listened in on purpose.
-[x] Watch his reaction, but before he can respond, ask if the lie was good enough.
--[x] "I didn't really understand a lot of what you were talking about, but it feels like something I should be really good at nothaving heard."

Are you talking about the book thing? Because in that case, no. We would've been better no matter which of the other two options we would've chosen. We would've still had our book and an easy and quick way to learn about the War. As for this vote, a little white lie probably won't hurt, even if Harry notices that we're lying.

We're going to learn about the war anyway, so it would not have helped us at all. When it's discovered we've been hiding booksof dark arts, we'd be in far worse trouble though

I honestly don't see the point in lying. Not only has Astrid literally just seen Harry sniff out a lie in an instant, she hasn't really been established as a liar. At every opportunity we have voted her to be kind and honest.

Yeah. Previous updates indicate that Astrid doesn't see the point in the concept of lying.

We could have hid it indefinitely or gotten rid of it when we were done with it without getting caught, and we would have learned information from that book that wasn't just about the War that we won't get easy at Hogwarts.

By every oppurtunity do you mean that one time? And also, how good a lie we tell will be dependent on the dice. The kid was an obviously shitty liar, we might not be.

We'll probably get the book back once we get home, y'know. Dad just doesn't want us walking down Diagon Alley carrying a Dark book. We'll get a stern telling off from him, be allowed to read it during summer and then he'll make us leave it with him. At home. Not at Hogwarts.

I mean, to name a few:-

1. Kind, loving, united family.
2. Get along great with our sister.
3. Hold back on doing magic for everything when we could do it the muggle way.
4. Listens to and respects her parents.
5. Helps disabled kids when specifically told to stay with dad.

[X] A bit of both. You're doing this for all the right reasons, and you want to see your plan play out, but the thought of things going wrong still puts you on edge.

[X] Answer truthfully. You really don't want to lie to the Chief Auror, even if you do get in trouble.

That doesn't necesarily mean being honest. It just means that we're happy and kind.

Yes, because that was going to happen.

and we would have learned information from that book that wasn't just about the War that we won't get easy at Hogwarts.

The greater the chance it contained useful information, the greater the chance we can find it elsewhere.

Meta reason: Harry Potter is gonna go off on us about eavesdropping? Really, Harry, really?!
I gotta say though, Harry & Ron are pretty hardcore when it comes to eavesdropping. We might not meet their high standards.

I mean, I'm not sure if we can top "stealing potion ingredients, kidnapping your rival's closest friends, masquerading as them in the heart of your rival's territory, then using the info and family connections to arrange a police raid on the mansion of your rival's family". While twelve years old. ^_^

By the way, he probably know that bullshit look in the eye of someone and see their though by now (don't remember the proper name) and probably has a few thing to find liar. Lying isn't going to work here.

Haha this is GREAT !

I don't think we should be lying all the time, but in this case this is the kind of lie that presents little risk, if we get caught, kids feeling guilty lie all the time, not big deal.

And I do think we need to be able to lie if necessary, that's an occasion to "train".

[X] A bit of both. You're doing this for all the right reasons, and you want to see your plan play out, but the thought of things going wrong still puts you on edge.

[X] Tell him you heard a bit, but don't admit that you were eavesdropping. That's more believable than denying it outright.

My feeling exactly. If we vote to tell the truth all the time, we won't lie when it counts. Look at the Dark Arts book. If we want to keep it, we are going to need to lie about it to everyone else. If we don't have the ability to lie, and are all was honest, we can't do that.

Honesty is a bad trait to have, especially when we plan to learn forbidden things. When a vote isn't critical, we should vote to lie, even if we get caught. Why? Because getting caught will motivate us to hide things better.

Some really interesting discussion for this vote! I've enjoyed reading it. I'm probably going to start the update in an hour or two, since telling the truth is winning out by five votes, if my tally's correct.
