What is evil? (Rolled 11) 1 away from a great failure
Explore the Pit (Rolled 92) Great Success

The more you think about this problem the harder it gets! It's starting to physically hurt with how difficult this is despite how simple it should be! You've already destroyed a window in your frustration and were almost seen by onlookers who investigated the noise! You don't know how much more you can take of this!

You need a break, something to take your mind off of things, do some exploring, anything! Yes... perhaps that is a good idea, some time out of the tower so you can rearrange your thoughts...

Anything should be better than this!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It seems that exploring the Pit was exactly what you needed, as you were searching you stumbled across one of the more major local landmarks, one of the oldest buildings in the Pit. A local tavern known as the Laughing Cup situated a few blocks from the Spire, it's run by a portly dwarf named Tigi who seems to know everyone who enters the place. The Laughing Cup has served as a gathering point and impromptu community center for the people of the Pit since it was founded.
You considered going inside but ultimately decided you couldn't risk using up your twenty-minute limit so early, so you began to continue searching. Eventually finding a place called Greenstone Mine, Greenstone is the largest of the jade mines in Highmount and a good portion of the Pit finds employment there, that said, the owner is rumored to employ local gangs to harass other mines in the area so she can keep her edge.
Soon after discovering this you decide you've been outside for long enough, nobody's noticed you yet but you can't explore for long...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Exploration Event)

However, it seems you had a bit of an issue on your way back, in one of the alleyways you noticed some movement, deciding to take the risk you stuck to the shadows and snuck in.

"I said give me the money!"

"I don't have any!"

"Bullshit! I saw you at the tavern, spending heavy you were. Now hand it over!"

A mugging, you believe it's called, is happening. A man being held at knifepoint by another man, if the victim doesn't hand over his valuables the mugger will surely kill him...

Well, you might get some real stress relief after all.

"I don't think you should be doing that..." You speak telepathically "I recommend you stop... now."

"Who the fuck said tha-" The mugger stops as he turns his head to see you. "Oh Gods, what the hell are you?"

The victim breaks free and backs away from you both with shaky legs.

"What the Hell indeed." You tell him, might as well have some fun. "Where did that bravado of yours go? It was so very amusing..."

You open your mouth as your proboscis-like tongue lolls out, you stretch out your clawed hands and let out an unearthly sound.

"Fuck this!"

The mugger attempts to flee but you're on him to quickly for him to get far, you grab him by the neck and he tries to stab at your arm to get free. You grab with your other hand and wrench the knife free before tossing it to the side. You bring your fingers together and raise your hand, leveling it with his eyes.

Now that your so close to him you can feel it, the greed, the hate, the avarice... All of those feelings you once sought to instill in mortal hearts.

"Disgusting..."

Your claws tear through the skull and liquefy his brain with ease, you twist your wrist and his disfigure head is ripped from his neck and sent flying into a nearby wall. You shake the blood and brain matter from your claws before turning towards the victim, still cowering in the corner of the alleyway, tears filling his eyes as he looks at you, no doubt believing you're about to do the same to him.

You slowly make your way to him, keeping your eyes level with him before you speak.

"You are safe now." He reels back at that. "Go."

He closes his eyes and you hide in the shadows once again.

[Easily Forgotten]
When he opens them he has only the vaguest memory of being saved by, someone or something that vanished soon after. He takes one look at the mugger's corpse and flees, unable to even begin to describe who you are or what you did. Only your words to him, echoing in his mind...

That felt... good...

You discovered The Laughing Cup and Greenstone Mine
Another near great failure at What is Evil will have consequences.

Your first event, I'm glad.

Train Fleeting Visage (Rolled 90) Great Success

Training your mortal guise to last longer was easier than you thought it would be, you slipped into it throughout the day and attempted to force yourself to stay in it longer and longer each time. At first, you only gained at most a fraction of a second at great effort, but soon enough you noticed definite improvement.

You began to focus much more on this exercise in order to achieve the results you need, like a mental muscle you've never used to the point of atrophy it began to grow in strength until it bagan to become easy. You have no doubt that you still have room to improve but you've started, and that is no small feat for you.

Fleeting Visage can now last for 25 Minutes

Repair the Spire (Rolled 44) Success

The Spire is a serious state of disrepair, you have your doubts any mortal being would it livable. The lower floors are devastated, most likely from fighting, and many of the rooms were stripped of anything not bolted down, it would take months to sort through the entire mess to see if anything is worth saving.

For now you've started clearing out the rubble, gathering it into one massive pile, so that you can begin to have some actual room to work with...

This is going to take a long time...

Repair the Spire (Rolled 93): Great Success (So close to a crit!)

You've found something to help you clearing the Spire of rubble, an abandoned cart from a few blocks away from the Spire. It took a bit of searching and repairing to get it working but once it was functional you were able to make headway on clearing out the rubble, in fact, you think you might have found an area that isn't as damaged as the rest of the tower.

Once you clear the rubble blocking your entrance you'll be able to take a rood look at it, if your lucky you might be able to fix it up and have more room to expand your lair. Perhaps even create some new rooms to aid you...

Event

Something happened in town today, a miner was buying some food when he suddenly lashed out at the merchants and attempted to steal their gold. Guards were called and it broke out into a massive riot, at least twelve people were killed and many more were injured, including three guards that first responded to the violence.

The rioters escaped to somewhere in the Pit and the guard are launching a full manhunt in order to locate them, this will make snaking around much more difficult for you...

Best keep an eye out.

What is Evil? (Rolled 84) Success

You think you've found an answer, at least part of one. You've been watching these memories, searching for anything that could help elucidate this bizarre and complicated question when you came to a realization. The reason none, save a few, mortals viewed themselves as evil was simple, for many evil is something that can only be attributed after the fact.

Ends and means play a central role in both good and evil, something you had trouble understanding. For many the world is not black and white, but a mass of grey of varying shades that cannot be sorted through unless looking backwards. As a lesser devil you were simply made to only understand the black, and as such could only think of the grey as more black, such intricacies were lost on you.

Just as someone can to an evil thing for good reasons, someone can do a good thing for evil reasons, and you must be able to judge the good or evil of the individual on a case by case basis, however... there are still exceptions...

Now that you are able to sort through the moral haze you can see it clear as day.

Something truly evil is in this city, knowingly and gleefully evil...

Search the Spire (Rolled 13) Failure

It wasn't hard to find evidence of something horrible happening, after all you doubt those cages in the basement were there for show. However, you've had trouble actually finding the specifics of what happened or what secrets this tower holds. There is a area of the basement you haven't been able to breach, some sort of ward blocks all entry. You'll need to find a way past it to move on...

Just what was going on here?

Turn 8
Some of the guards have stopped patrolling for the rioters, some seem to believe that they fled to the tunnels under the Pit but you have your doubts. Those mortals were filled with a ravenous greed that took over their minds, they coulden't have gone far from what they desired. They're still here, waiting...

Evil in the Pit (Rolled 43)

You decided to search for the rioters, something happened to them, something connected to this foreboding presence you've felt. You need to find out what's going on before more people are caught up in it. You spend a decent amount of time looking around and listening in on what people were saying from alleyways and rooftops to see what people knew.

Apparently the miner who started the riot is named Ed Clinton, and managed to track down his home, the guards have already search the place and found nothing but your eyes see more than most mortals. The place is a hovel near Greenstone Mine, an area of particular economic inequality consisting mostly of Greenstone employees.

The front door has been sealed but you have no intention of using it, a quick climb to the roof and you quickly found a hole large enough for you to squeeze in, you aren't sure how long that hole has been their but it couldn't have made living here easy for this Ed Clinton. The building has been ransacked, every inch searched for anything that could help locate him, and then by looters searching for anything not bolted down.

Eventually you located what appears to be a hidey-hole hidden in the bedroom, it had been emptied out already, most likely by Clinton or the other rioters, but you were able to find a few gold coins buried beneath some stones. With some more work you think you have an idea of why Ed Clinton was the first one to go mad.

He was stealing from Greenstone...

The riot was caused by his greed...
Grohzubnyz urzabg nyzzuv dazghürbryv
(Rolled 50) Slight Success

Something's here.

You quickly turn to see a glimpse of something yellow dart around the corner, a flash of fabric and...

Something else...

You attempt to follow but are struck with an intense pain in your head, noises can be heard outside, somebody must have heard the commotion. You flee out the rooftop hole and and search for the thing you saw...

It's gone...

More information on what is happening has been discovered.
Ed Clinton is the source of the rioter's madness.
You encountered something yellow while investigating, it hurt to look at.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Explore the tunnels (Rolled 45)
It was harder to find an entrance to the tunnels than you expected, it seems that since most of them haven't been fully explored that the entrances are under constant surveillance to prevent anything going in, or out, of the tunnels without them knowing about it. It took some time to find a checkpoint you could sneak by, and even then only barely.
There is no denying the oppressive atmosphere of these tunnels that only grows stronger the deeper down you search, it actually reminds you somewhat of Stygia, albeit without the poison swamp made from all deceptions in the world, and significantly fewer snakes...
You mean, there are still snakes, just less of them... Actually you think you've found a snake den the more you think about it...
Still no poison swamp...
(Rolled 76-25= 51) Slight Success
Once more you feel something is watching you, more than one this time, you can hear something like... rushing air?
You look around the darkness of the tunnels, attempting to catch a glimpse of whatever saw you...
Nothing...
Best not to dwell for too long...
You have discovered the Snake Den
Easily Forgotten procks, but the target is immune
