Chirp, chirp chirp chirp. Lazily looking up at the trees, you don't really put in a lot of effort to locate the birds. Frankly, it is just another boring day, and you've gotten fed up with doing nothing.
Course, since you got nothing to do, there's really nowhere you're heading to. Glancing back at your forest house, you spot some neighbors milling about, but none of them are really your friend.
So... Might as well just wander around the forest area. Checking out the waterfall might be cool, if you remember correctly, there's apparently a lost language inscribed on the rock.
Then again, you're not really in a rush, sure you can just... wander around, look for anything interesting? Man, what are you going to do with your life? Your parents can only support you for so-
Eh? Stopping, you barely managed to notice a small hole beneath a really large tree. Judging by the shape it is in... Huh, this must be "Amirose's Tree", supposedly a sacred tree for the original natives.
Poor thing has clearly seen better days, having been... attacked? In an attempt to break and corral the natives. Neat as it is, if you had anything better to do, you'd probably leave about now.
Still... since you don't, you shrug your shoulders. Might as well indulge a brief bit of curiosity, see if there's some item in that hole or if its just something the local animals made.
Yet, as you crouch down and peer into it, you freeze- is, is that a room down there? No way... Yet, as you focus and look it over again, you're left with no doubts. How did no one find this before? Does that have anything to do with why its sacred?
Clawing at the hole, you frown at how little you manage, and even as you continue at it for several minutes... the hole doesn't really widen much. Fine then, you'll just run home and look for a shovel! No way are you passing up this chance for something exciting!
----
Huffing and grunting, you wipe your brow as you set the shovel down. Looking up at the tree-filled sky, you frown- getting close to evening. Really should of thought to get a flashlight, freaking wasting so much time going to the store...
Letting out a breath, its no big deal. There's enough time to do some brief poking around, and you'll come back tomorrow to really check it out. You can already imagine it- local man discovers ancient ruin beneath holy tree!
Descending slowly so you don't tumble downwards, once you set down in the room... you're a little disappointed. There's no obvious signs of civilization, besides what seem like collapsed-in doorways.
Tree roots all over the place, so you definitely get a "mystic" feel. Overall though, place seems rather bare, made out of dirt and wood and roots. Mean, still the most interesting thing you've done in a while...
Prodding down the hallway for who knows how long, you half-heartedly wonder how big the place is after you come across a route split. Having been glancing at the doorways, looking for an open one, you start to give up hope as you spot this route's end.
Expecting to find nothing and preparing yourself to leave, you glance to your left. Obstructed, obviously, and then to your right which is obs- open. Slowly walking up to the halfway open door, you try shimmying through.
Takes a bit of effort, but slide through you do. Glancing around the room, the one thing that really stands out is the sword- not really like any you recognize, might even just be an oversized knife.
You don't spot a sheath anywhere, and looking at the blade... were they actually wanting it to decay? You're honestly not sure what that brown-black metal is, though the silver hilt and coated edge definitely seems strange.
Unlatching the oddly simple locks, you pull the sword out of its stand pretty easily. Giving it a few practice swings, you're surprised by how light and fast it is. Honestly seemed like it'd be way hea-
Swoosh, shatter. Uh... looking dumbly at your hand, and then towards the broken sword whose blade is a bunch of different pieces... You decide not to waste any time staying. Just, gah, can't believe you were so stupid! Doing nothing all day is clearly rotting your mind...
----
Pretty much throwing yourself on the bed upon arriving home, it didn't take long to fall asleep- namely because you didn't want to be awake after that disaster. Yet as you dream...
It isn't like any dream you recall having. Sometimes you're kind-of aware, enough you can remember the details, but most of the time you don't really comprehend any of it.
This time however... you're somewhere that feels familiar, yet... obscured, like you don't even know the right concept to comprehend what it really is. Overall, it is a pretty frustrating dream, feeling like you're stuck in a empty room for hours.
Well... not quite empty. You're not sure what it is, but it seems like there's someone else in your dream. You'd sound crazy out loud, but it almost feels like an actual person.
Yet, about three-fourths of the way through your dream, that other person just... disappears, or leaves or something? The remaining one-fourth frankly just feels pretty awful, almost like you were abandoned by a close friend just then... or maybe you just hurt? Dream logic, gah...
When you finally awake, you find yourself rubbing your side. Reminds you of how the family cat, Saint Claire, used to leave you aching as a kid by sleeping on your stomach all night.
Getting up lazily out of bed with a yawn, you decide you'll eat breakfast first before bothering with your shower. Yet as you leave the bedroom, you pause as you spot your living room- an utter mess, like someone fiddled with everything they came across.
Panicking for a moment, you look around wildly for any intruder or signs of entry, then you stop- over by the kitchen area, the fridge door is bouncing about. Clear sign whoever broke in is still here...
Yet before you can really do anything, a- little girl!? Pokes her head over the corner and waves at you while smiling excitedly. "Good morning father! Do you make breakfast now?"
What? Tilting her head at you inquisitively, her silver(?) eyes blink at you. "I was having difficulty locating the food, this is such a peculiar home. Do all people use these lighted boxes nowadays?"
What? Scratching at her silver(?) hair innocently, the brown-skinned girl muses out loud. "I sort of assumed I would know more, being your daughter. Quite surprising you didn't know anything about my original self, since I seem to be lacking a name."
Just... what? Look of realization flashing on her face, the very strange little girl leaves your fridge wide open as she casually approaches you. Feeling some inexplicable(?) relief to see her wearing a silver bodysuit, the girl bows respectfully before looking up at you all excitedly.
"What is your name father? I'm quite excited to have one, this is my first time being a human being!" Her what now? Oh geez, this is all kinds of weird... maybe you're still dreaming? Gah, might be some, really weird con... Yet, not likely, but... what if she's real?

To be really short: Artifact Daughters is a project I've been toying with for a while, that's basically a daughter raising sim if they were anthropomorphic magic items.
The idea is for there to be five Artifact Daughters at most, since its a nice number that allows plenty of content without majorly sidelining any of them. Magic Sword Girl is first, mainly because her Ability will be vital for accessing the other "dungeons" containing the items that would become future Artifact Daughters.
Regarding the whole setup for the MC, having a house and financially supportive parents means I can put off the problematic "reality ensues" stuff (aka legal nonsense regarding young girls who have zero legal presence) for a while.
The overall idea is for this to be a mix of Slice-of-Life and Fantasy Adventure, with the primary plot being centered around raising & collecting Artifact Daughters. Though depending on MC, there will be some differences.
Something really important to note: The Artifact Daughters will have a "Growth Rank" system. Magic Sword Girl is currently Rank 1: Child (Age 10), and ideally would absorb her shattered vessel to reach Rank 2: Pre-Teen (Age 12).
There's a total of 5 Ranks, going Child/Pre-Teen/Tween/Teenager/Young Adult (10/12/14/16/18 respectively). How exactly moving to Rank 3/4/5 work, or alternate routes for Rank 2, I'll leave unsaid for now.
Basically though, each Rank comes with a power boost, as the magic of the Artifact Daughter grows alongside their new human form. Ranking Up isn't necessary to improve in general, though it certainly helps.
Finally, this is a primarily narrative-type Quest: No really meaty/complex mechanics, with Technique Creation & Refinement being a rather simple affair. I will say there'll likely be Special Events that can majorly impact an Artifact Daughter, though that shouldn't be for a while.
Inventory: Smartphone (ordinary up-to-date phone), Shovel (brand new, used to dig the entrance to the Amirose's Tree Forsaken Vault and fight a Golem), Hammer Shaft (broken and powerless artifact from the Amirose Vault, it is made from an unknown brown-black metal)
Minor Artifacts:Artifact Arrow (minor artifact from the Amirose Vault, has a brown-black arrowhead and white shaft), Artifact Glove-Gauntlet (minor artifact from the Amirose Vault, possesses a dominant white scheme plus blue/gold accents), Artifact Knives (two minor artifacts of presumably the same type, possesses a dominant white scheme plus blue/gold accents)
Backstory: ???
Sabrina Ventus (1st AD)
Name: Sabrina Ventus
Artifact Type: Infinity Shredder- a two foot sword made of unknown brown-black metal, with a silver hilt and silver coating its edge.
Ability: Supreme Cutter- a magical effect designed for slicing through things unnaturally well and afar.
Appearance: Standing four feet and three inches tall, she has brown skin and wears a silver bodysuit. Her eyes and curly hair are a similar shade of silver.
Growth Rank: Pre-Teen- An Instinct Nascent (possesses an affinity for offensive applications of her Ability). 2 Golem Cores drained.
Techniques: 2 Solo Unlocked, 0 Passive Unlocked, 0 Combination Unlocked Burnout Slash (Beginner): Can only be performed at max energy, yet is so messy and unrefined it is more wasteful than anything. Throwing Slash (Beginner): Can be performed without restriction, yet is too nascent and unrefined to impart much force.

I wanna be the shit dad oppose to be being the boring old good dad.

Because I like lazy protagonists.
[X] *Picks up phone.* "H-Hello? Is this the Missing Children Hotline?"
I'm very aware of how this could cause problems right off the bat, but I can't pass this up.
Huh, not a whole lot of unity. I'll give this until later today, so everyone has time to consider their votes. Don't want a lot of drop-off just because a vote won with only two people.
I am curious why almost everyone has voted for Eric Ventus, more just to know what expectations I'd be working with. Oh, I would say punching out Magic Sword Girl isn't gonna be that easy.
By the way, I'm surprised there's no Write-In regarding her supposed lack of a name. She'll likely default to "Cutter" unless the audience chooses something else.

At first glance, I thought the other two looked kinda boring, but when I actually stopped and thought about their potential arcs with "parenthood" I realized that I'm fine with any of the options.
Okay, so Justin and Eric are just one vote off from being tied, whereas the currently winning course of action is "If you're my daughter then prove it". So I'll give people a little more time to choose the MC, and Cornelius is just two votes from tying as well.
Regarding Write-Ins, this specific one "I am 17 and you look 10. Its physically impossible for me to be your dad." would actually fit Cornelius and Eric rather well. Justin would be more awkward about it, but in general he's clearly having a weird time processing all this.
To provide some more details: Cornelius is clearly the kind of guy who would jump at the call to adventure, Justin would (reluctantly) go with it more because "it is the right thing to do" than anything, whereas Eric would flip-flop primarily on what's going on. Aka "superpowers for fun and profit yeah!" or "Nope let's avoid the obviously dangerous monster."

I personally think Cornelius fits more With the intro, seems a more fun character and has a more fun name.
The fact we should vote kn daughteru name was not clear...should we?
That vote specifically will be later, but a Write-In now addressing it is allowed.
Mean, you got this mysterious little girl, who seems excited to have a father, claims to only recently be a human, and casually reveals she has no name.
Really gives off the impression she was hidden as an infant and neglected-to-an-extent, thus why she isn't outright feral yet has such disjointed knowledge on things.
A/N: Eric Ventus won narrowly by 1 vote when I began (so I'm too far in to scrap it), and the winning action is "Prove It". Honestly I'm quite surprised by the turnout this got.
----
Looking the little girl over for a few moments, she just... continues to look excitedly at you. Rubbing the back of your neck, this is still really weird but... You hope this isn't a dream, if only because you seriously don't have anything better to do.
So, a bit cautiously, you answer her. "My name's Eric Ventus…" As you continue rubbing your neck, the little girl's face just beams with excitement like you just told her Santa was real and also her indulgent grandfather.
Geez, you honestly should be more suspicious and concerned. Like, she keeps calling you father, openly admitted to having no name, and claims this is her 'first time' being a human. Either she's watched too much anime and is pulling the weirdest con, or there's some forest cult she escaped from...
Wait... No, that can't, surely not...? Looking back at the girl, and glancing over at your shovel, you massage your forehead. Mean, if that was a thing, no way everyone would of kept quiet about it.
Still... "If you're my daughter, then prove it." Mean, what can she say? You're a whole ten years older than her, unless she's a weirdly mature three year old. Not like you ever had a proper girlfriend anyways...
Blinking her eyes at you and tilting her head in thought, you watch as she strolls up to the shovel and pokes at the handle. 'Hmming' softly to herself, she practically pivots as she turns back to you.
"You dug up the entrance, which took several hours, and then you roamed the Forsaken Vault looking for me! Then you broke my vessel, meaning I had to attach to you or die! Well, I mean, 'die' would imply I was alive before you became my father!"
… Okay there's no way you could of failed to hear or see someone following you down there, wasn't anywhere to hide! Okay, no, stay calm... Looking at the still excited little girl, you let out a little sigh.
"Yeah, all that implies is you were stalking me..." Tilting her head at you confused, you're honestly tempted to assume this is a dream. After all, you're still waking up, so you're not even 100% yet anyways.
Alright, if she's really saying she was a magic sword... "Okay, so, you got magic powers then little miss sword girl?" She continues to look confused, though honestly you think she's more confused by your reactions than anything.
Trotting over to your living room couch and holding up one of the pillows, she tugs on it before asking cheerfully "Is this important? I need something to cut father."
… Mean, just a pillow, so... "Yeah, sure, whatever." Watching her toss the pillow into the air, you glance back at her to both her hands held out straight. Then, as the pillow begins falling back down, she swings out a hand-
And suddenly there's raining stuffing you have to swat away. Quickly finding the pretty-much-exploded pillow cleaved in two and on very different locations, your eyes are pretty widened.
Yeah, that was... that was way too real to be a dream. Glancing over at the girl, you startle and stop as you spot her hunched over & panting. Running your fingers through your hair, your mind is basically shutting down as so many things go by.
Finally, glancing back at your fridge door, you run over there and start poking around. Something quick, something easy, come on- ha, there we go! Grabbing a box of Hot Pockets and a bottled water, you glance over at the little girl.
You're going to need to process in a moment, but right now? You got a telekinetic child who just casually exploded an object, and insists you're her father. Upsetting her probably isn't the best idea.
Setting the Hot Pockets on the counter, you calmly yet cautiously approach the girl, not wanting to startle her. Stopping a few feet from her and holding out the water bottle, she seems to have gotten her panting under control as she looks up at you.
"I'll have something ready in a few minutes, just... drink this for now, I guess." Taking the water bottle from you and mulling it over, you watch her fiddle with it as you go back to the kitchen.
Takes longer than you'd expect, but she does manage to puzzle out how it works. Man this is so weird... Massaging your forehead and closing your eyes as you wait for the microwave to go off, you glance down as the girl speaks up before you.
"Thank you very much, I never knew water could feel so nice. Father, what exactly is a child suppose to do? I don't really know what I'm suppose to do, being a human now."
Hearing the microwave 'ding!' and opening it, you set the plate down on the table and pull out one of the chairs. You're actually a little surprised she catches on immediately, and you proceed to sit across from her.
Watching her poke at the Hot Pocket and pulling back her hand with her first look of discomfort, she kind of just... stares at it in a 'menacing' way like she's trying to frighten it into being cold.
You, however... Have some things you need to sort out regarding her. Still don't really know how to feel, and honestly you're not 100% convinced this isn't simply a complex dream.
