An Era Dawns (Worm/Kaiju)

So, first update has both Gamera and Mothra talking to us - Gamera seems to be the one in Papyrus font, based on the focus of the enemies harming the Earth (Gamera being Metaphysically connected to it in the Heisei incarnation, which the magatama imagery points towards), whilst Mothra is the cursive one (More focused on aiding others, and Mothra typically is portrayed as Nurturing, with her only kaiju attacks as memory serves being because someone decided to abuse the Fairies). Implications of Goji as the third one in the middle of the screen (Alapu Upala ending with his roar, making a trifecta of all three's cries), though thats more conjecture.

Which kind of shows that, if it wasn't already implied, Taylors abilties are probably not Shard Based, but likely psychic - All three of those monsters have at some point had Psychic links to people: Gamera with Asagi Kusanagi, Godzilla with Miki Saegusa, and Mothra with the Fairies.

Which further makes sense, because if you want to deploy Endbringers for conflict generation, you do not want a group of giant creatures that are capable of being an equivalent force that might have an easier time finding a balance with humanity because they're forces of nature instead of being biological killbots under your command. And you want them even less if several among their number specifically exist to protect the planet, the thing that you intend to explode on your way out.

I feel like you're missing the word "still" between "likely" and "psychic", because I feel like there's an implied comparison to Skitter here.
I was mainly focusing on the fact that the source of the abilities is decidedly not going to be shard based in origin... in part because I somehow forgot that Trigger Events are a thing.

That said, I don't think Taylors abilities will be as direct as Skitters - the Kaiju are intelligent beings with their own sense of self. We might be able to forge a connection, but I don't think we can control them per se. Given Lunaryon's mentioned 'Mantling', I think it'll be intereting to see how that all shakes out.

A Winter Morning
Already the dream you had has slipped away, distant and fading in the light of the morning sun. At the same time, the stupid clock next to your bed continues to ring and ring and ring, the sounds echoing in your head like the hammering of drums. With a groan, you reach over, lightly slapping at the thing. The ringing continues, even as you knock the damned thing over. With a groan and a stretch, you stumble out of bed. Turning the clock right side up, you finally hit the snooze. Before grabbing your glasses off the bedside table.

A quick moment is all it takes to gather your clothes for the day, before you stumble out of the room and into the bathroom.

Standing there in the dark of the bathroom, you blink slowly. Then you blink again. Your thoughts are still filled with the thick cotton candy fog of sleep, and there is something wrong. Something that isn't the way that it is supposed to be, but your mind fails to catch onto it.

There is a moment where you are distracted by that distant flickering over by the wall. Did… Did Dad buy one of those like, little plug in night light things? Why would he do that?

You yawn, stretching up towards the sky, and in that moment your eyes drift closed for a moment, the thoughts stuttering against your consciousness drifting away as you scratch at the side of your belly.

Huh. It's dark in here. Oh. You forgot to turn on the lights. That would be why. That explains the… Wait. No. That doesn't explain- flicking the lights on, you hiss flinching back and bringing an arm up to block your eyes.

You do that every morning. You'd think that you'd eventually remember to stop doing that. Whatever. The bathroom is cold, like tiny knives scratching against your skin, and you don't like it. On top of that, you ache.

Just all across your everything. Every part of you aches. Now, you did fall out of bed during the middle of the night, so that might be a part of you you hurt, but that doesn't change the fact that you hurt, and hurting hurts.

Hurting… Hurts? Really, brain. Is that the best that you are capable of coming up with at the moment?

You'd ask where you managed to come up with something like that, and where you got this defective brain of yours from, but the answers to that wouldn't be that funny, and would instead just make you feel sort of sad. Instead, you shake your head. You still need to take a shower, if only to try and banish the cold, and if you end up spending a little longer than normal relishing the feel of the hot water on your skin, then who's going to complain?

Dad always gets up before you do, he's always finished with his shower before you even get out of bed, and it's just the two of you so that means that you could waste all the hot water if you wanted to. Not that you want to, or have a need to, but it is something that you could do if you wanted.

Instead, you spend only a couple of extra minutes, luxuriating in the warmth and the feeling of the water droplets dancing across your skin. The feel of water on your skin doesn't normally feel this amazing, but even if you wanted to focus on it, you're going to have to get out of the shower eventually. There is a whole day that you need to face down after all.

The only negative however, is that even once you've finished with your shower and get dressed for the day, you still ache. Groaning softly once again as you stretch towards the skies, you realize that you're just going to have to ignore it. The pain sucks, sure, but what are you going to do? Skip school?

Unlikely. Checking the cabinet, you quickly swallow down a pair of ibuprofen for the pain, and make your way down the stairs. Reaching the kitchen, you blink. Dad is sitting there at the kitchen table, idly reading the newspaper with one hand while he works on his plate of breakfast with the other.

That's… Honestly, it's a little weird. Most days Dad is out of the house by the time that you get done with your shower. Today you're not only getting up a little late, but you spent extra time in the shower as well. Dad should be gone by now.

"Morning." Dad says, giving you a nod as you enter the kitchen. "Your plate's in the microwave." He says, motioning with his head.

"Morning." You respond in kind. "Are… Is everything okay?" You ask. "You're normally out the door by now."

Dad is…

Dad is tall and thin, wearing glasses just the same as you do. He used to smile a lot, always with a witty joke or an insightful comment, but ever since Mom died he just hasn't been the same. The two of you don't talk nearly as much as you used to, and in a lot of ways Dad seems to have been reduced to a shadow of himself.

Dad shrugs from where he's sitting. "I've got a meeting with the Mayor at 10, and then I need to head down to the southern end of the city to order a new delivery of some forklifts." A moment of silence. "Honestly, it'd be more trouble and gas than it's worth to drive all the way up to the office, and then down to downtown."

You aren't entirely sure what to think about that, but you also aren't sure what else you might be able to talk about. There is a short moment of stuttering silence, before something clicks in your head. "A meeting with the mayor? Is this about the ferry again?"

The sigh that your father gives at that says more than words ever could. "No. The mayor is wanting to save money by hiring the DWU to fill in some potholes, rather than pay contractors to do it. And like always, he's trying to weasel the price down. I don't know why he bothers. We're Union, and that means that we have a flat bottom rate. So I'm going to be in his office for an hour and a half, arguing over something that has already had the outcome decided. It's a waste of my time, and a waste of his time, but I'm the one that has to do this every time." He sounds utterly exhausted saying that… Then he glances up at the clock.

"You know what…" He says after a moment. "I'm stuck having to waste my time all day today. It's the last day of school before the winter break. The last day of the semester. Other than like, Math, I can't imagine that any of your teachers are going to be giving out homework." He's not wrong. "Or, in other words, you're going to be wasting just as much time as I am going to school today." Also not wrong.

"I… I mean, yeah?" You agree, trying to figure out where your father was going with this.

"There's no real reason for the both of us to be wasting our time today. So if you want to, I'd be willing to look the other way if you want to skip school today."

There is a distinct moment where you aren't sure if you just heard your father right. He couldn't really be saying what it sounds like he's saying, right?

If Mom were here… Well, if Mom were here a lot of things would be a lot different than they are now. But the important thing is that if Mom were here, she'd never let you skip school unless you were sick. Then again, you do ache all over.

"And, on that note." Dad continues, pulling his wallet out. "Merry Christmas. I know it's not much, but we both know that you're going to buy books." Danny says with a smile as he hands you a pair of hundred dollar bills. "I haven't kept up with the best sellers list this year, and I'm not sure which ones you've already gotten."

NOTICE
Gained $200

Taking the cash, you lean forwards and give your dad a hug. "Thanks…" You say softly, thinking about what you are planning to do for the day.

[ ][Day] School
- Sure, it sucks going to school, but there is a chance that your Maths teacher might give you homework. More than that however, the fact is that Emma and the others seem to have pretty much forgotten about you over the last three-ish months, and missing school might be the kind of thing that draws their attention back to you again.
-- …You get any homework that's due over the break? You have a chance to interact with people. You get to see whatever cute clothes that Emma decides to wear to show off to everyone. Chance to increase Learning
[ ][Day] Go shopping
- Dad says that you don't have to go to school today, and you do have $200 to spend, and there are plenty of bookshops and other shops along the boardwalk.
-- Chance to check out some shops for stuff to buy, chance to Overcome Depression Trait, Chance to encounter ???, Chance to encounter ???, Chance to increase Random Trait
[ ][Day] Stay home and sleep
- You ache all over, deep as your bones and across every inch of yourself. Plus, you're really cold. And your chest feels very odd. Honestly, you just want to pile on as many blankets on top of yourself as you can and vege out in front of the TV. Watch some movies, maybe take a nap.
-- Develop your first Avataric Adaptation, Chance to overcome Depression Trait, sleep and move onto the next day. Chance to Dream.

Taylor has become connected to being that inherently exists beyond the three dimensions that consist of ordinary space, acting as a mortal tie and voice. The official term would be Shobijin. A priestess of sorts for a creature more massive than humans can understand. Because of this connection, Taylor is going to begin developing three minor, two moderate, and two major mutations connected to the particular aspect of her Titan. The pictures connected show a general look of how Taylor will look once she develops her entire repertoire of Avataric Adaptations. Each adaptation gives an ability, some small, some larger. Further, as Taylor becomes more in sync with her titan, she will gain increased stat boosts.

1. Going to Winslo-Kek No.

2. Going shopping could lead to some fun encounters which may help Taylor get wrapped in plot sooner and mentally healthier.

3. Dream Exposition could be very helpful, especially for context on what's happening to Taylor IC.

1. Choosing Taylor Herbert to become the Avatar of Despair is rather terrible, in my opinion at least. Especially considering the amount of collateral damage even the most benevolent of Kaiju can cause. The option spun of Shin Godzilla is definitely high on that.

2. Becoming the Avatar of Nature is a safer bet, however, it deals with the issue that well, it could very well put Taylor at odds with humanity, a lot of the tech and civilization they can bring to bear as time goes on could be a point of conflict.

3. Avatar of Evolution is a wild card I think, in that it can either lead to a positive or negative path, depending on how Taylor takes it.

Hrm...I think Evolution is where I'll be voting. That would put Taylor at...

So it bumps up the stats we had Taylor start out decent at and is the least troublesome on the surface.

I'm happy with either of these, simply because they'll be easiest to hide until we're ready to really start ramping up.

Honestly I only dislike the Evolution Avatar.

Despair and Nature are both cool, but I am hesitant to go down the path of Shin Godzilla of all things.

Nature is under assault, the world is burning. Humans like it or not still have a place in Nature, plus that ability is super cool! Taylor will never be able to be ambushed again! Plus it leans pretty close to electricity, and we all know Sophia hates that.

We should do some Christmas shopping(gifts are good for depression and relationships/and it is what Danny Hughes wants), get out of the house, have some fun, meet a cute boy, something!

Snaps Finger. Figured out what the loops around the wrists are meant to be, there spun off one of the breath attacks.

Evolution! Taylor will be getting wrist mounted energy rings to blast. Unironically epic.

It really does feel like a Taylor on this path is the most likely to co-exist and make use of both Kaiju and Human Sides of who she is, especially with her first trait already hinting toward a mind that's augmented to be faster.

The Godzilla of Evolution will likely be the smartest of the three options compared to Nature and Despair for...better or worse.

It just seems a bit ...dull? For a Kaiju Quest anyway. It screams too much like magical girl to me, and we have a Quest for that already XP.
This is a monster mash!

Besides she's still recognizably human in all the Avatars, this choice isn't about whether or not Taylor is going to go live in a sea cave or an apartment. So long as she makes human connections she'll be fine.

Shin, Singular Point, or Monsterverse huh? Call me paranoid, but there's probably more to choosing which to be an Avatar of than stats and skill trees. In which case, all three have varying degrees of drawbacks and benefits.

Shin Godzilla is the Most Frightening. It's a reprise of the despair of the atomic bomb, a living, breathing monument to sin. It lives in a state of constant pain, lashing out in confusion and anger at a world that hurt it. It can mutate adaptations to anything throwing itself against it, even the environment, but pays for that by suffering the realistic pain such mutations bring on. It's dangerous, it's horrifying, and it's nigh useless to try and stop. But it lives a hellish existence in exchange.

Singular Point Godzilla is the Most Powerful. Rather than a dinosaur or a lizard or a sea creature, SP is more like a living glitch in reality. It is constantly evolving, growing more powerful all the time simply by dint of existence. The world warps around it to accommodate its ever-expanding existence, which is really bad for the surrounding environment and the fragile humans and creature who inhabit it. Rather than radiation, space-time just breaks down in unpredictable yet lethal ways. Still, not even death will keep it down forever.

Monsterverse Godzilla is the Most Skilled. An ancient creature presiding over the world's ecosystem as an apex lifeform, he has legitimate claim to the title "King of the Monsters". He doesn't have the outstanding, exponential power the former two incarnations have, but the power he does have is honed through centuries of experience as the equalizer of nature. He's likewise a far more agreeable existence, for all that he's still far too big to move safely around human cities.

Might as well see what the baseline is. And I love redemption stories more than anything. Time to see how bad the start is and if anyone is worth trying to salvage.

As long as we get more Alapu Upala, I'm totally down for Singular Point Goji. Plus SP Goji's reality bending powers will give us a big leg up against Zion or the Endbringers.
Remember that for SP Jet Jaguar to beat SP Goji, the Jaguar squad had to employ time travel shenanigans to give the second timeline enough leg-up to get their JJ's Singular Point form researched in time to beat SP Goji before it was too late.

Now, I am going to include some aspects of each of these individual versions of Godzilla, it is not any singular one of them.

Well just in general there's Greg Veder, Sparky, Charlotte, and for actual redemption Madison Clements.

Greg is oblivious and cowardly more than anything. The resident Void Cowboy. Conspiracy theorist and motor mouth. No filter. Secrets may not be the best thing to tell him.

Sparky... exists? Probably Merchant ties in that one, but there was one fic that painted him as a tired overworked kid everyone just assumes is on drugs.

Charlotte just meek and pacifistic I believe. She joins Taylor to look after children in canon.

Madison canonically does reach redemption. The only of the trio to learn from her mistakes. She becomes a teacher to help kids and prevent bullying. Also the least awful of the 3 girls.
