Amazon's Invincible - " Earth isn't yours to conquer."

mainly kept thinking "see, this is why you shouldn't have dropped out of college Mark, you can't string arguments or make a concrete ideological stance clear for shit".
Mark dropped out because he couldn't balance being a superhero with being a student, from memory. Certainly it would've worked better if he just didn't do superhero stuff for a few years after getting his powers, but then we wouldn't get juicy drama and story conflicts over the entire situation.

It's admittedly rare to see people with powers who don't go around punching villains.

There's a debate going on as subtext to the story events? I didn't pick that up at all.

I get the impression they're saving their budget this season for the Invincible War. Judging, at least, by the way the title cards keep shifting colors.
That's no excuse for bad production values. I'm not watching this show because of the ultraviolence, I'm watching it because everybody else is. So I would be a lot happier if things that weren't ultraviolence looked and sounded better.

I'm fine with the animation quality. I'm sure there's some crunch going on in every animated show these days, but as long as it's not awful, I would rather not throw Invincible's animators into MAPPA hell.

So yeah, anyway, the season is going strong! I've spoiled myself on Invincible ages ago, yes I need to read the comics, but so far I'm pretty happy with what they've expanded. In episode 4, I like the little scene between Ray and Rex shopping for groceries.

Why? You should watch the show because you enjoy it. I for one am here for the extremely strong character writing.

See, I think its a potential explanation. Not an excuse. And if you don't like the times the show gets really violent well, fair enough. Can't say its for everyone. What I can say is the violence is only going to get bloodier from here on. So if that's not your cup of tea...

I'm not too happy with some of the animation quality either, but it doesn't detract all that much from the show for me.

I've certainly liked this season better than the second. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how things play out. I agree, that scene with Ray and Rex was a nice touch. Or that intro to season three, with...well, I forgot their names, but the criminal couple.

On social media, Twitter especially. It's hot takes as far as the eye can see.

Oh I know. And he was always a poor student even in high school. I'm making fun of him because his arguments were mostly emotional and easily picked apart, this wouldn't have happened had he taken a class in philosophy :V

I haven't noticed any issues at all with animation quality, personally. Kinda confused about what some folk are disgruntled by tbh.

I mean, Tech Jacket hasn't showed up yet, so I doubt they will. And Tech Jacket was made by Kirkman.

It would be cool to see Spawn duking it out in the show but I doubt he or anyone else are coming.

Tech Jacket is a Blue Beetle Expy, right? I don't really know much about comics invincible. Why wouldn't he or any others show up?

Both of the characters involve an ordinary kid who stumbles upon an alien artifact that gives them superpowered armor.

Tech Jacket is an Image original hero who had his own series that was released in 2003. This makes him predate the modern take on the Blue Beetle which was released in 2006. The character of the Blue Beetle has a record going back to 1939 but the alien artifact / superpowered armor was only introduced with the modern take.

So who was Kirkman cloning Tech Jacket from, then? Iron Man?

There is an obvious connection to Iron Man through the shared armor, but the protagonist's young age, their stumbling upon it as an alien artifact, and the overarching plot of an alien space war make it a very different story.

I am not sure if there is a case of direct inspiration or "cloning". The closest piece of fiction that comes to mind as a predecessor would be Heinlein's "Have Spacesuit Will Travel" and that is a very flimsy inspiration. Spider-Man or other young superheroes who undergo a coming-of-age story as part of their heroic journey likely provided some inspiration but I can't think of any pre-2003 superheroes with a similar powerset and alien origin.

Spiderman's an inspirational template for young supers across the comics medium and beyond, but I do think the Heinlein inspiration might actually be relevant depending on whether Kirkman read Marvel cosmic stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy.

I liked that Mark is learning not to jump into hero stuff just because some rando popped up and says he's the only one who can help. The future fight guys were such knuckleheads. I also liked to see Mark's introspection. How weird do things get in the future that he takes off and just arbitrarily leaves any one person in charge of the whole planet?

It's interesting seeing Cecil and Mark starting out as polar opposites and poor Mark seeing his idealism gradually get chipped away.

Episode 5:

Paul what the fuck.
I was definitely not expecting his jailbreak attempt to be... Like that. Very ick.

I've been enjoying the new Rex, where he's bonding with his team and getting along well. Really turned over a new leaf after the events of season four, it feels like. The little alien brother of Mark's is impressing me too, with how he isn't using his powers for violence. Barring the Mauler twins.

TL;DR: It's about Mark's and Cecil's Points Of View and phiosophies after Cecil had the Reanimen and Darkwing II rescue everyone from Dr. Seismic.

Invincible argues that Sinclair and Darkwing II should've never been redeemed, much less recruited behind everyone's backs, while Cecil argues that they are being given a second chance albeit with a very tight leash. Invincible says they're murderers, Cecil counters Mark is one too, even if the circumstances were sympathetic if not outright justified. But Cecil has the dishonor of also mocking Mark's decision to go help his dad on Thraxxa which is just salt rather than making a point.

Basically a black-and-white vs grey-and-grey, emotions vs cold logic debate. The show doesn't pick a side, with Invincible and Cecil having both good points and terrible actions on their sides. But it doesn't stop people from delivering scathing hot takes for one side or the other. On YouTube, a lot side with Cecil; I have no idea if there are any pro-Invincible spaces.
