  • [X] Charge home into the ranks of the ambushing mortal warriors, there are but a few of you, but they have never faced an armored charge
-[X] Esha activates her Twilight Barrier as a Swift Action then casts Mage Armor on herself. She casts Shield using her staff if she has time before the mortal enemies are in range. Once the mortal enemies make an appearance, she targets them with Sleep spells to disrupt their formation or charge, or merely to sow confusion.
-[X] Zaia quickly targets the Undead giant with a Tanglefoot Firebomb before it can enter combat, then drinks his Mutagen (+4 CON, +2 Natural Armor, -2 CHA). If he has time, he also drinks a Shield extract before engaging in further combat, but prioritizes targeting the mortal enemies with a Tanglefoot Firebomb before our forces clash with them, if possible.
-[X] Inge casts Mage Armor, then waits for an opportunity to strike, targeting the Dahzagan with a Web spell when it gets close enough to the ground (or other suitable anchor point) to be snared without also risking trapping allies in the effect (it needs to be within 40ft of the ground or a tree so that the spell effect will have necessary anchors). She targets it before casting her Mage Armor spell if the positioning is suitable.
-[X] Leave the Net-men ready to hinder the flying monster if it comes close enough, but they should not try to get into melee with it. If Inge managed to share it in a Web, they will use their nets to further hinder it before it has a chance to free itself.

Arc 12 Post 37: Surge and Snare
Surge and Snare

Third Day of Elnu-Hamba (Elnu Descendent), 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

Of the courage of men in battle much is said, but no less aught be told of the courage of horses that with the reek of death in their nostrils and the sounds of battle ringing in their ears circle about the foeman

"For Korman!" some shout and then "For Obari!" They curse those who had come as invaders on their shores and they curse Negu who gave them aid, but of you and your company they know not.

As fire lights in Moru's hand in the guise of a blade and his brother drawn his own weapon with a prayer and a proclamation of his righteous cause you charge in, Durendal a dreadful weight in your hand, parting bronze and leather flesh and bone with hiss of deadly flame. An arm flies off the shoulder of one man another falls with a stroke to the neck that bathes Silver's right side, leg stirrup and all in red blood.

The enemy quakes at the sudden death, but they do not break. Perhaps you aught to have bid Mark and George into the attack as well to carry the blow, you think as Pete's horse takes the first blow of the day from an axman swinging with a wild fury which only good fortune makes a flesh wound in the flank and not a crippling wound to the leg. Others see their armor shed blows or else manage to stay out of reach of answering blows delivered with more of wrath than skill

Pete's Horse takes 11 Damage

Out of the corner yo your eye you see Zaia get out from the mass of the Fellowship a clay jar gripped tightly in hand aimed not at the enemy but at the giant still far out of reach... or so it had been at least. With a roar like a storm surge ghostly waves pick up the waterlogged corpses and bear it forth like a battering ram upon Negu and his guard, seeking to cut the very heart from your lines.

The scholar holds his ground, the weapon flies and from ropes of burning tar spill out over the thing's legs. Alas the cold cloying mud proves the stronger and the beast is no them tearing though the ranks with its fists and trampling with its all before i t with roars as much of agony as anger.

As you raise your sword in challenge ready to charge in behind the horror a fetid thing falls on you, neither man no beast nor bird, but fouler by far, filthy claws tear into your back and neck where the armor does not reach and it is only silver's sure footnotes that keeps you ahorse. You feel more than see the thing being yanked sideways with a sudden screech... and there is George Miller, a fellow otherwise more well known for griping than fighting having pulled the monster off you and onto the killing ground

You take 9 Damage

What do you do?

[] Attack the giant, if Negu and the center falls the battle becomes a rout

[] Keep smashing into the enemy from the side, you can still roll them up on the flank and carry the day that way

[] Attack the flying monster while it is in reach

OOC: More than a bit short, but that is the nature of combat updates, especially when there are a lot of moving parts.

Well, I had hoped we'd have at least one more round to kill warriors before the giant comes, but shit happens, got to deal with it now.

We have to fight the giant, otherwise the Dr/Magic is too tough for our allies.

I'm torn between attacking the Giant and continuing to deal with the Human enemies. The Dahzagan is just out of the question. Even if we Charge and hit it with a power attack, short of a Crit were only going to do a few points of damage due to its DR and fire immunity. We'll have to leave that to others for now, like Ziku.

The Giant is a dangerous enemy, but DR 5 isn't too terrible to deal with and Undead generally have less HP than regular creatures, even in Pathfinder. It's size and other abilities make it difficult for regular people to fight effectively, though. At the same time, we're having a disproportionate effect on the Human enemies, which is important, because there are a lot of them and we don't want them to gain momentum against our forces.

I'd suggest we go for the giant (Zaia helps) and leave our men fughting humans under Tom's command.

Meanwhile I hope Ziku attacks the outsider and Moru the undead.

Didn't you tell us Moru's known spells a while back, @DragonParadox? I can't recall most of them, but I'm pretty sure he had Bless and Flame Blade?

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

Here's what I've got so far. Thoughts, @Artemis? I can see Moru wanting to help his brother against the Dahzagan, but that thing is immune to fire damage, which pretty much makes Moru useless against it.

[X] A not so jolly giant...
-[X] If he hasn't already, Moru casts Bless, granting everyone within 50 feet a +1 Morale bonus on attack rolls and rolls to resist Fear effects. If he has already cast Bless, he moves to assist against whichever threat seems most pressing from his position, either against the Human enemies or the Undead Giant.
-[X] Roland and Silver Charge the Undead Giant. He uses Challenge against it as a Swift Action and Power Attacks (+10; 1d8+11+1d6; Crit 17-20/x2), and Silver Power Attacks with a hoof attack (+9; 1d6+9).
-[X] Tom takes over leading the men in Roland's absence, using Coordinated Maneuvers as a Standard Action if he deems it helpful to aid the men.
-[X] Zaia drinks a Targeted Bomb Admixture (removes bomb splash effect but increases damage to 2d6+10) then targets the Undead Giant with a Tanglefoot Firebomb. If it has somehow already been slain, he instead targets a nearby Human enemy who looks more formidable than most of his fellows.
-[X] Ziku Charges the Dahzagan, using Smite Evil against it.
-[X] If she can see a good grouping of targets that won't ensnare her allies, Inge casts a Web spell against the Human enemies. If not, she will find a good target within range of a Snowball spell, such as the Dahzagan. If she casts a Snowball spell, she first uses her Guiding Spirit ability in order to roll twice on the ranged attack.
-[X] Esha either targets Human enemies with a Sleep spell, if she can do so without potentially affecting allies, or uses a Blindness/Deafness spell against whoever seems to be leading the Humans against us, if one is ready apparent.

I would prioritize the giant.
Flame Blade uses touch-attacks, which is good against a giant, but due to an Oracle's bad AB not so great against humans.

If she does go for the Dahzagan, she might want to use her leyline surge to up the CL a bit, otherwise that SR looks a bit high.

Aside from that the plan looks good to me.

The Giant might be getting enough attention already, while there are a lot of Human enemies and with Roland focusing on the Giant our forces lose a powerful combatant against them for the time being. I'm not sure if Moru could get there in time to make a meaningful contribution against the Giant, when everything else is taken into consideration.

Inge's Snowball spell doesn't allow Spell Resistance, so caster level isn't an issue. It might also Stagger the Dahzagan on top of inflicting 4d6 damage, which would make Ziku's job much easier.

Also I think that Hugh the Younger should keep as far as he can from Giant, his drowning attacks are especially dangerous for him.

There is noo way Floodslain creature is just a +1 CR template

Drowning Touch (Su)

The slam attack of a floodslain creature partially fills a living victim's lungs with water. The victim must succeed at a Fortitude saving throw in order to cough up this water or become fatigued for 1d4 rounds. A fatigued creature that fails this save becomes exhausted instead. An exhausted creature that fails this save is staggered and falls to 0 hp. A creature at 0 hp that fails this save drops to –1 hp and begins dying. A creature killed in this fashion appears to have drowned.

This literally renders any physical fighter useless in two strikes.

You make a Fort-save, or you get a minor debuff.

Second hit, you make a Fort-save or you get a major debuff.

Third hit, you make a Fort-save or you are out.

That still requires 3 hits from a creature that can likely only make one per round, it actually has to hit you against AC and you can resist it.
So if you are a Fighter with decent CON and naturally high Fortitude saves, you can hold out several rounds against it, which is forever in a fight, or if you are a mook you are more likely to die due to the fact that a giant is hitting you than from secondary effects.

The ability is not bad, but far from broken.
It would be broken if it could be used through all natural attacks and then you had something like a dragon with a shitload of those as base for the template, but that is not the case.

Keep in mind what I put it on and what that being is fighting. A giant fighting level 2-3 warriors does not really need to drown them, just hitting them with the multiple attacks has good chances to knocking them up and/or killing them . It is only really relevant against PCs and those have decent fort saves
