Against the Legion(WoW: Legion)

[X] Kor'vas employs percussive maintenance to Kayn's head, as he must be broken if he's considering Gul'dan's words, especially with Illidan right there! Kor'vas' critical success cancels out Kayn's critical failure and both are treated as though they had a standard pass.
[X] Attempt to finish off Gul'dan and his forces without collapsing the center of the platform. Carries a bit of risk, but if successful would mean that you could be certain Gul'dan is finished off. Illidan would join in at this point.

Yeah.... I might not like Kayn, but killing him still seems questionable.

[X] Kor'vas shows what mercy one can to an Illidari who is fallen, and ends Kayn quickly. Kor'vas' critical success is used to kill Kayn outright. Prevents Kayn from joining Gul'dan's forces as an enemy.

As a reader I'd like to point out there's likely more consequences to this crit failure.
While Kayn can be knocked out right now and potentially redeemed after what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-you speech, his willingness to consider our most unlucky warlock's words might result in
1. Dead Kayn, this will be more possible if MC failed to redeem him.
2. Saria and Wardens re-imprisoning Kayn again.
3. Even if redeemed will still can't be trusted.

If he could stay dead I would vote for killing him but he won't.

He won't stay dead right away, that is true. But there would be options for such later on.

This is not a case of killing him being pointless. It's a case of killing him being a stopgap measure to get him out of the way so you can focus on the fight, and decide what should be done with him, be it permenant death redemption or leaving him to his fate, later.

I did not mean to imply killing him is pointless.

he is still going to reform in the twisted nether and we can't keep his soul for us to kill off later on so still pointless.

Like I said, wasn't my intent to make you feel it was pointless. The idea was that you choose between him being 'fixed' and available for the fight, though there would likely be reprecussions one way or another after, him being killed and taken out of the fight, until you could arrange something more permanent later, when you don't have Gul'dan sitting right there, or that nothing happens, Kor'vas improves, but Kayn joins Gul'dan's side.

Or that you write-in some other course of action.

Ultimately, my fault for not communicating everything clearly(and assuming people are as conversant with the lore as I am, at least re: Demon Hunters). Voting to kill him, or simply whack him over the head... Either way I'll include a vote after the fighting is done on how you want to handle his... Slip outside of the immediate solution. Though, fair warning, voting to permanently kill him after his brain was rebooted via the subtle application of boot to the face might be seen by others as a bit extreme, considering that it means he would continue to fight beside you against Gul'dan.

Anyway! Voting will close in about an hour and I'll work on an update.

A scuffle draws your attention away from Gul'dan's place at the crystal. A flash of steel as Kor'vas swings one of her hands, still holding her glaive, at Kayn's head. Though she doesn't strike with the edge, instead slamming the flat of the blade against the side of his head. Her other hand lashes out then, gripping him by the neck, her other glaive dropping to the ground as she does, and lifting him so that his face is even with hers, his feet off the floor due to the difference in height.

"I know you weren't about to give in due to his words," Kor'vas' voice comes out in a hiss when she speaks to Kayn. "I know you weren't considering betraying us. Because if you were I would feel compelled to cut your skull out, tear you essence from your corpse and stuff it into your skull, and add it to my collection to torment whenever I pleased. Do you want to be added to my collection?"

Kayn lets out a wheezing noise that, if one were feeling generous, could be considered a no. You do not blame him, really. You have seen the skull collection. It is disturbing. Also vast. Which might explain some of why it is disturbing. Kor'vas' arm extends, chucking Kayn away from her, causing him to roll on the ground before weakly pushing himself back to his feet. Rubbing his neck he mutters in a rough voice, "Always so rough..."

"Be silent," you command as you move between him and Kor'vas, walking to the forefront of the battle lines. "We will be discussing your... Lapse in length when we haven't more pressing matters to attend to. For now you fight. And you had better fight well, lest questions are asked."

You contemplate for a moment dropping the platform section with Gul'dan on it, sending him down into the abyss. But that thought is dismissed, as it will serve as more of a last resort, a final effort to take out the warlock if he tries to escape. It would be better to see him dead, to see his corpse and to confirm that he is dead. And so the battle is rejoined.

Kayn darts toward Cordana, Kor'vas on his heels, obviously not planning to let him stray too far away, lest temptation set in again.

The two of them manage to reach the fallen Warden at the same time. Kayn's glaives ring as they clash against Cordana's armor, but the strong metal manages to turn them aside. Kor'vas has no such issues, her glaives cleaving through the armor and the flesh beneath. With a cry that is a mixture of pain and rage Cordana lashes out in response, her circular weapon flashing through the air to strike Kayn, sending his blood flying, then circling back to slice into him again on the return swing.

Both Illidari attack again, this time both their strikes hitting true and sending the Warden stumbling back, clutching at her side. Frustrated the woman calls out, "Damn you! When next we meet I will make you pay in blood for this pain!" Then her glaive is swinging behind her, cutting through the protections on the Vault to tear a portal open. Though both Kayn and Kor'vas attempt to stop her she manages to half walk, half stumble back, escaping the battle.

The Illidari and Wardens have decided to fight together to take out the demons that Gul'dan summoned in, and they do so with a devastating effectiveness. Though perhaps not something too surprising, considering that it is eighteen against eight. Their first pass manages to take out the dreadlords and infernals, as well as a couple of the felguards. A powerful and devastating strike. The remaining two felguards attempt to fight back, one aiming for the Wardens, though they dodge and deflect the strike to one side. The other aims for the Illidari, who simply aren't where the felguard was aiming. But the distraction buys enough time for the other two groups of Illidari to move around to strike both felguards down.

You, Altruis and Saria are moving toward Gul'dan, but he seems to have sensed how the battle is going for his forces as he lets out a snarl and grumbles, "Very well, I will kill you all myself."

When he turns, his hand is lifting, and shadow-tinged tendrils lash out.

The shadowy tendrils lash out and latch on to various members of your group. Yourself, Kor'vas, Altruis, Saria, and Kayn are all targeted. As the shadowy tendrils are maintained you can feel them sapping your strength, weakening you, while at the same time they seem to be reinvigorating Gul'dan, his wounds visibly healing before your eyes, until he stands there looking as healthy as he did when he walked in.

At that point he releases the tendrils and snarls, "Face the might of Stormreaver!" Orbs of darkness begin to coalesce above his palm as the warlock prepares to unlease a barrage of the shadow infused bolts that warlocks are known for.

Before he can, however, a large form crashes into him from above, sending the warlock staggering back. And your eyes flicking toward the platform. Though, fortunately, it doesn't collapse right then. The large form of Illidan slowly moves to stand up in front of Gul'dan, a wicked grin spreading across his features. The orc, for his part looks shocked, his eyes darting from Illidan to the crystal that supposedly contains him and back, before realization seems to dawn on him and he turns to face the first demon hunter with a snarl. "You..."

Before he can say anything else, Illidan is moving again, his body a blur. He darts past Gul'dan, the only sign of his passing a cut parting cloth and flesh on the Warlock's chest. This is soon followed by another movement, then another, bringing Illidan back to standing before you all, borrowed glaives gripped tightly in his hands.

Result: 3. Gul'dan is knocked out. This... Really, really isn't his day.

Having recovered enough strength to go back on the offensive, you, Altruis and Saria all dart in at the same time. While you and Altruis, having both been trained by Illidan at some point, can work well together, and predict certain movements and actions, Saria doesn't have that advantage, so when she finds the angle of attack she was going to take being blocked by Altruis' lunge, she ends up having to back off. You and Altruis both manage to connect, however, glaives biting into Gul'dan and staining his robe with fresh blood.

Once again he lifts his staff with a cry of, "Enough!" A slash of his staff through the air tears open another rent in reality, another portal to one of the Legion's bases. Though this one is smaller, likely not intended for bringing a fighting force thorugh. "I am done wasting my time with you worms! You may consider this battle won, but the war is already ours! The pathetic human king is dead, and the leader of the traitorous horde will soon follow! And so, while those of Azeroth scrabble in the dirt, panicked due to the lost of their leaders, we shall come..."

As he rants, the orc is backing toward the portal he tore open in the air, with your forces starting to advance on him as he goes. At least until you hear a voice cry out from behind, "Stop!"

A glance back shows it to be the Warden who freed you from your cell. Gul'dan seems to have noticed as well as a vicious grin spreads across his features. "Ah, Maive. Still as incompetent as ever. Freeing prisoners, who then release you prize catch." One of his hands waves toward Illidan as he says this, leaving no confusion as to what he means. "Your fortress raided, and now me, escaping from under your nose. How that must burn." With a harsh laugh he turns to jump through the portal, only to freeze when he turns around.

Why is readily apparent, as the portal looks rather unstable, fel-energies crackling along the edge of it, with the outline wavering, seemingly unable to hold a consistent shape. And a look through it doesn't reveal a camp, or really any location beyond a vast nothingness. But any glances would need to be quick, as before Gul'dan could even say whatever he opened his mouth to do so upon seeing that, the portal is closing, with a violent blast of energy. It is strong enough that you all stumble back, and you instinctively raise an arm to shield your eyes, despite the cloth covering where they were making that a moot point.

Gul'dan gets the worst of it, however, being lifted from the ground and blown back, all the way across the platform. And when he lands, it is not a gentle landing, being head first and with a solid crack of his skull against stone. Then he lies there, still, as his blood pools around his head. One of the Illidari moves over toward him, nudging him with a toe before leaning down to see if he still breaths.

"He yet lives, just unconscious." The demon hunter lifts his blades after saying this and asks, "Should I fix that?"

Gul'dan defeated, Vault secure. All that's left is the clean up. +2 Character Points.

Character Points are your advancement system. I... Forgot the thumbdrive with my full list of purchasable traits and all at home, so any vote on spending them is going to have to wait. But generally you can use them to buy health(1 CP for 10HP), traits(at a variable cost), offensive power(2 CP to raise your base offense by +1), or defensive power(2 CP to raise your base defense by +1).

Current base of operations: Vault of the Wardens. Current resources: 100
Current troop division: 6 scouts, 6 combat, 6 utility
Base defense: 10(was 12 before assault)
Base mobility: 0(It's immobile)
Base housing: 18/36
Base special: Prison of the Wardens. There are a variety of beasts secured in this prison that can be used for combat practice. Though they ask you not kill any of the demons, as that would simply free them into the Twisting Nether. Combat troop training costs reduced to 25. Can capture foes with no risk of not having room to imprison them.

Gul'dan's fate, choose one:

[ ] Kill him. Nobody has any complaints about this option. Gul'dan is dangerous, even bound without his magic, his tongue has been known to twists others.
[ ] Imprison him. Oddly enough, nobody has any complaints about this option either. Yes, he is a danger, even without his considerable powers at his command. But the information you could get from interrogation would be quite valuable in the coming campaign.

Handling Kayn:
[ ] Kayn nearly gave in to temptation there. Would have if it were not for Kor'vas. You and Illidan go to have words with him, which would result in him being stripped of any command positions, and requiring a minder until he could be trusted again. Which may never happen.
[ ] He nearly gave in. Imprison him. He is too large a liability, and you are in a large prison. Could lead to rehabilitation.
[ ] He nearly gave in. The risk of it happening again is too great. End him.

Stal'rem's personal actions, choose 3, can choose a single option more than once:

[ ] Socialize
-[ ] Illidan
-[ ] Kayn(if he isn't killed)
-[ ] Kor'vas
-[ ] Saria
-[ ] Altruis
[ ] You need better weapons. Get to work on that.
[ ] The Vault is in rough shape after the assault. Oversee repairs.
[ ] Train(DC 12 to make progress on gaining a CP. 5 successes total required to gain one at current level, critical successes count as 2 successes)

[ ] Scout for resources, which can be used to train more troops if you have trainers, to gain materials needed for special projects, and so on.
[ ] Scout for people or items of interest. Grants a chance of discovering the location of a potential recruit or trainer, or a powerful item to aid you.
[ ] Scout a location for another potential base.
[ ] Train more scouts: 50 resources to train 3 more scouts. 6 more scouts required to gain another scouting action.

[X] Imprison him. Oddly enough, nobody has any complaints about this option either. Yes, he is a danger, even without his considerable powers at his command. But the information you could get from interrogation would be quite valuable in the coming campaign.
[X] Kayn nearly gave in to temptation there. Would have if it were not for Kor'vas. You and Illidan go to have words with him, which would result in him being stripped of any command positions, and requiring a minder until he could be trusted again. Which may never happen.

This is just not his day huh? His intel is worth more than his power, even if he escapes later.

[X] Kill him. Nobody has any complaints about this option. Gul'dan is dangerous, even bound without his magic, his tongue has been known to twists others.

I'm going to be abstaining on voting what to do with Gul'dan for now. While I do see worth in interrogating him, all it takes is a Manipulation roll that goes well and we would have major problems, so it is risky keeping him alive...

EDIT: It's better to kill Gul'dan than imprison him, as he's a time bomb due to his manipulation skills.

Is Gul'dan like the Illidari? I mean does his soul stay in the nether after he dies or he just plain dies?

And another awesome chapter! My only thing is....

Is this supposed to be "Maiev?"

I'll decide my vote on Gul'dan in a bit.

When you have a high skill in charisma theres alot of open doors and enemies are just soon to be allies with the right words to dangerous i say.

we need to train and get stronger, plus better weapons and repair work on the vault will be useful going forward.

Scouting:
[X] Scout for resources, which can be used to train more troops if you have trainers, to gain materials needed for special projects, and so on.
more resources is always a good thing.

Combat:
[X] Secure another base. Scouting locations may grant access to more.
-[X] The Fel Hammer
we lack housing for more troops atm. and I believe this is the cannon demon hunter base plus this gives us access to our old troops for low cost.

Utility:
[X] Train more utility troops. Diplomats, craftsmen, workers. 50 resources to train 3 more utility troops. 6 more utility troops required to gain another utility action.
more troops is a good thing and we will need lots of these.

[X] Saria approaches you about the Wardens and Maive.
I would rather get Maive over with before she decides to kick us out.
