Some Psi spent, sure. But we need to scope out what the hell is going on before we start getting the shit shot out of us and these two as our squad would be perfect for the recon and stealth aspect. We ourselves are the heavy artillery. (Also, don't tell Vadim, but if the story demands a redshirt like the game did-)

@DragonCobolt
Will the mech be coming with us? Should we always assume the mech is coming with us? And how can she affect the mako? Is that biological too? How is it different from canon? Have you given any thoughts to the Codex Blurbs I asked about making?

hey i get your enthusiasm but many of these questions can be answered by a little bit of reading

But to sum it up:
one, we're voting on taking the VARG right now,
two, there is a trade off in having to tie up some of our power in letting it come with us in a man portable fashion,
three yes it is biotech, that was locked in when we decided we were a biokinetic.
Four I'll admit, I don't know, and I'm finding, personally, I don't care? I'm having fun anyway, and that's the important part.

Five, maybe he will maybe he won't, but that depends on how much work he, as one person, wants to do on something he's doing purely for fun? Personally, I wouldn't be inclined to do something someone kept pestering me to do it, but that's just me.

Yes it's noted in the character sheet, pinned at the top.

But I have soooooooooo many questions!

That was not previously established.
the Mako is the mech.
How does that work for passengers?

But I have soooooooooo many questions!

And a bunch of them will be answered, in the quest, as part of the story.

Like...

I'm a professional author who has been writing and publishing novels for six years, and I've been a GM for approximately 20? I kinda know how to put setting details into the universe in a way that's at least somewhat understandable. Besides, the mystery of how and why things will work out are why you keep coming back!

Wait.... Isn't this already open battle? Is there any point to playing shell games at this phase?
About as much as original canon. Need to get to the objective as quickly as possible without drawing every gun our way. So either just 3 people like before. Or Mako and never let the pedal off the metal. In which case we should take more than 3.

There is a difference between infiltrating a covert strike team, or a recon squad for artillery support and airdropping a tank.

We don't have information on the enemy or even if the fighting is still going on. Blindly committing to a attention grabbing firefight can quickly put us in hot water, where depending on the situation then the objectives at hand might be achieved without alerting any ground forces. If the fighting is bad and reinforcements required then we can find deploy the mech where it would be best suited.

I'm sorry, but airdropping a tank sounds awesome and I know how to make it even better.

FEAR is a go!

CHAPTER ONE: Bullseye (0.3)
The fireteam you've assembled is ready well before the Normandy drops from the Mass Effect relay and into the Bullseye system.

Kaiden and Rolston are both checking over their gear as you stride in, having strapped on your N7 armor and attached your sidearm. You held up your left hand as you did so, growing some claws and retracting them with a thought, before lifting your eyes up to the two other ground pounders. Kaiden had grown up shuttling between America and China - his grandparents had been pushed down into China during the Aberrant War and had managed to luck into coming out ontop during the rebuilding. He'd been picked up by the Ministry when he applied for the PLA and dunked into the teep Prometheus Chamber before he'd turned nineteen. He was possibly the oldest psion you knew personally, and a damn good marine.

Rolston was young, eager, and right off Mars, complete with the red bands tattooed on her throat and cheeks. Like most dusters, she preferred the company of gadgets and machines, which was why she was the best rigger on the ship. Her quad-legged combat drones pranced around her in a holding pattern that she'd programmed for them - she claimed it was to calibrate and test for any irregularities in their servos and limbs.

You knew it was cause they looked cute.

"So, LT, we're going in linked?" Rolston asked.

Kaiden chuckled. "Depends. Commander, did we see anything on the Aberrscopes?"

"Nothing," you say, stepping up to your baby, your lovely little M35 Mako, biokinetic varient. The front of the VARG's carapace swung outwards, reveling your cockpit and the interface that hooked up to your wrist mounted IAD. You held out your arm, turning back to look down at Kaiden and Rolston, who were both racking their weapons on their backs. Nihilus had entered then - and his mandibles flared outwards as he saw you and the VARG connected.

"I was under the impression we were going to be approaching stealthi-" he started.

By then, though...you had already begun to focus inwards.

A billion bytes of text files had been crunched out, and a million liters of ink had been spilled, all to try and communicate to neutrals what it felt like to tap into psi powers. For you, it started inwards - you felt yourself, the connection you had with the vast noetic field that held and contained the whole universe. You were a singular point, a small cup around the idea that was Ti Shepard, and your fingers could slide along that cup and gently bend it. Twist it. Shape it. BUt you waited until you could feel the connection to the VARG, as familiar as sliding on a pair of shoes. The connection was there. Then all you had to do was adjust it...you opened your eyes as the VARG you leaned against began to shrink and collapse inwards, flesh collapsing inwards as matter slipped out of reality - literally editing itself down until you had a small black cat laying on your wrist. THe connection popped free as the IAD disconnected and you tucked your VARG into your pocket.

Nihilus was watching you with wide eyes as you turned to face him, then grinned.

"You're sure you are not one of these Aberrants?" he asked.

You laughed as Kaiden stepped over. "Specter," he said, inclining his head. "May I include you in our mental network? More secure than radio."

Nihilus, to his credit, doesn't hesitate. "Do so," he says and Kaiden touched the Turian's temples with the fingers of his right hand, using his left to touch yours as you step over. Kaiden closes his eyes, furrows his brow. You could feel the faint buzz of the connection flaring up - and then you felt your mind shift and expand, then settle.

Can you hear me? the Turian's mental voice, like his natural one, reverberated oddly in your mind.

You nodded. We're good to go.

Captain Anderson's voice came over your coms. "We're hitting the LZ in thirty seconds. Be ready to move fast - we don't want anyone spotting us."

"Understood," you say and, with a thought, gather up the rest of the squad. The connection you had with Kaiden caused your powers to feel more energetic and potent - telepaths were able to augment other psions by making powers that normally only influenced themselves influence more people, usually those connected in a network. You could, if you wanted, enhance everyone's speed and grace under fire, or give everyone the ability to breathe underwater. Meanwhile, your aptitude, biokinesis? It could make Kaiden a real mind-ripper when it came to getting secrets out of people - biokinetics had a way of doubling any power that a psion used.

Assuming they kept their control. But you trusted Kaiden on that.

The airlock doors opened at the end of the landing bay - the screaming sound of the wind roaring by. You strode to the end, leaped out, then rolled with the impact on the silty, gray-black ground. You came to your feet and triggered the adaptive camo on the N7 uniform. The coloration shimmered, then matched the surrounding terrain, while Kaiden did likewise, and Rolsttov and Nihilus hit and shifted as well - each of you becoming indistinct blurs. Nihilus immediately began to veer off, his mental thoughts quick: I will secure the spaceport - you head for the dig site.

You frowned a bit, then swept your gaze around. Your helmet HUD painted the topography of Bullseye for you - a requirement, considering the sky was a ruddy red cloud mass that hung so close to the ground that the horizon was nearly flattened into oblivion. The terrain was black and gray, with a smoothed out, swept down quality to it. There were no large rocks, no outcroppings of rubble, nothing but flatness battered down by the ages. The only sign of habitation at all were the collection of domes in the distance - some were cracked, and others were still intact, but they formed the majority of the colony infrastructure. The dig sight was located at the eastern edge, but there was no sign of the attackers.

That made you nervous.

The big ship, though?

It was still there, looming above the colony. Waiting for something.

---
How do you progress?
[ ] Make straight for the dig site - maximum speed. Literally, you have biokinetics, everyone should be going cheetah fast.
[ ] Head for the nearest dome. Looks like the habitats. There will be a tram to the dig site, maybe survivors.
[ ] Take the western route and see if you can't find anyone in the Legion fort that's built to cover the western edge of the colony. It looks pretty wrecked, but you might get lucky.
[ ] Goddamn it Nihilus... he may be used to working alone, but you don't let important alien operatives run off alone in an active warzone. Follow him!

imbue instinct is a diff 2 check, and costs 4 of your 10 Psi thanks to being 1 dot higher thanks to your VARG.
POOL: 7d+6e RESULT: 2s+6e = 8s! | SPENT: 2s to beat difficulty, leaving 6s. 2s to reduce from size 2 to size 0, then 4s to perfectly imitate being a cat.

[X] Head for the nearest dome. Looks like the habitats. There will be a tram to the dig site, maybe survivors.

Gotta check for Civies, save who we can.

Agreed

[] Head for the nearest dome. Looks like the habitats. There will be a tram to the dig site, maybe survivors.

Worst case is we run into something or the tram is knocked out. We can see about checking if Legionaries are holed up anywhere after we get to the dig site.

Also, as a Biokinetic it without cost to be scanning for lifeforms in range, so we should be doing that.

[X] Goddamn it Nihilus... he may be used to working alone, but you don't let important alien operatives run off alone in an active warzone. Follow him!
