Ace Attorney Investigations: Ema Skye: Turnabout of the Stars (Kirby/Ace Attorney Quest)

The Explosive Turnabout: Beginning (19/29)
IN THE NAME OF UNANIMITY, we move on!

[X] Tell him

Ema
It was...His Majesty, King Dedede.

Chief Bookem
.........

Ema
...Chief?

Chief Bookem
I should've known... Right from the start! It was so obvious!

Ema
(I don't think I like where this is going...)

Chief Bookem
He just doesn't know when to give up! Let me guess, he's the one who hired you?

Ema
Yes, he is, but let's—

Chief Bookem
So you're his patsy, are you? Some foreign detective sent to do the "job" I won't do?

Ema
Now wait a second! I'm no one's patsy! If anyth—

Chief Bookem
A likely story! If you're lookin' to put Kirby behind bars, you're on your own, Detective! Unless you can give me concrete evidence of Kirby committing any of those crimes, these handcuffs are staying on my belt, and that's final!

Ema
Okay, but what if he's actually inn—

Chief Bookem
It's been...nice talking to you, Detective Skye, but I must practice my signaling.

[Refusing to let me get a word in, Chief Bookem pushes me outside with him, locks up the station, and leaves with a pair of flags in hand.]

Ema
(Way to go, Ema. You alienated alien law enforcement on your first day on an alien planet.)

(*sigh* What do I do now...?)

[X] Eat a Snackoo and prepare to give Bookem a piece of your mind.
HOLD IT!
"I may have been tricked initially, but I'm no s patsy. It's apparent to me that your king is really shady, but I can't make a judgement either way without proper evidence, and since there is no physical evidence left, that only leaves the paper trails. For now though, my gut, and my logic, says that Kirby is innocent of any crime, so don't count me out just yet."

Ema
(Okay, you know what? That does—actually, first, it's snack time. I'm hungry AND frazzled.)

MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH.
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH.
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH...

—AAI:ES—

Ema
(*sigh* ...Much better.)

(NOW that does it! That Chief is not getting away from me—not until he knows the whole story!)

[After safely securing my snackoo supply again, I proceed to track Chief Bookem down, looking for any particularly busy streets...]

Cappy Town
Crossroads

[There, smack-dab in the center of the intersection, is the Chief, practicing flag signals with a whistle in his mouth.]

Chief Bookem
TWEET! PHWEEEEEET!

Ema
(Good thing he has that whistle. All I had to do was follow the tweets!)

(Time to give him a piece of my mind.)

[I walk up to him. He pretends not to notice, and continues whistling and signaling.]

Ema
Sorry to interrupt your practice, Chief, but you left before we could finish our conversation.

Chief Bookem
PHWEEET! TWEET.

Ema
(Sorry, but I don't understand "Whistle-ese.")

Chief, I just need a few more minutes of your time. I'm sure I could clear things up if you—

Chief Bookem
PHWEEEEEEET, PHWEET!

[He turns around.]

Ema
(Turn your back on me, will you? Why, I oughta...)

[I start walking around to meet him face-to-face again, but he keeps turning so his back is always facing me instead.]

Ema
(Are you serious?! Ugh, I don't have time for this!)

Chief Bookem
TWEET TWEET PHWEE—

Chief Bookem
PHWEEEEEEMGPH?!

[My shout nearly made him swallow that whistle. He also dropped one of his flags.]

Chief Bookem
Ptoo! *cough cough cough* What are you... *cough* ...trying to do...?! *hack* Give me a heart attack?!

Ema
It wouldn't have happened if you hadn't tried to snub me.

Chief Bookem
Mmgh... *sigh* All right, all right, I guess I had that coming, didn't I? Well, you got my attention, go on.

Ema
Look, I'm no one's patsy, all right? Regardless of whatever your king may be planning, I'm not arresting anyone until I get my hands on solid, conclusive proof. Until then, all I can do is follow the paper trails and testimonies, so if you really think Kirby is innocent, you shouldn't count me out just yet, Chief.
I WILL get to the bottom of this, you can make sure of that.

(No one bosses Ema Skye around! ...Well, except for my actual boss.)

Chief Bookem
...Whoa, guess I misunderstood you back there. Yeah, you're right, I shouldn't be stonewalling you like that. I do need to keep practicing, though, so I'll get back to you later. But tell you what, if you really wanna "get to the bottom of this"...give those files another look.

Ema
Those files...?

(Does he mean the ones covering the "monster attacks"?)

Chief Bookem
You can consider that my apology if you want. Now move along, Detective, you're in the road. Don't want you to get hit!

[And with that, he goes right back to his signaling as I make my way off to the side of the road.]

Ema
(...Hit by what? I haven't seen any cars since I got here.)
(*sigh* Never mind. I've got other things to worry about. Now let's see...)

Monster Attack Files
Overview
- Nightmare Incident -
Closed due to destruction of Nightmare and subsequent dissolution of NightMare Enterprises.
Number of confirmed monster attacks: 58

- Case Summary -
First monster attack occurred shortly after Kirby's arrival in Cappy Town. The monster was destroyed by Kirby, and later investigation concluded that Kirby had no other connection to the monster.
Attacks by more monsters followed after the first, most gravitating toward Kirby, only to be defeated by Kirby.
The final attack leveled most of Cappy Town, and was confirmed by Meta Knight to be the work of NightMare Enterprises, a galaxy-wide company serving as a front to train armies of monsters. The company was also confirmed to be the perpetrator of the previous monster attacks.
With the assistance of Meta Knight and the residents of Cappy Town, Kirby traveled to the NightMare Enterprises headquarters and defeated its founder and owner, Nightmare, bringing an end to the monster attacks once and for all.
Investigation after returning to Dream Land uncovered evidence of a transport device in Castle Dedede. Further investigation was put on hold due to the device being destroyed in the attack and the subsequent rebuilding of Castle Dedede and Cappy Town.

Ema
(............)
(You have got to be kidding me... This is the second time reading it over, and I still don't believe it! This reads like the plot to that one Steel Samurai spinoff from a year or two ago...)

(What was it called again? "Warrior of Neo Space Tokyo"?)
(This "transport device," though... I wonder...)

Ugh, this took WAY, WAY longer than I wanted. The last couple of weeks have been hectic, but hey, I got a new desktop out of it (the first one in eight years!), we're finally caught up to The First Turnabout's spot in the AA timeline in real life, and I'm another year older (my birthday, coincidentally, shares the same day with Phoenix's debut).
Hopefully I can give my laptop more breaks from now on...

Anyway, the rant's over; sorry about the wait. and probably the diminished quality of this latest installment as well

[X] Go back to Castle Dedede

Ema
(It's time to get some answers! King Dedede... Prepare to suffer my scientific wrath!)

(...Right after I conquer that hill. Why does it have to be so steep...?)

—AAI:ES—

February 2, 1:43 PM
Castle Dedede
Courtyard

[As I walk up towards the fountain in the center of the courtyard, King Dedede comes out through the doors on the opposite end to greet me.]

King Dedede
Well, well, Miss Detective! What brings you back so soon? Did you find what you needed to put that criminal away?

Ema
My search did bear some fruit, yes.

King Dedede
Bwuh heh heh heh heh! I'm glad to hear it!

Ema
Unfortunately...most of it was pretty rotten, I'm afraid. Much like this "case."

[He stops short at that, pausing in his laughing to look at me.]

King Dedede
...Excuse me?

Ema
Something strange is going on here, and I don't like it... And I think it's because of you. You and Kirby.

King Dedede
Is that so...

Ema
King Dedede... For the sake of this investigation, I need to ask you some questions.

King Dedede
...What for? I've told you everything I know. What more could you possibly need to arrest my criminal?

Ema
That is exactly what my questions are about: your information. Something doesn't add up.

King Dedede
Oh? You doubt the testimony of a king?

[Suddenly, the air around us seems to have gotten...heavier, somehow.]

King Dedede
Are the people of your planet usually this...bold? Or perhaps I'm mistaking it for foolishness.

Ema
So it's foolish for me to do my job?

King Dedede
Silence! I don't take such accusations lightly, whether you are one of my subjects or not. I hope you have something to support your words, Detective Skye...

[As he pauses, he snaps his fingers...and a squad of Waddle Dees brandishing spears rush up in a line behind him.]

Ema
(Eep! Those spears... I'm pretty sure they aren't props!)

King Dedede
Because baseless accusations are even more...unforgivable!

Ema
(I should've known he'd refuse to budge. I can't let myself be intimidated! I need to stand my ground!)

If you'll allow me to explain myself, Your Majesty, I can prove I didn't come to this conclusion lightly.

King Dedede
Hmm... Very well. But as the king, I will have the first word, and show you why you wasted your time accusing me!

Ema
...That's fine by me.

(This guy is utterly convinced that Kirby is a criminal, and as far as he's concerned, that's all there is to it.)

(But I know there's more going on here, which means somewhere in his logic...there must be a flaw!)
(First, though, I have to hear his reasoning. Can't exactly find a flaw if I don't let him say anything, after all.)

(Once I've heard what he has to say, that's where the hard part comes in: finding the contradictions. Somewhere in his statement, there's gotta be something that doesn't agree with the evidence. Otherwise, I can't really prove he's wrong...)

(When I find the contradiction, I make sure he knows it by Presenting the evidence that proves it, straight out of my Notepad!)
(And to do that, I just need to add ">Present" right before the thing I'm about to Present. "[X] Present" can also work as a command. I'm pretty sure some people might be a bit picky over which one is "correct", but personally I don't think it really matters.)

(Sometimes, though, there won't be anything particularly inconsistent with a testimony, but I can't let that get to me. Instead, I need to Press the witness with the ">Press" command to draw more details out of a specific part of the statement. Sometimes, the new information I might get is important enough to change the testimony, and that can make all the difference.)

(...However, I can't be too reckless. If I waste too much of the witness's time with irrelevant details or evidence, both their patience and the truth might be lost! I can't let that happen!)

(I've never really used this method before, but I still remember the miracles it can pull off when it's in the right hands. As long as I don't give up, it should give me the edge I need to get to the bottom of this thing...)

(...and allow justice and science to prevail!)

COMING UP NEXT...!

EMA SKYE
VS
KING DEDEDE

PLACE YOUR BETS
Time for our first confrontation! As Ema explained, once we get the witness's argument/testimony, you guys can pick apart each statement and decide whether to Press the witness for more information on that particular statment or Present contradictory evidence and draw out the truth that way.
Both Press and Present prompts will be determined by majority vote. Just be aware that not every statement is meant to be Pressed, especially if it just wastes everyone's time...buuuut that usually only happens with certain witnesses and certain details, so don't be too paranoid about that.

Speaking of wasting time, that brings us to our "Hit Points" for this quest: Poise Vitality.

I renamed it from "Truth Vitality" so it now represents both Ema's diligence to see the case through to the end and the witness's willingness to put up with her detective antics. In most cases, irrelevant evidence or Pressed information will incur a penalty of one Poise Vitality bar, but if that changes, you can be sure I'll let you all know.

In the meantime, stay tuned for the next story post! I should have it up before Friday. hopefully...

I GOT IT UP BEFORE TUESDAY. YOU HEAR THAT, MONDAY?! I STILL WON!

Well, here we are, seven pages of build-up all leading to...this!

EMA SKYE
VS
KING DEDEDE

---Unforgivable Suspicion---

King Dedede
If this is the way you foreign detectives do things, I gotta say that I'm regretting hiring you in the first place.
Instead of badgering me, you should be out there, catching Kirby before he strikes again!
Did you even check those three places where he was frequently sighted? Since you're standing here before me, I'd say you haven't.
I speak for all of Dream Land when I declare that Kirby is a criminal, and he should pay for his crimes!

—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
...Well, what do you have to say for yourself, Detective? If you were smart, you would be begging for my forgiveness.

[His beak does not impede his ability to smirk.]

Ema
(You'll have to do better than that to strong-arm me, you big, fat penguin.)

(...Even though he's actually totally right in that I never did get around to investigating those places...)

What do I have to say? Plenty.

However, the proof I have that you're wrong is just waiting to talk your ears off, so I think I'll let it speak for me instead.

(Let's see just how well a king's logic holds...)

(...against a detective's evidence! Here goes...!)

—AAI:ES—

Be sure to indicate whether you're Pressing on a statement or Presenting evidence when you're voting! The "Status / Inventory" post is your friend.

Oh, and one more thing about Poise Vitality: yes, it can be restored, but we don't have the means to do so yet.

[X] Press: I speak for all of Dream Land when I declare that Kirby is a criminal, and he should pay for his crimes!

King Dedede
I speak for all of Dream Land when I declare that Kirby is a criminal, and he should pay for his crimes!

Ema
So...everyone knows Kirby is a crook. Is that what you're saying?

King Dedede
That's what I just declared, didn't I?

Ema
You've asked every citizen in Cappy Town? Your guards and Dr. Escargoon? Even people living outside the town limits?

King Dedede
Yes, yes, yes! Everyone agrees with me! Kirby needs to be brought to justice! What part about any of that don't you understand?!

Ema
(The part where there's a gaping flaw in your logic, and how you've completely missed it.)

(Guess the only way I'm gonna get him to see it is by pointing it out and presenting some evidence to break through his blustering.)

King Dedede
If this is the way you foreign detectives do things...

I've always wondered about the in-universe explanation of why witnesses are willing to repeat their testimonies ad infinitum for you...

Just a thought, don't mind me.

[X] I speak for all of Dream Land when I declare that Kirby is a criminal, and he should pay for his crimes!
-[X] Present Kirby Notes. As in the ones from Chief Bookem.

King Dedede
I speak for all of Dream Land when I declare that Kirby is a criminal, and he should pay for his crimes!

[With my Notepad good and ready, I pysch myself up and...]

Ema
Your Majesty, you claim you and everyone else in Dream Land believe Kirby is a crook. Is that correct?

King Dedede
Wh-what's with the "objection"?! We're not in court! And you're not even a lawyer!

Ema
You'll have to excuse me, Your Majesty. My...mentors, so to speak, and a...relative of mine all practiced law, and I owe them quite a bit for helping me get to where I am today.

So I might have...picked up a habit or two from them.

King Dedede
Hmph... I still don't understand what you're, um, objecting to. As the king, I order you to tell me!

Ema
Gladly.

You see, Your Majesty, there's a pretty big hole in your logic. You might not be aware of it, but it's there.

King Dedede
Wh-what are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with what I said!

Ema
Even a ruler like you should be wary of making generalizations...like the one you just made.

Especially when they're not true. You do not speak for everyone in Dream Land, and I have the proof!

[I present the Kirby Notes that I have stored with my Notepad.]

King Dedede
And just what is that supposed to be?

Ema
This is testimony given to me by Chief Bookem of the Cappy Town Police...and it paints a rather different picture of your "criminal." So different, in fact, that he doesn't seem like much of a criminal at all!

[Dedede grits his teeth.]

King Dedede
Grh... That police chief... I should've known...!

Ema
Perhaps you can tell me whose picture is more accurate? Is it yours...or the Chief's?

King Dedede
This is the word of a single Cappy against my own. Even in this peaceful land, there will always be outliers. I ask you this: do you have any other testimonies that match that police chief's?

[He folds his arms across his chest.]

King Dedede
Otherwise, I believe this is hardly worth investigating.

Ema
I think it IS worth investigating, Your Majesty, because that "single Cappy" happens to be your chief of police. Out of all your subjects, he would know this case the best. Now...can you tell me why there is an inconsistency with these two testimonies about the same person?

[Dedede grits his teeth again.]

King Dedede
.........

Ema
If there really is no reason for me to suspect you, then there should have no problem with you explaining this. Or am I wrong?

[Dedede closes his eyes in thought for a few seconds.]

King Dedede
...Fine. I shall indulge you, Detective, and explain why this "difference" between those two accounts you seem so focused on...doesn't actually make much of a difference at all.

AND SO BEGINS...

EMA SKYE

KING DEDEDE
(Round 2)

What's that pesky penguin-ish potentate got up his sleeve this time?!

KING DEDEDE

---King Dedede's Logic---

King Dedede
It looks like you forgot that the Chief and I aren't on the best of terms.
Have you considered the possibility that he gave you that conflicting testimony just to spite me?
I'm not saying he's sold out to Kirby, no...
...but that grudge is still there, whether he's clean or dirty or whatever you'd call it in-between.
Given this unfair bias, I need to ask: how much of that testimony is even true?

—AAI:ES—

Ema
So you're saying...Chief Bookem gave me...forged evidence? Th-that's...

[King Dedede holds his hands in front of him, yet not breaking his mask of seriousness.]

King Dedede
Hey, you said it, not me. I'm just asking you if you really took his credibility into account. That's all.
So unless you've got something else that makes the Chief's story more believable...I'm afraid that testimony alone won't cut it.

Ema
(Ngh...he's right. From that perspective, it's certainly possible this is simply an attempt to make the king look bad.)

(But, the same can be said about Dedede's own testimony. And I bet he knows it, too.)

(I need evidence to prove Chief Bookem's story is the right one...but more than that, I need the right opportunity. I should Press Dedede for more details, and see if he gives me something I can use.)

Hmm...which version of the winning vote should I use...? *rolls*
[X] Press All Statements

King Dedede
It looks like you forgot that Chief Bookem and I aren't on the best of terms.

Ema
I didn't forget that! What makes you think I did?!

King Dedede
It was how you presented that testimony. No hesitation whatsoever, not realizing the implications of what you were doing...

Ema
What do you mean by that, exactly?

King Dedede
As I told you before, accusing a king is no laughing matter. All it can take is just one person being suspicious, and more will follow, sowing distrust among the masses.

[Dedede places his hands on his hips and puffs his chest out.]

King Dedede
By accusing me, you threaten the very stability of Dream Land! And besides...

—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
Have you considered the possibility that he gave you that conflicting testimony just to spite me?

Ema
I doubt the Chief would be that petty. From what I know of him, that would be pretty out-of-character for him to do something like that.

King Dedede
So you believe you have an accurate picture of someone you just met only today?

Ema
Thanks to the information you gave me about him before I left this morning, I already had a pretty good first impression of him. My meeting with him only helped bolster that image.

(Ignoring the fact that I found him sleeping, of course.)

King Dedede
Gngh... Well, it's still a possibility. You might have known him for just one day, but I've had to deal with him for years. And he can be a real piece of work sometimes.

—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
I'm not saying he's sold out to Kirby, no...

Ema
How could Kirby have been able to get someone like the Chief in his pocket?

King Dedede
Come now, Detective, you know how it's possible. Bribery, exortion, blackmail... He could even be holding Bookem's loved ones hostage for all we know.

Ema
The Chief seemed pretty calm for someone who might have had a wife or child held hostage.

King Dedede
...I see. So it might be unlikely that Bookem's been bought and sold...

—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
...but that grudge is still there, whether he's clean or dirty or whatever you'd call it in-between.

Ema
You seem rather hung-up on this "grudge" you claim the Chief has with you.

King Dedede
Wouldn't you be worried if someone working for you seemed to have it out for you?

Ema
Could you elaborate on how the Chief "works for you"?

King Dedede
He's one of my subjects, so that means he's the Chief because I let him be. Simple as that. That's how it goes for everyone else as well.

Ema
(Are...are you serious? He's practically admitting he's a tyrant!)

(I can't let him get away with that, but... Ugh, what should I do...?)
{See below for prompts}
—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
Given this unfair bias, I need to ask: how much of that testimony is even true?

Ema
In a way, the same can be said for your testimony as well, Your Majesty.

King Dedede
...What?

Ema
Just like how all I have to go on with the Chief's testimony is his word that Kirby is not a criminal...

The only proof there is that Kirby IS a criminal is your own testimony.

[Dedede starts shaking his fist in anger.]

King Dedede
Gggh... In...inconceivable...! How can you doubt my testimony?!

Ema
Care to tell me why I shouldn't doubt it?

[A few beads of sweat roll down the side of Dedede's face.]

King Dedede
............

Ema
(I've had enough with running around in circles. If I can just keep King Dedede on the defensive, I might find the opportunity I need to break through.)

(I can't help but feel there's something I might be missing here. Maybe if I listen just a little bit longer, and keep Pressing on for more info...)

—AAI:ES—

King Dedede
[] It looks like you forgot that Chief Bookem and I aren't on the best of terms.
[] Have you considered the possibility that he gave you that conflicting testimony just to spite me?

NEW! [] Particularly when my own testimony should be more than sufficient...

Every so often, you might run into a decision branch while Pressing. Be sure to add what you think Ema should do to your votes when these pop up.
Here's an example of the syntax you should use:
[Z] Press It looks like you forgot that Chief Bookem and I aren't on the best of terms.
[Z] Press ...but that grudge is still there, whether he's clean or dirty or whatever you'd call it in-between.
-[Z] Speak up
[Z] Press Given this unfair bias, I need to ask: how much of that testimony is even true?
I'll also always indicate when you receive new statements from Pressing, as you can see with that "NEW!" prefix up there. This prefix does not have to be added to your vote.

In addition, I've given the "Status / Inventory" post a formatting overhaul.

Ema
Your Majesty, the power to personally assign each working subject their job...and the power to take those same jobs away with just a wave of your hand...

Are you seriously claiming you have such overreaching powers? Not exactly tools a benevolent ruler would use, I have to say.

King Dedede
Over...reaching?

[One of Dedede's eyes starts to twitch.]

Ema
That much absolute control can easily go to one's head, no matter how infallible they think they are.

King Dedede
In-infallible?!

[Dedede's fists begin shaking erratically.]

Ema
And I think I can reasonably claim that you, King Dedede...are very fallible, indeed.

King Dedede
You... You DARE accuse me of such a thing?! You... YOU...! This is an insult to the crown! Disrespect, I say! DISRESPEEEEEECTFUULLLL!!

[Dedede stomps the ground in sheer rage!]

Ema
(Wait..."insult"..."disrespect"...?!)

(*gasp* Oh, no...!)

(I think I remember reading about this when I was studying abroad in Europe! "Laize-majesty", I think?)

(No, wait, it was "lese-majesty": the crime of violating a monarch's dignity!)

(Ema, you foot-mouthed idiot! You've gone and done it now!)

King Dedede
Unforgivable... Absolutely UNFORGIVABLE!!! Guards! Throw her in chains! NOW!!

[The Waddle Dees begin advancing on me, brandishing their oh-so-pointy spears at me!]

Ema
H-hey, wait! Hang on!

(Nnngh... What do I do... What do I do?! Think, Ema, think!)

!!!!!
[] Defend yourself with words (Write-in plan of defense)
[] Defend yourself with actions (Write-in plan of defense)
[] Go quietly
!!!!!

Uh oh, the dreaded interrupt. Only when this is resolved will things continue as normal.

In hindsight though... I mean, come on, saying something like that to Dedede's face, and Anime!Dedede at that? However, that being said, you do have what you need to get Ema through this sudden crisis, even if you have her pull a courtroom antic or two, or lose your last bag of Snackoos in the process.

I just hope I don't get thrown in SV jail for this...

[X] Defend yourself with words: OBJECTION into Monster Attack Files. Not only do we have Bookem's notes, we have hard evidencethat more or less backs up his version of events, whereas all we have from your side is just your word. It is far more likely that you are the one who is giving false information, deliberately or otherwise. When I say you're fallible, there is no disrespect. Just astatement of cold, hard fact.

Ema
(......Wait a minute! Wait a minute!! Why am I even thinking about lese-majesty?! I'm just jumping to conclusions here!)

[Dedede stops moving!]

[The spear-wielding Waddle Dees stop moving!]

[...Even the fountain stops making noise? ...Nah, couldn't be.]

Ema
Not so fast, Your Majesty! On what grounds exactly, are you having me arrested?

King Dedede
Whaaaat?! I seriously have to spell it out for you?! You insulted the Great King of Dream Land! His dignity! His character! If that's not a crime, I don't know what is!

Ema
You're right. That is a crime, called "lese-majesty."

King Dedede
Huh. Thought it was treason...

Ema
However...that doesn't apply to me.

(At least...I HOPE it doesn't...)

King Dedede
...Come again?

Ema
(Here goes...!)

During my time here, I noticed a rather surprising similarity between the laws that run your kingdom, and the set of laws I'm familiar with back home.

King Dedede
And what's your point?!

Ema
Never, in American history, has there ever been a case of lese-majesty charged or tried on native soil! It doesn't exist in our country! Which means...

[Riding the feeling welling up from within myself, an almost instinctual feeling...I point my finger at him dramatically!]

Ema
You can't legally charge me for disrespecting you!

[King Dedede's jaw practically drops to the ground in shock! For a second, I can swear I feel the ground shaking as it happens.]

King Dedede
Im... Impossible!!

Ema
(Yes! I broke through his guard again! My next hit had better be a knockout blow...!)

(Or he'll have enough time to realize I don't actually know any of Dream Land's laws...)

And furthermore.. I have more proof that the correct account on Kirby is Chief Bookem's. Decisive proof.

[King Dedede is starting to sweat!]

King Dedede
Nnnn...ngh... No! I don't believe you! Show me!
If you really do have decisive proof, what is it?! I demand to see it!

[I quickly dig through my bag, and...]

Ema
I'd like you to have a look at these, Your Majesty.

King Dedede
And what are those files supposed to be?

Ema
Hard, definitive proof. These are case files describing the monster attacks that were plaguing Dream Land until fairly recently.

[King Dedede is visibly shocked!]

King Dedede
!!

Ema
I see you remember them. It's funny... I thought the castle looked pretty spiffy and clean when I first got here. Back then, I figured you must've just pulled out all the stops to make a good first impression. But I suppose it's easy to have your castle be clean when it's brand-new, right?

King Dedede
............

Ema
Care to tell a new arrival like me what happened to your old castle, or shall we read these together and find out for ourselves?

[King Dedede is sweating profusely!]

King Dedede
I... Y-you...

See next post for the rest.
