A Vampire Like No Other (OC, White Wolf-style Vampire in Gotham)

Chaper 1.5
Vitae: 2/10
Willpower: 2/5

With his mom in her room, Julius took a moment to look around their apartment. It was overall something like a rectangle, with a the living area connected to the kitchen and entryway on one side, their two bedrooms separated by the bathroom/laundry room on the other side, and a small balcony attached to the living area.

Something was off about his home tonight though, Julius felt more confined than usual. He also didn't particularly want to leave though, the outside world was a lot more intimidating than it used to be.

Still, Julius was hungry, and he needed to deal with that soon for several reasons. He could do his research when he was fuller, and probably more effectively for the lack of distraction.

So Julius left the house, taking their spare key with him (at least until they could get a new spare made). He'd remember to remind mom about that, since he wasn't sure where she'd gone to make the last one (against building policy).

He needed a new car too, but that was a problem for later. They didn't have the free cash for something like that right now.

On his way down the stairs, Julius began to ponder where to try his luck hunting. He could find a bar and camp nearby, then jump some of the people leaving. That would probably be suspicious even if they wound up forgetting the whole event, unless he came up with a good way to make it look harmless and got lucky. If he specifically targeted people who tried to get into cars after leaving, he could do a public service in knocking them unconscious and also get fed. And by leaving them in their cars, create the explanation for 'what happened to me.'

He could also jump some criminals. That would be riskier, since it would probably involve fighting, but he did have powers, such as healing and super strength. He'd just have to make sure that he drank more than his powers used up.

Lastly, he could do that, but with regular civilians. They would be weaker and less combat prone, probably, which means he would probably have to use less powers for the same amount of dinner, but something about attacking random people who hadn't done anything wrong rubbed Julius the wrong way.

Or maybe there was something else, and he wouldn't think of it until he saw it out the bus window…

Lucille Montgomory let out a deep breath as Julius left their apartment. She meant what she said, she loved her boy, fangs or not. She still needed some time to process, so it was just as well that he left. It gave her time to think and consider.

Lucille hadn't been religious since her very christian family had basically disowned her out for becoming a mother at seventeen. Julius didn't even know she'd ever been anything but agnostic. She hadn't realized those teachings had still held strong in anything but her speech patterns, either.

Then, her first reaction to Julius' story had been something like my son is going to hell, so that was something to re-evaluate.

She slapped herself with both hands. "Focus." She had too many questions, there were too many unknowns in this situation. She had to answer at least some of them, so she booted up her computer to see what information was out there about vampires, and especially what was going on spiritually. She didn't like what she found.

When a human was sired, their human soul left their body and a demon soul took possession of the corpse, reanimating it and altering its physiology.

This vampire, desiring to live again, is bitter and angry. It kills people and then animates their body.

A Gaki can be either the soul of a person who was overly compulsive, deceitful, jealous or greedy during their life just like their Preta brethren or they can be a demonic spirit... They can shapeshift (sometime taking the form of someone their target knows) preferring to slowly drain their prey to make it appear to be an illness.

Different facts about different types of vampires from different mythologies from different parts of the world. There were more tidbits like that, too. The more she researched, the more she realized that there was actually a significant chance that the thing she'd spoken two only a few hours before wasn't actually her son.

And Lucille didn't know what to do about that.

Sorry about the delay, grandpa in the hospital rn for an pretty serious infection, and it took me a few days to get my writerbrain alive again. Have a bonus scene to make up for it.

The vote will be open until saturday night, about 17 hours from now.

Chapter 1.6
Vitae: 2/10
Willpower: 2/5

Finding a bar in Gotham wasn't hard, even at only Nine PM. Finding a bar that had people leaving this early in the night, was much harder. After walking around and loitering for a few minutes, Julius realized this wasn't going to work so easily.

People weren't leaving bars in droves yet, and Julius was going to look suspicious if he kept hanging around for no reason. He needed… well he needed a better way to hide more than anything, but for now a disguise would do the trick. Gotham had a large homeless population, and one of them camping in a parking lot wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

Julius didn't fit the part; he was too clean. He also had clothes that weren't meant for spending nights outside; a relatively thin T-shirt and jeans.

…It didn't take long for him to hop a bus to the nearest thrift store and pick up a hoodie. It took even less time to find a suitably filthy alley to go roll around in. Once done, he sighed. He smelled like ass, and it wouldn't even pass a hard inspection.

It would pass at a glance though, and that was good enough for tonight.

Heading over to a different bar, Julius took his (inside out to hide the logo) thrift store bag and filled it with junk from a nearby dumpster, because a hobo without a container of some sort to carry their limited stuff would also be suspicious.

God, Julius really wanted a better way to hide. This much effort just for dinner was ridiculous. He almost wished his nose didn't work.

Still, as expected, given that it had been more than an hour to get setup, it only took half an hour or so for some visibly upset girl to shamble out to her car, not even sparing him a glance. If she'd been sober, she would have noticed him creeping up behind her; Julius wasn't exactly a ninja.

He did know he was supposed to match his steps to hers though, which was apparently good enough. To get him close-ish, and then he slipped out of his shoes to make the last few steps quiet, while she was focused on getting her door open.

Ultimately, she did notice him, but not until she got her door open and he was within arms reach. Cursing his head as she spun around with panic splashed across her face, Julius doubled down and went for it.

She tried to stab him with her key first, but Julius just knocked her arm aside. She took a deep breath, probably to scream, and Julius countered by punching her in the sternum. With the wind knocked out of her, she wasn't able to put up much of a fight as Julius pulled her up and sank his fangs into her neck.

She was delicious, quite possibly the best he'd ever had… not that he had many other experiences with this to compare her to. Mainly sweet, sweeter than a dozen mangos, but with a slight sour edge to her. It was a perfect pairing.

After taking what he could from her, he sat her down in the driver's seat of the car, and dropped the keys on the floor at her feet. Then he got his shoes, before scooting her seat all the way forward and angling the steering wheel downwards. It didn't quite touch her sternum, where he'd knocked the wind out of her, but it was close enough.

He made sure to lock her doors before he left her there, though. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her.

He left the lot after grabbing his fake hobo bag, heading off to a new bar. Too many people 'falling asleep' without leaving from one bar might raise a flag or two.

Luckily for him, Gotham had many bars.

He spent hours doing the same thing. He'd gotten lucky with the first girl happening so soon, apparently, because he only got two more bites (both men) in before the bars started closing at 4 am. Most of the people leaving did so in groups, were parked too close to the door or street where they could easily be seen if he jumped them, wore obvious gang affiliation stuff, or just didn't seem intoxicated. Still, it was going well enough… until the bars closed. Then everyone was dipping out, and him attacking someone would have been easily detected.

He was about to give up and go home, when one last man shuffled out, swaying so much that he probably had to be kicked awake and physically carried to the door to remove him from the bar.

He didn't head for a car, but Julius wasn't sure this man should even be walking home… and he still wanted to see if it was possible for him to feel full. He wasn't hungry at the moment, but he remembered what it was like to be full as a human, and he wasn't there yet.

The man was wasted enough that Julius got him by just walking up normally, grabbing his arm, and biting it while the man struggled to figure out what was going on. With the perspective of how good blood could really be, all these extra drunk people tasted so much blander in comparison. Still enjoyable, but... like animal crackers, as opposed to a pop tart.

In the end, Julius discovered that it was possible for him to feel full… it just took a lot of effort, drinking form four or five people. Unless he collected a group to feed on regularly, this feeling of fullness wasn't something he'd be able to achieve often.

As Julius staggered away from the last man, and towards the bus stop, as if he'd chugged a bottle of vodka recently. Even if he was experiencing an echo of intoxication, after drinking so much inebriated blood in one sitting, especially with the last one being blackout drunk, the echos added up.

He had to recount his bus fair twice to make sure he got it right, which was not a good sign.

It probably would have been faster if he hadn't been so focused on his very profound thoughts, about blood and its many flavors, and which he liked best. And why that first woman's had been so much better than the rest.

Lots of safely feeding: +6 Vitae

He got off at his stop, only to realize a mistake had been made. He wasn't sure if he'd gotten on the wrong bus or just got off on the wrong stop, but somehow he was already lost.

He was pretty sure he was still in the upper east side though; it was a big part of the city, and he hadn't been on the bus long.

Before he could turn around and get back on, the bus left, and Julius just frowned at it's retreating back. That was rude.

Then he turned around again, and started ambling away. If the bus didn't want him, he didn't want the bus. He was close-ish to home, he could find his own way. Probably.

About an hour later, he had a moment of clarity in his confusion, and recognized where he was. By some stroke of luck he had actually been heading in the right direction… kinda. Before he could really set off for where he did know home was, he heard voices from a nearby alley. This being Gotham, he would have ignored it, if not for the content.

A deep male voice, "You thought you were clever hiding the loot in your shirt, didn't you? HAH! Nobody gets anything over the Falcones. "

A much younger female voice, "Let go of me!"

That sounded like trouble to Julius. The Falcones were a huge mafia, and controlled the entire Upper East Side where Julius himself lived.

On the other hand, if these guys were shaking down a young female thief at balls am, they probably weren't terribly important to the organization.

The male voice rang out again. "Consider this the Don's Hunting Tax, heh, and what comes afterwards, the penalty for hunting without a permit."

Muffled impacts came, though the lack of pained shouts implied they were somehow not helping her situation. "Don't you fucking dare!"

They were still criminals though, which means they were probably stronger than your average joe… or at least armed with something deadly. There was a high chance that Julius would have to use his powers to win. Costly and they would probably remember it. The girl would definitely remember it, unless he attacked her too, which seemed inappropriate

On the other hand, the guy could easily be used to refill whatever blood Julius had to spend, after he made the girl go away.

He took a step…

[ ] Down the street. There's no upside to this, certainly nothing worth risking enmity with the Falcones.

[ ] Towards the alley. Even if she's also a criminal, Julius can't let a girl be attacked and robbed right in front of him, in his own backyard.

Alright, this vote will be open for 2-ish days, and close about 40 hours from now.

It was delayed largely becuase I realize I'd screwed up my own mental map of who was where in Gotham, so I spent the half the night making a nice color-coded map of Gotham for myself in google paint.

Chapter 1.7
Vitae: 10/10
Willpower: 2/5

If Julius' heart still beat, it would have been pounding with adrenaline as he moved towards what was almost certainly going to be violence. Excitement mostly, and a tiny bit of fear. After all, he didn't even have a disguise to keep the heat from coming back on him.

He felt his blood shift, but not deplete, as though the effect had taken so little as to be free. Julius felt something had happened to his clothing, but couldn't see anything himself.

That was enough thought, he was at the mouth of the alley now.

Poking his head around, he saw a big man, six and a half feet easily, holding a much smaller blonde woman against the wall by her neck with one hand. The girl's trenchcoat was open, and the entire front of her shirt had been torn off.

On the ground at their feet was a pile of assorted cash and a small cloth bag.

Julius had a vague inkling to say something. Something witty, that would get their attention. Unfortunately, nothing came to mind that wasn't also stupid.

It didn't matter in the end, as soon as he stepped into the open of the alley, both of them turned to him. The big guy growled. "Get lost, punk. This is Falcone business." The girl, meanwhile, sent him a begging look.

Julius charged the man, and discovered the difference between someone who technically knew how to throw a punch, and someone who had actual experience. Julius threw his punch, but the man just stepped back, and then countered with his own.

Julius staggered back, jaw suddenly very sore. Meanwhile the man shook his hand out and smirked. "Alright, I can kill you first." Dragging the girl along in his left hand, he pulled a big knife out of his coat.

Julius felt a spike of fear, his half drunken mind finally realizing that this was dangerous for reasons besides being detected. His blood nearly spasmed in its haste to strengthen Julius for this trial.

Julius' flesh toughened supernaturally, his muscles twitched with inhuman strength, and the world seemed to slow down around him.

In an instant, Julius was no longer on the back foot. He surged forward and smashed the man in the jaw with enough force to make it crack audibly and send the man staggering back away from the girl. Then he kept going; stomach, chest, face, and more.

During that, the man apparently realized his only viable plan was to stab Julius through the onslaught. Unfortunately for him, despite Julius failing to dodge due to tunnel vision on his offense, the big knife meant to impale Julius' neck only managed a rather shallow cut on Julius' shoulder and upper back.

And then it was over, and the man was on the ground, unconscious and horribly bruised with (probably) several fractured bones and a broken nose, if the amount of blood on his face was any indication.

Turning around, he locked eyes with the girl, who was halfway through picking up the bag and cash from the ground. With the rest of the world still moving slower than usual, it was child's play for him to notice the flash of fear that came across her face, and the way she swallowed nervously.

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Poaching in Falcone's turf? Not smart."

Her eyes narrowed. "Neither was beating up one of his guys."

Julius shrugged. "That's a future-Julius problem."

They both paused, her with a raised eyebrow, and Julius with a cringe. He shouldn't have said that. The world came back into it's normal flow, while she seemed to analyze him. "What're you on?"

He rubbed the back of his head, sheepishly. "Might have had a bit much to drink. Anyway-"

"Holly." She cut him off. "And I don't like owing people… so what do you want from me?"

Julius finally, in the pause he was given here (and with the threat no longer taking up most of his attention), took the time to look her over. Miniskirt, that shirt used to be a crop-top, leather boots with inch heels, freshly applied makeup… and the fact that she wasn't bothering to cover up the missing front of her shirt painted a pretty clear picture; prostitute.

The cash and bag gave the impression that she was moonlighting as a thief. Or would that be sunlighting, since she seemed to be a lady of the night?

As Julius shook that stupid thought out of his head, he noticed she was starting to look impatient. So he asked for the first thing that came to mind…

[ ] A free session. He had enough cash to pick up a night at one of the seedier hotel rooms, and this would be a good way to figure out if he was even capable of those things.

[ ] A hug and a kiss. Kiss being a new code for bite. So far his favorite snack was the woman from earlier, and he was pretty sure he'd used up more blood than he could safely take from one person anyway.

[ ] Half of that cash stack. He could use a bit more spending money, especially if he was going to try and save up for a new car. Or a motorcycle, maybe.

[ ] Write In (Requires QM Approval).

Should been out two days ago but mom is a fukken drama queen and threw a hissey fit over dumb shit. Anyway, here you go.

...also if the free session option is going to violate the rules or sth, someone tell me and I'll remove it.
