Looks like we get to pick either the Westrosi or the water dancer as a contact. They're styles don't mesh. Given that, though, there's not much we can add to the water dancer's school, and as a shaper, we can produce weapons and heavy armor that are *much* better than what the westrosi are generally throwing around.

Still the problem about magic. Braavos might be convinced to be okay with it. Westeros won't be.

So, as an aside because I feel like we're heading in this sort of direction, do we have some kind of explanation for why a maester equivalent's apprentice is going to be requiring advanced combat tuition? I mean, I suppose we can just offer payment and keep mum on the subject, but I feel like that's going to come off as extremely unusual. Even moreso taking into consideration that we've got three apprentices but only two will be receiving any such instruction and they'll be having quite different curricula.

Just say it's part of our order's policy that everyone should receive a certain level of martial training from a competent expert and that those who show talent in that area should be pushed to excel.

Sure, that doesn't mesh entirely with the maester-type claim in the specifics, but it does quite well in the generalities. That is to say, it's not at all unusual for orders requiring you to devote your life to them, whether religious or secular, to have fairly strict requirements on behavior and lifestyle, even when those requirements seem nonsensical to outsiders. Almost anything can be brushed off with an "it's our way" as long as we're willing to pay for it and it doesn't seem totally insane.

I am not sure we would have to chose, sure the style aren't realy compatible but beyond how some things are universal and complemetar , I would believe the martial training of an Agent and a Guardian would be diferent enought that we will rrequire more than one teacher to fill all the gaps.

Weighing in on this... You will need different teachers. But Sindri will bring it up in the story posts when you are getting near those points and what specifically you need.

But to give a summary of what you will eventually need without checking my notes...

Guardian:
  • Martial instructor.
  • Botanist/alchemist(rare poisons & cures of Planetos basically)
  • Riding instructor.
  • Tactics & strategy instructor(including naval warfare).
Agents:
  • Martial instructor.
  • Botanist/alchemist(rare poisons & cures of Planetos basically)
  • Riding instructor.
  • Pickpocket, lock picking, and general subterfuge instructor(i.e - you need a professional assassin or thief).
  • High end courtesan instructor(not so much the sex as the seducing and manipulation)
Shaper:
  • Martial instructor.
  • Botanist/alchemist(rare poisons & cures of Planetos basically)
  • Riding instructor.
 
would still rather hire someone to take over the physical fitness of the apprentices for a few days every week.
 
Hm. We can probably ask what's-her-name that we sell salves through for a botanical instructor. I'm fairly sure for riding instruction it's Dothraki or it's shit, so we'll need to find a Dothraki who doesn't want to give Rhakaro shit for having joined a cult. Martial instructors should be findable at fighting rings like this, though our current candidate might not be the best. We'll probably need to ask our smuggler contact to put us in touch with a thief, and also get enough defenses that they don't decide to go snooping and make us kill them. No idea where to get a tactical/strategic instructor with our current connections, except maybe that chess guy. Likewise, I have only guesses about who can get us in contact with a seduction/manipulation trainer.
