It is an unremarkable night early in the summer that your attention is drawn away from your research as a fyora's thrill echoes in through the window from the bottom of the lighthouse, one soon followed by others - a precaution you had taken in recent times, to spread several fyora over the island as night fell to act as sentries while two thahds waited at the bottom floor should anyone manage to sneak past them. As for where your guests are arriving from... The sea, going by the connection you share with the fyoras outside the walls.

It is likely Fadlan then, what with you sending the agreed message each night for him or those working for him to spot.

And so you close the book held in your hands, placing it on a table and checking the stove to make sure there is enough water not to required your attention for a while - and then you descend the stairs, mentally ordering your fyoras to observe but not approach the men making land on your island even as you order the thahds to robe themselves in the heavy swats of cloth you had set aside for the occasion.

You also make a point to check in on your apprentices as you descend the stairs, listening to their even breaths and watching for movement in case they should be awake - but as you find no signs of one of them being awake you quietly continue down the stairs, unbolting the door as you reach the bottom floor and lighting the lantern in the centre of the table, the thahds taking up positions on your left and right as you sit down and wait for your guests to arrive.

And you do not have to wait long, for minutes later the pirate slips in, four of his men doing the same - though you can sense your fyoras observing two others outside of the lighthouse, each of them circling around the building peer into the night. Fadlan meanwhile merely pulls out a chair and sits down, his eyes meeting your own in the dim light.

It is several minutes before he speaks, you yourself holding your tongue as you observe the pirate. "You wished for a meeting keeper, so speak."

What do you say/do?

I hope we got at least a name out of Lenwen? Otherwise we would be wasting everybodys time here.

[x] Thank him for coming in person, then lay out our request; we are looking for information on the pirates/slavers who originally captured and sold Lenwen, in order to make good on an agreement. We would like their identities and locations, as well as being kept informed about both until the time comes.
Provide whatever information (documents from when we purchased Lenwen, Lenwen's own memories, etc) to help in this task.
Obviously, we don't expect them to do this for free, so inquire what they might wish for in return, and give some indication about our capabilities, then begin negotiating.

Somewhat rough, admittedly, but should be the gist of it.

[X] Set the atmosphere. Put on a serious face when you speak; let them know you're not a joke.

Say: I know that there's smugglers and pirates all over slavery's bay. I know that you're one of them. I know that like all pirates you've to sell what you steal and smuggle.

I'll be straightforward with you. I want in.

I can be your best friend, tell you patrol routes, turn a blind eye or grease a few palms. I can buy your wares; Or refer you to others who will.

In exchange I want information. Who rules the seas. Whose against who? Who should I count as a friend? Or an enemy?

So what do you say? Mutual benefit? Or another enemy to look out for?

If he agrees to do business set up a system of communication with the man and end with a question

[X] Now that we're officially business partners; I'd like to know the whereabouts of a certain pirate. His name is (insert) and he has been known to frequent (insert) Tell me everything you know about him, and if your information is good; Consider me your new best friend. (Sly Smile)

Our Shaper has much to offer. Being a keeper alone is one thing. Being friends with the Givani family is another; not including our many skills..

[X] If the pirate questions the worth of your friendship; tell him of your closeness to the givani family. If he is still skeptical: Show him that you produce skyglass and are able to produce things that would be extremely valuble to a pirate. Hook, Line and Sanker.

No - she did not even speak the language at the time.

That said Lenwen is the only member of the Free Folk that Sindri has seen in Astapor at all, so he suspects that slave raids on the part of the world she comes from is a rarity.

You incline your head towards the pirate. "Thank you for appearing personally."

Fadlan makes a dismissing gesture with his left hand, waving away your answer. "I regularly pass by Astapor and so make a point of personally dealing with any issues that arise - especially when it concerns one that could possibly be disruptive to my efforts in the area should it prove serious."

You nod in response, acknowledging his concern before replying. "An understandable viewpoint - though in this case it is not an issue that needs resolving as much as you possibly being able to aid me in a personal matter." You push some papers across the table towards the man, one of his men grabbing it and handing it to Fadlan who scans the paper with care. "I recently acquired a slave, one originating quite far from here in the very northern most reaches of Westeros - one of the Free Folk as they call themselves."

At this Fadlan raises a single eyebrow and looks over the paper once more. "And a girl at that I see. A wise investment if trained properly." His eyes glint as he watches you, clearly trying to judge your reaction to your words and the implications they carry.

You of course reveal nothing, your expression even in the shadows cast upon it by your shaper robes remaining cold and dispassionate. "Perhaps, but the slave in question is not why I contacted you, not directly - rather I am interested in locating the slaver that acquired her, the one that raided her people and sold her into the care of the Good Masters." Here you lean forward, your hands steepling before you. "I would quite like to... Acquire him so to speak, as there are certain answers that I require from him. Sadly I do not possess the information network needed to find such a man or to bring him to me - but you do. And so I would like to hire you to do so for me." Here you give a mental command to one of your thahds, the creature walking over to a cupboard and withdrawing a satchel bag, one he moves over and places in front of Fadlan before opening, withdrawing items that he lines up before the pirate.

A healing pod.

A vial of artilla acid and fyora gel.

A jar of salve and a bottle of oil side by side with a glowing jar of bioluminescent fluid.

A doze of haze.

Several jars of dye.

And a baton.

Fadlan surveys the items with a passive expression, his hands gliding over them as he asks questions about their nature and function, his face revealing nothing as he goes through each item.

Afterwards, his questions answered, he gives his own response. "What you ask for keeper is not an easy task, and only possible at all due to the nature of the slavers cargo - Westerosi alone always make an impression on the market and the arrival of ones from the ice lands themselves would have been far more so... It will cost you, but it can be done. I will expect payment within a season - if we come to an agreement."

Fadlan's Price: 100 points.
Healing pod - 10 points.
Fyora gel and artilla acid - 2 points.
Haze, 1 dose - 5 points.
Salve, oil, bioluminescent fluid - 2 points.
Dyes, 1 jar/unit - 2 point.
Baton and 100 thorns - 15 points.

Do you agree to the bargain? And what do you give him? Accepting will add the items to your priority lists top next turn.

The Healing Pods and Haze are the most time-efficient; Healing Pods provide 1 point per 6 DVP, while Haze provides 1 point per 10 DVP.
The Baton *might* be competitive, depending on whether we actually need to craft all those 100 thorns by hand. 280 DVP for 15 points would be a bit much, but if thorns come in batches, then it might be cheaper.

@Leoric, could you clarify in regards to thorns? Is the given value of production for individual thorns, or more along the lines of small batches?
