The Knights of the Vale are needed in the Vale.

Mountains on Fire

Mountains on Fire

For generations the Vale has known conflict among the peaks and foothills of the Mountains of the Moon. Groups of men from various clans that eons ago refused to bow down to Andal invaders continue to plague the people of the Vale. Lately however they are grown more fierce in their attacks and even more bolder than seen in recent years. Merchants are ambushed and killed, various villages are raided and scripted bare. Women are carried off, usually never to be seen again by their loved ones.

Yet recently things have been different. The clans are more organized, even showing a small semblance of order in how they fight. More troubling is the appearance of better quality weapons, even armor. It is clear that someone is either helping the clans or has united them enough to cause them to be a true threat to the Vale.

This is made evident when Lord Benedar Belmore of Strongsong is attacked on his own lands, while returning from overseeing several villages. Lord Belmore and his men are able to beat off the assault, leaving thirty bodies of Moon Brothers and Black Ears on the field. Returning to Strongsong, ravens are sent to the Eyrie with news of the assault as others arrive from various Lords carrying news of similar attacks on their lands.

I shall grace these proceedings with my presence so that I might see their beloved king and be reassured of his good health, looks, and grace.
My liege, I seek to attend, not compete, but attend the Great Tournament at Harrenhal by your-side. May I set up someone to temporary do my duty in your name?

I, Lord Deremond Darry, and my two eldest sons Ser Tristifer and Ser Lymond shall attend.
From: Lord Walter Whent

Lord Deremond, my daughter Wynafrei is four and ten and of age to be wed, I am willing to see her wed to one of your sons. I would hope it to be your eldest.

From: Lord William Mooton

Lord Darry, I am afraid I have no daughters to be wed at this time, but if and when I do have a daughter I hope that we might come to an agreement in the future?

From: Lord Renfred Rykker

My Lord Darry, I find your proposal to be a very good thing, would you accept my daughter Annara in the hand of marriage for one of your sons?

To Lord Walter Whent

Let there be a match between my heir Tristifer and your daughter then, alongside a suitable dowry?

To Lord William Mooton

Would you have a son then perchance who could be betrothed to my niece, Lady Jeyne?

Of course, Lord Rykker. (OOC: How old is she?)

There will be a suitable dowry, though will have to be after I tournament I am hosting. Is this applicable?

From: Lord William Mooton

I have one son, Walys, who is six and ten years of age and able to be married or betrothed. Perhaps we can have them meet at the upcoming tournament at Harrenhal?

From: Lord Renfred Rykker

Then we have an agreement (OOC: 17)

Your Majesty, I have an idea that I am sure you would love. It might even make you richer then Casterly Rock. It is a naval trading company. Imagine the royal fleet, only rather then it being a fleet of warships, a fleet of merchant ships dedicated to ensuring trade and gold flows into your coffers. Certainly a idea worthy of one such as yourself.
Amazing, absolutely amazing, Tywin make this happen and money is no object. @comradepitrovsky

Also attend the tourney, your responsibilities are not so vital that they cannot be put off the occasion.

Prince Oberyn, fresh from a fond farewell from the Feathered Kiss (and a less than fond reunion with little Obara's mother), hears at Oldtown of the great tourney and decides it would be perfect to see Elia again, and perhaps see his informal exile from Dorne ended.

Prince Doran, despite his ugly experiences as a Squire in the War of Ninepenny Kings and a knight in Essos, dealing with corrupt Magisters and running from bravos, dare not show weakness and refuse the offer. Still he is no tourney knight and comes as an observer. He leaves his nursing wife Princess Consort Mellario in charge of Sunspear with Seneschal Ricasso and seasoned Lord Tremond Gargalen, the recently appointed Castellan.

Doran brings with him Areo Hotah, Ser Aron and Symon Santagar, the sons of the Knight of Spottwood, his cousin Ser Manfrey Martell, and Ser Terris and Lady Temonne Gargalen, children of Lord Tremond. His Bannermen are free to join his party as they wish, an offer taken up by the veteran Lord Franklyn Fowler, and Ser Harmen, the son of Lord Uller (along with his daughter Ellaria). Lord Ormond Yronwood and his son Anders frostily ignore the very existence of the Prince's party and ride to Harrenhal down a completely separate path. It's honestly a lot more polite than Doran was expecting.

(Edit: forgot that Quentyn would be nursing as of the Great Tourney, so Mellario now rules Sunspear with Tremond)

A betrothal between your son and my niece is very agreeable, Lord Mooton. A meeting for them at Harrenhal seems to be an excellent idea.

I am interested arranging ties beyond the Narrow Sea, as I am sure some of you would be likewise for the Sunset Kingdoms. My youngest son, a boy of ten, will need a bride, and I am of a mind for him to visit and explore the world one day. Would any among you be wiling to offer one of your own to be his wife, and perhaps foster him when he has sufficiently matured?

May the lord of the mountain clans come forth and let justice be done upon him. Unless of course, he's a craven as well as a son of the tribe's most worn out sheep.

There's a nice spot just out of arrow range of the walls, near where Lord Arryn holds his court. Far enough for us to fight without interference, close enough that your friends don't get ideas.

A Duel in the Mountains

A Duel in the Mountains

Snow fell as a six man party left the Gates of the Moon, current seat of House Arryan of the Vale. The group rode out just far enough to be out of range of the stoat and imposing defenses of the legendary gate. The party going forth was quite the group. Ser Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully, Ser Nestor Royce, the borthers Ser Gilwood and Eustace Hunter, and young Lyn Corbray. They were lead by the young and fit Robert Baratheon, Lord of the Stormlands, he wearing his best armor and carrying his trusty warhammer.

The group did not have to wait long, for not five minutes after they arrived another small group approached, all on small garrons. Six men of the Painted Dogs clan dismounted and snared at the Knights assembled before them. One of them, wielding a large axe and leather armor, moved ahead of the rest. "I am Tirrag son of Krilor, you keep your word so we fight!"

Robert Baratheon lifted his warhammer and boastfully stepped ahead of his group. "Let us begin!" Not waiting for other words Robert charged forward, quickly closing the gap.

"TIRRAG SON OF KRILOR!" The clansmen rushed forward as well and took a swing at Robert just as he took one himself with the warhammer. While Tirrag's axe found a seal in Robert's side armor and caused a gnarly gash, Robert's warhammer found Tirrag's head. Clumping to the ground hard and fast, Tirrag lay still with a crashed skull as Robert recovered from his swing.

For several seconds there was utter silence. All too stunned to say anything at how quickly the fight had gone. "HA! Is this all you have?!' Robert bellowed, him thirsting for the other clansmen to come and fight.
One stepped out. "You killed Tirrag, son of Kirlor. I am Avor, son of Avor. We take his body back. Painted Dogs will not fight the men of the Vale."

"Bah! Fine." Robert turned and walked back to his friends as the Clansmen recovered the body of their fallen. "Let's head back! We have drinks and woman to be had! A good day!"

A hearty cheer went up and the party returned to the Gates of the Moon. Celebrating went far into the night.
