Part 4: Morning and Shujin Academy
4/10/20XX
You thought about putting your stuff on your phone, but a wave of guilt hit you, and you decided to not be selfish. These people were giving you everything, and with full kindness, to take someone like you into their home so that you may live a normal, happy life.
You quietly walked through your room and into the kitchen, washing your hands and looking through the fridge for ingredients, and pull out some kitchenware to cook on.
It was a shame they didn't have an apron so you would keep yourself clean, but at least they had some oven mittens to keep your hands from burning on the stove.
They had over a dozen eggs and some bacon, white rice that was left over from last night's dinner, some tomatoes, butter and a loaf of bread.
And, very thankfully indeed, they had some fresh coffee beans
Quickly checking if they had a toaster, which thankfully, the Nijima family did have, you went to work preparing breakfast for the morning.
Needed: Kindness 1 and/or Proficiency 2.
Passed!
Kindness EXP gained 3, Proficiency EXP gained: 2.
With the cooking skilled you gained from years of having to make things yourself, and self teaching from cook books and videos from the internet, you prepared multiple omelets for everyone, saving yourself for last.
And by the time everyone woke, form the strange sounds you were making, they were all pleasantly surprised. If not a little cranky from your cooking waking them up.
"Your making us Breakfast?" Sae said, still in the process of waking herself up as. She was annoyed but rather impressed by the amount you made. Makoto was still rubbing her eyes, but her sleepy and sluggish walk made it clear to you that she wanted to go back to bed.
"Yes." You replied.
Jiro looked a bit shocked. "You didn't have to do this."
You nodded. "No… I had to.Your allowing me into your family… it's the least I can do."
Everyone soon took a seat and you all said a silent prayer before beginning to eat.
Makoto took the first bite, and everyone else just sat and waited for a moment. Makoto than said. "This is yummy!"
With Makoto's seal of approval, everyone started to dig into their food.
Jiro made a very satisfied hum. "This is very good. Where did you learn to make this?"
"Cook books and a lot of practice." You replied with a small grin.
Jiro's face hardened, but he said nothing as he finished his food. Makoto did not understand what you had said, but Sae, once again gave you a look of pity.
When breakfast was finished, Jiro said. "Makoto, could you please do the dishes please. Sae, make sure she does them right. Than the day is yours."
"Yes sir." Sae replied, and the older sister gave Makoto a smile. "Dish time."
"Yay!" Makoto hooped as she grabbed all the dishes from the table. "Sae, sing the dish song?!"
Sae laughed. "Okay, but after all the dishes are in the sink first."
It surprised you how relaxed Sae was around Makoto. It was like whatever armor she wore dropped immediately whenever she was around her sister. It was… comforting. Maybe in time, she'll drop the armor around you.
You doubted that. You were a stranger who lived in her home, that she knew nothing about... she would probably never trust you.
But… you had to try.
This place was going to be your home.
You just hoped that it would mean you would have a family in it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were in the car with Jiro when he finally talked to you about the morning. "Why did you make us Breakfast?" He asked.
"It was something nice I had to do." You replied.
Jiro was silent for a moment. "Were any of your meals ever cooked for you by your caretakers?"
You pondered the question for a moment before you replied. "No."
Jiro was not happy with your answer. "They didn't feed you?"
You shook your head. "They supplied ingredients, I cooked meals. One of the few benefits of having no one to take care of you, is that I learned to take care of myself."
Jiro sighed. "Doesn't make it right."
You scoffed, before thinking about your words, very carefully. In the end, you just said nothing.
He was right of course, but you didn't have the courage to say it.
Traffic was thankfully light, and you reached Shujin before 9.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shujin Academy lived up to its name, looking more like a prison than a place of learning, with high concrete walls, large metal fence on the front gate, and a structure that was built more for surviving Japan's earthquakes, than looking aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
It must have been a very safe place to be in during the earthquake, you could see almost no sign of damage to the building, save for a few cracks in the pavement.
The gate was open and the Principle was waiting for you. And by the gods he was fat. The man was bald, a skinhead that seemed to enjoy watching his head in the morning so light would reflect off of it. He must have had three chins on his neck, with a scrotum to match. His beige suit, white undershirt and red bow tie must have had to be custom made so that he could wear it.
And dear gods he reeked.
"Ah, Niijima-san." Gods even his voice was annoying. "Welcome back… Are you enrolling a new student into our academy?"
Jiro looked equally as disgusted as you were at the man, but after he hit you in the ribs, a smile rose on his face. "Indeed I am Kobayakawa. I trust the paperwork I sent it was all in order?"
"Indeed it was. The extra uniforms you ordered should be coming in by the weekend." Kobayakawa than looked at you. "Now, who is this bright young man?" The way he said bright sounded like an insult, but you did your best to keep your tongue tied.
"Kamui Tankana." Jiro replied. You bowed your head in respect.
Kobayakawa nodded. "Forgive me, but unfortunately, I cannot give you a tour of the grounds. Your homeroom teacher should be here shortly to show you around and give you your schedule."
Than you saw a woman walk out of one of the buildings. She wore a yellow long sleeved shirt striped with white and red horizontal lines, a blue denim skirt and white kitten heel shoes, at least from what you could see. Her dark brown hair looked like an unkempt mess and from the look on her face, she looked exhausted.
In her hands were a few pieces of paper, along with a bag full of supplies.
She walked over with a slight trip in her step, but she caught herself and stood up straight. "Good morning." Her voice was absolutely shot, either from exhaustion, or from something else.
The woman saw you and Jiro and said. "Oh, are you the new student?" She pointed to you.
"I am." You replied.
"Sadayo Kawakami is going to be your homeroom teacher for the year, Mr. Kamui." Kobyakawa replied as he looked to her. "I hope you do not mind giving him a tour of the grounds?" his question sounded more like an order.
"Not at all." Kawakami shook her hand side to side. She then offered you some of the papers. "Here is your schedule, and a map of the grounds in case you get lost."
Kawakami gave you the tour of the school, which was thankfully very brief.
But you liked your new homeroom teacher. She seemed like she really liked her job… but something was stressing her out.
--------------------------------------------------------------
When the tour ended Kawakami took her leave from you, and you could safely say that this school was easy to navigate and you would not get lost.
But Jiro pulled out his phone and looked distressed. "Ahh dammit." He then pulled something out of his pocket. "I was hoping to give you this tonight, but here." It was a subway pass. "Your gonna have to take the train home. You remember where we live?"
"Yeah." You replied.
"GoodI I'll see you tonight, hopefully, tomorrow morning if I don't." Jiro replied, before he got into his car and drove off towards his station.
You were alone in Tokyo.
That sounds like a stupid Manga…
What should you do?:
[]Go Home" It would be best if you didn't do anything stupid and enjoy your last day off before school.
