It is something noted that the further one goes from Terra the number of Local Pokemon begins to drop off. However as humans expand and begin to colonize new planets (or even just begin working on the Terraforming Process) some species of Pokemon seem to just appear from nothingness.
There is in fact, one relatively uncommon Poison/Steel type Pokemon is known as an invasive species and are either exterminated or moved off of any planet they are found due to the fact that if left unchecked they will grow to stupidly inane sizes.
The Thresheraw
They are known for overhunting in any and all environments that they are found, with their size gorging up as they do so.
This leads them to reach sizes that make it difficult for any one trainer to deal with them, and as such it is commonly teams of Rangers that have to either knock them out or put them down.
So basically to most of the Mass Effect races the only Pokemon they've encountered is a scattering of maybe a handful of species with most likely just classifying them as unusually strong wildlife.

And in a particular stroke of bad luck, the major species of Pokemon that they have encountered are the above noted Poison/Steel, and then Poison/Psychic, Psychic/Grass, -
huh.
Looking over my notes, the majority of species I have changed to being Pokemon are native to Tuchanka.
I'm going to need to do something with that, but I don't know what.
And there a variety of different theories about how these Pokemon appear, ranging from Beliefs that have no evidence to support them (and equally no evidence to deny them) such as Arceus willing it thus it happens
To the more simplistic theories that a group or perhaps several unconnected individuals are releasing Pokemon out into these freshly Terraformed worlds without going through the proper processes in a misguided attempt to help.
Then there are the more fantastical psuedo-theories, such as the fact that during the first three months of Terraforming, there is at least one individual who believes that they have seen Mew, or in a few cases Celebi. Despite this, there has been no evidence found that these Pokemon were in the area.
Hmm... I haven't written a Codex for Legendaries yet.
I'll mention it in a bit more detail there, but there are a particular handful of Pokemon that seem to appear Ex Nihilo when humans colonize other worlds - Most notably with the most recent update, but every world that has been Colonized has a Latios and a Latias.
I wonder if there is a famous trainer that caught a Thresheraw for battling.
I'm sure there are work arounds for the eating thing, people knew about Snorlax for a long time afterall. Bound to be countermeasures.

I find the idea of someone using their pet Thresheraw to fight the Turians amusing. The Turians reactions to a species that can (and will) tame something like that would be amazing.

They just see this tiny cute little girl riding her giant murder snake into battle!
Yet the more shocking thing would be to witness her tea parties with it!
Alright, I'm currently working on the Region map at the moment, which you are going to be getting during the next update, along with a bit of information about the Gym Leaders and the Regions League, along with setting your plans for the direction that you are going to be heading out of town.
It may take a bit... Cause I'm not exactly the greatest with GIMP....

Or either Rimsgard or Chasmcrest Town to maybe stop by Obsidian Beach before going to Seven Bridges. Could stop by Alvis City too, for that matter.....
Hopefully you guys can get a vague idea of at least what some of the gyms are based on the names of the badges and the gym leaders, since I have set this up specifically so that you can hit the gyms in any order.

As I think is actually canon, gym leaders do pull punches depending on their opponent/how many badges the challenger has.
I'm excited for the Witch Badge.
Story is clearly Fairy, Normal is plainer.
Passion could also be Fire or Dragon.
Hover is clear cut Flying, but if its not that the only other things to hover are all steel and electric types.
Stepping out of the bathroom, your hair wrapped in a towel, you can't help but wonder if the thing that you are going to end up missing the most once you start your Gym Challenge is the opportunity to have a hot shower every morning.
It felt absolutely Divine to slough off all those thick layers of dirt and grime that Ashton's Larvitar had layered on the two of you with it's sandstorm during the battle. You wouldn't be surprised if the sheer amount of the dirt on you alone weighed up to five pounds, and you didn't even get the worst of it.
You didn't really notice until you got the two of you into the shower, but Lapis was covered in so much dirt that she looked like she was one of those Ganguro girls you've seen those times you traveled with your parents to go to Alvis City.
You pause - The jewel that that stranger gave you is gone. A quick look around proves that it didn't roll back further onto your desk, in between the books or off onto the floor. It's just... gone.
That is very odd. And annoying. You'll need to come back and find it after you eat lunch before you leave proper.
You down to the first floor, a smile on your face as you hear Lapis giggling at your shoulder, the little Ralts bouncing with each step you take. Practically by instinct, your hand snaps out, and you spin around the corner and into the kitchen.
「Weee!」 Lapis cries out, making your smile grow all the wider. There in the kitchen proper, you can see your father at the table, a cup of what you would guess to be coffee in one hand, and two fingers of his other hand sliding back and forth across some paper, tracing something.
"Hey dad," You call out, the man responding with a raised cup, not even looking up at you. "Awake yet?" 「Gampa」 Lapis calls from your shoulder, bursting into even more giggles when your face turns bright red.
"Yeah." He says, before taking a long, slurping sip of his drink. "Just making sure that this map is properly up to date before I give it to you." He picks up a pen, making a few small marks. "A pair of new towns have popped up since this thing was made, it'd be a shame if you missed them because you didn't know." Leaning back, the man yawns, stretching out. "Your mother's up in her room, grabbing something for ya, she'll be down in a couple minutes, and then we can have a proper lunch before you head out. Sooo..." He draws the word out, "How was your morning?"
The two of you spend a few minutes small talking, when you hear your mother thundering down the steps. After a moment she enters into the kitchen, starting a little and quickly hiding something behind her back when she spots you. That nearly goes out the window the moment that she spots Lapis, and your Pokemon's head snaps up and over to your mother at almost the same time. "Honey~" Your mother singsongs, "Is this your Pokemon?"
Thankfully Lapis seems more confused than afraid, and you nod. "Yeah mom. This is Lapis, she's my starter." It's an obvious statement, but still one that needs to be made.
The woman seems to struggle with something for a moment, before she steps over to the table. "I was hoping to get this wrapped up before you got out of the shower, but it took me a little longer than I thought to find this old thing." Your mother holds out the thing that she was hiding behind her back-
[ ][Mega] A thick, black bracelet - with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A flat, white bracelet - with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A small black bracelet with red diamonds on it - and with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A yellow scrunchie, with a pink heart shaped charm on it... one with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A fancy looking ring - with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A teardrop shaped pendent - one with your missing gem set in it!
[ ][Mega] A beautiful blue gemstone anklet, carved into the shape of Rayquaza, your missing gem set into the crest of the dragon's head.
"I went into your room to ask what you wanted for lunch," Your mother starts, "but you were already in the shower. That's when I noticed that you had gotten a Keystone, and well... you need an easy way to carry it if you are going to use it. That's when i remembered that I had this."
Your father blinks, looking up from- He's playing with Lapis. When did she get off your shoulder? "A Keystone?" Your father asks from where he is still playing with your starter, "You can't find those naturally here on Shanxi. Where'd you get it?"
"Ashton challenged me to a Pokemon battle after we got our starters," You say, "And there was this really strange guy who was apparently watching us battle. That was uhh... That was the sandstorm you saw, dad." Your father nods, "Anyways, the guy said that we had potential... and he gave me that gem, and... I dunno. Something to Ashton."
"Well then you'll probably want to stop by the Evolution Store in Mikhale Bay." Your mother pipes up, "It's the only place I know of that sells Mega Stones, or really evolution stones, in the whole region."
"Speaking of which!" Your father says, sliding Lapis off the table and into his lap, before turning the paper he was looking at earlier over towards you. "Map." He says tapping it.
"We're here, in Revlon town." He pointed to one particular dot on the map. "As you can see from the dots that have the yellow circles, our town is pretty evenly set between the four closest gyms. Two to the north and two to the south."
Handing her gift over to you, your mother moves further into the kitchen. "I'm going to start on lunch. You talk with your father and start thinking of what order you want to take the Gyms in."
Your father picks up from there. "So as you know there are eight gyms in the region. Something you should be thinking about as you go is the order that you want to take the gyms in, because they will become progressively more difficult the more badges that you have. More specifically, getting two gym badges proves that you know how to interact with Pokemon in every day life, and are ready and able to work with Pokemon in the workforce, opening up pretty much any entry level position that you could want. It is also the point at which the League challenge has a major spike in difficulty, and where a lot of challengers wash out."
"In part it's because moving on to the third gym means that you want to actually want to battle Pokemon semi-professionally, so the gym leaders are allowed to start using more complex tactics and abilities against challengers, but also because starting with the third gym, the Leaders are allowed to start using their signature Pokemon. So... let's start here at the top of our half of the Region, and move counter clockwise."
Your father points to number 25, situated at the edge of the Louzoo desert and the savanna to the north of it. "This is Dunebreak Oasis, where you can find Tara, the Ground type gym leader. She's very hard headed, and more than a little sassy. Her teams tends towards being very long lasting, preferring to win through attrition than simply smashing the opponent."
Next, he points to number 27, "This is Rivermouth Marsh, near the foot of the Louzoo mountains that separate it from the desert. This is Alice's gym, she's a nice girl, very quiet. She prefers ghost type Pokemon, you'll want to be careful here, possibly hit it early, since Ghost type Pokemon are strong against Psychic Pokemon like your Lapis here."
Sliding his finger down to number 29, almost directly south of Revlon town, "Seven Bridges. Beautiful town, built completely on the seven bridges that connect the two islands. Lumi is the Ice type gym leader, though you wouldn't expect it from how fiery the woman's temper is. Just a note of warning. Don't mention the fact that she's still single."
"Still?" You hear your mother from behind, "I would have thought she would have settled down with that Captain that always hangs around town."
"Apparently not." Your father mentions, sliding over a little as your mother starts to set plates on the table. "Next up," Your father's finger trails further down. "Southtip Farms. You should definitely stop by here at some point. Simon is not only a gym leader, but a renowned breeder as well. He specializes in the Psychic type, which on the one hand, Psychic Pokemon aren't particularly effective against other psychic Pokemon, so the battle won't be difficult. But on the other hand, Psychic Pokemon aren't particularly effective against other psychic Pokemon, so it won't be an easy fight either."
"There is something else that you might want to do when you are down here in the area as well, but I'll explain that once your father is done with the Gyms." Your mother pipes in, as the four of you start to eat.
Next he points to number twelve. "This is Mikhale Bay, the largest city in the region, and the home of Judas Priest, master of the Steel Badge. This one will be another potentially tough battle for your little Lapis, given that Steel Type Pokemon are strong against Fairy types."
His finger slides up to number 14. "This is Riverroot, the floating city. It's built out over the bay, literally floating on the waves. It is also home to the most interesting and potentially difficult gym of them all. It's a double gym, I think the gym leaders are siblings..." He pauses for a moment, but shrugs. "They are Amber, who focuses on Fire Pokemon, and Smith, who focuses on Fighting Pokemon."
"Not too far north of them is Dragon's Tooth village, where Aerial is gym leader. She specializes in flying types, but her team is quite varied as well, so it can be a bit of a challenge." He says, pointing at number 16.
"Finally, there is Ghenzi City, where Aisling..." Your mother and father look to each other. "Where... They... I think is the right term, study Fairy Pokemon. This is another city that you should definitely go and visit, Aisling's own starter is a Gardevoir, so they may have some interesting things to teach you."
"Now that your father is done mentioning the Gym, there are five more cities that you should see about visiting as well." Your mother says, as she points to numbers 34, 32, 22, 14, and 12. "There aren't gyms in the these cities, but instead a series of really interesting things called Elemental Challenges, with each of these cities having a specialist in one of the types that the Gyms, and the Elite Four don't cover." From there, you continue to talk as the four of you eat. At some point Lapis ends up in your mother's lap, where she takes time to feed your little Pokemon, smiling brightly all the way.
There is still some time before you are going to leave, but you think that you have made a decision about which direction you are going to head in at least...
[ ][Direction] Head North to Markin Village
[ ][Direction] Head East to Alvis City
[ ][Direction] Head Southeast to Chasmcrest town
[ ][Direction] Head South to Rimsgard.
Uggggghhh This turned into a huge info dump. But it gives you a bit more info about the gyms, and a general idea of where you guys might want to go. So... that's a thing that needed to happen, even if it was a slog to write.
[X][Mega] A beautiful blue gemstone anklet, carved into the shape of Rayquaza, your missing gem set into the crest of the dragon's head.

So I want to head South and make our way to the Psychic Type gym as soon as possible, mainly because they are noted to be a breeder and I want to get some advice early on with how to help Lapis's development.

Since Lapis is rather young for a starter pokemon, it might be a good idea to speak with the Psychic gym leader who also is a breeder. An anklet is also probably harder to steal.
