A Child of Noble Birth (Warcraft High Elf SI/OC)

So a few things here..

First, Syllia is now firmly in the sights of everyone who matters at the highest levels of magical power on the continent. She's definitely made an impression on Kael'thas. Her ability to fly under the radar is toast and I don't think she even noticed.

Second, eventually they're going to ask how Syllia knows what she knows. Is it some form of precognition? Unconscious scrying? I'm sure they're going to try and find out if only because her ability to know things could be very useful in the future.

Third, Syllia seems to think they aren't paying attention to her because they don't care that she's listening in. My money is on them not particularly caring because she's not going to be allowed to leave.

Fourth, Kael'thas is going to order an investigation into exactly who Syllia is sooner rather than later. It might not be in his top ten concerns but it is definitely going to be on the priority list. I really hope her mother is either in hiding or somehow managed to fly under the radar herself. If not there's going to be all kinds of interest in who might be Syllia's father.

Fifth, sooner or later Syllia's classmates are going to realize she's missing. They're going to ask questions. I can't wait to see their reaction to the fact that questions about Syllia might well end with "by royal decree stop asking these questions."

Answering in order

1. Yep, her days of coasting will soon be over.

2. Useful, yes. Maybe less so as the timeline starts to go all 'butterfly effect' on Azeroth.

3. Well it's more like she was brought in by Krasus. They assume she'll be able to keep her mouth shut. Also, when you've already told them essentially the creation myth of Azeroth (minus things she might of forgotten or stuff she thought wasn't necessary to the conversation about the immediate threat like the existence of the draenei or the curse of flesh that made humans/dwarfs/gnomes) it can be argued that anything they say will be far less damning then that.

4. He can look, but like everyone else, they will find nothing (because there is nothing). Of course the absence of evidence will just make all parties think the secret is super well hidden rather than nothing being there.

5. She's actually going to return to her classmates by the next day, after spending all night in the Council chambers in shock. The big question will be why is Prince Kael'Thas going to this lower noble child with seemingly no political connections. My money is that her being the Prince's illegitimate child will be one of the popular theories.

I think at least half the archmages there are, in some way or form, considering ways to get her to talk more about other things they are personally curious about.

More then half, but Krasus will run interference for her since he "knows" why she knows all that stuff and it would be very awkward to talk about.

Or at least, he thinks he knows why she knows that stuff.

Does that mean it's getting continued ? Good.

Always was, I'm just super slow when I write. Also the recent stuff at Blizzard makes getting invested in the Warcraft universe a little hard.

And you finally advanced the story, thought I'd never see the day. :)

And now you get to wait several months for the next chapter :)

I kid!

...I hope.

Just confusing as hell like I did not travel back in time did I? Cause I did really bad in my exams and would have been very crossed if even going back in time did not fix it.

No you did not travel back in time, I just forgot to post this chapter here for a while and thus decided to just smoosh two chapters into one.

She might not have have saved Stratholme, but the Eastern Kingdoms may still survive with the insight she has into Arthas and the Scourge's goals.

And if she can get a message to Jaina and thence to Thrall, she might be able to stop some of the destruction in Kalimdor.

Don't give up, Silly!

Unrelatedly, I'm wondering if her mentioning Medivh in her entrance exam is what tipped people off she was more than she seemed.

Mentioning Medivh did get their attention to a degree, but she really caught their eye when Krasus noticed her during her entrance exam into Dath'Remar.

As for why she stood out, two reasons.

First: It's because [REDACTED]....and thus it's perfectly understandable why Alexstrasza and Kraus want to help her. Pretty mind bendy explanation, I know, but it does make more sense.

Second: More a question then a reason. If Syllia just spilled a bunch of stuff that can/will radically change the timeline, why haven't the Bronze Dragons put a hit out on her or dragged her to their lair and demand to know what the hell she thinks she's doing?

Huh. Well, at least she doesn't need to convince anyone she knows what she's talking about.

The biggest twist of my story yet: reasonable authority figures who actually do stuff!

Perhaps they are assuming she's a dragon or something else? The unknow mage seemed uncertain about her age, and if there's anyone who's gonna discover that the Elf isn't an "Elf" it would be the council containing some of the best mages in the eastern lands. Even if they don't know her exact race they are presumely sensing something, i'd wager.

And given her vast in depth apparent knowledge on the events they received, abit abridget, would indicate she is someone high up on some totem pole out there. Though, she was still called child later by Antonidas. Either way, i suspect they think Sylvia is someone far more powerfull then what she seems.

It's more the fact she had Krasus coming in and saying 'everyone listen to her' that got them all to take her seriously. Add in that the report matches what Jaina had sent them days earlier, and either their security is horrifically compromised to the point where a student can breach it or she's telling the truth.

Physically, how old Syllia looks now? Is she fully-grown yet, as a 21-year old high elf?

Elf aging is weird and all over the place.

Going just by high elves/blood elves : In some cases, they are described to age just like humans (until they hit 'young adult' then they just stop for a few thousand years) in others, they only reach physical maturity around 60 human years and die in their 400s.

Take Valeera Sanguinar. A blood elf who was a child (little kid) during the scourge but in 5 short years grew substantially (in all regards).

Maybe she had a growth spurt. But my guess is that whoever wrote the comic just didn't realize how close the time between Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft was.

As for Syllia, she would look like an older teen to young adult (18, 19, 20 ish in human terms). And look somthing like this.

For the record, in this story Syllia will be older than Valeera, despite looking younger than Valeera.

*sigh* Damnit. Why is it the protagonist is always only half trained when things kick off in these types of stories?

Because it adds tension. Also allows a 'trial by fire' sort of scenario as all the untested students are pushed into a sink or swim situation where they have to put their limited skills to the test.

Of course, Syllia and all the other students at her school have had over a decade of the highest quality education in the kingdom. In terms of raw skill/talent, they probably out match most of the other mages of the kingdom. What they sorely lack, however, is experience.

I take Bronze dragons are the time police in Azeroth?

Anyway, I'm not exactly a lore buff, from what I know things seem to be pretty hopeful? Yeah, Lich King looks like it might be happening and all of that, but the king ain't dead, and the entire Alliance has been mobilized and notified now.

If taken by surprise there was anything at all that they managed to do, surely now they will be more than up to the task.

Just disregard the parts you don't like, and weave the rest together as required by your muse

The lore is a big issue, and I was already planning on doing that.

But the issue has more to do with all the "stuff" surrounding the IP and the state of the franchise as a whole. It's hard to articulate, but the feeling of seeing a franchise you enjoy burning as its owners try to nickel and dime the player base to an extreme is just a tad depressing.

Not depressing in that it actually affects my life, but in the way it deadens my enjoyment of the franchise as a whole.

And of course the competing theory that she's the Prince's illegitimate younger sister..

3,000 years is a lot of time to just have one child, even for elves.

Yeah. Basically each dragon group (or flight) is responsible for different aspects of the world. In this case red dragons, like Krasus who is a disguised red dragon, see themselves as the protectors of all life on Azeroth and actively interact with the people of the world. "Actively" in the sense they keep appraised of local issues and intervene when something really bad is about to happen to the world. (Fun fact, the red dragonflight's leader canonically has what amounts to a massive harem with Krasus serving as her "Prime Consort").

There are other dragon flights that have other spheres of influence and varying shades of morality, Blue (magic), Green (the Emerald Dream, basically nature), Black (Earth), and Bronze (time). It's a tad more complicated, with several other flights, but that is the gist.

Map of the Eastern Kingdoms at the onset of the Third War
Since I might have taken for granted the amount of knowledge some people have of the Warcraft Universe, I decided this helpful political map would be a nice thing to show people the general layout of the Eastern Kingdoms.

I think it helps with getting a sense of 'location' and distance when I start listing off locations and names in story.

So uh, question: if the Sunwell is powering this unbeatable, infinite-mana shield around itself and the city, how did Arthas originally get in?

Cannon is that there was a traitor magister something something Drathir? Can't remember. He was the one who brought down the shield and allowed Arthas in

In this story? *Shrugs*

Here's a link to a wiki on it. The tldr is a surprise attack, a key traitor, and a lot of ambushes exploiting the confusion during his assault.

He hasn't started the assault yet, so if someone stabs Dar'Khan Dathir to death and takes his key to a secure location that plan fizzles out.

I wouldn't be surprised if the prince has already ordered multiple different under the table assassinations, given that he's basically the worst traitor to exist in their history.

So yeah, that looks like a very, very promising lead in regards to avoiding the genocide.

Maybe they could sit one, or more, of their red dragons on it if it ever comes to a siege.

@edit: Ok, so the real snowball seems to be him coming back, killing his father and making an undead army by attacking Lordaeron from the inside. That's preventable now, so it should go a long ass way towards alleviating the problem.

@edit2: Wait, what? "Arthas, revealing the mooncrystals he had pilfered, dispelled the barrier with them, leaving Silvermoon vulnerable." That's it?

Someone should inform the elves their unbreakable barrier is vulnerable to crystal healing :V

Pretty sure the mooncrystals there are the component pieces of the three moon key, not a random material. It's something that Dar'Khan gave him intelligence on and helped him steal by abusing his position of trust.

He seems to be the answer to almost any question to the effect of "How did Arthas know about/acquire/evade X high elf defense?" From what I see in the wiki.

Oooh. As a serial procrastinator, I felt that.

Looks like our baby mage will need to actually exert herself now. She might be reluctant to make any more decisions due to how thoroughly she tossed away such a solid advantage but them's the breaks.

Now it's going to be all about saving her people from near extinction. I'm kind of excited to see how she'll shape up eventually.

Thing is... she doesn't really feel like they are "her" people? Some friends, sure, but mostly? People she doesn't care about or actually straight up does not like.

It's a genocide. They are her people in the sense they they are all high elves.

Doesn't matter if she likes them or not if something like one in ten, or one in a hundred survive. She doesn't want to roll those dice.

Le gasp! You speak madness! Such a thing cannot be borne; they must run afoul of deep character flaws or be short-sighted in areas of importance else... reason may be allowed to flourish, and worse yet, Logic take root!

I also like how the powerful and educated just were given a look at history lost as myth, at least as far as the common Elf knows, they are going to want to pump her for details to get the history books at least somewhat right. At least when their civilization isn't on the precipice of the Legion screwing with things using Undead to get their ball rolling. Curse this logic and reason again! Needless to say, she's likely considered a VIP already, even assuming they somehow believe she doesn't know more relevant or useful info.

The way she clearly stated things with the focus of preventing Arthas' fall is somewhat suggestive that if she knew more, that was the relevant priority of what to prevent, so she would likely have left more things unsaid. Though, I suspect it wouldn't just be the Bronze flight that would try to moderate what she says.

Don't forget her Red Flight sponsor here isn't some whelping, and has likely had more than a little bit of interactions with the Bronze. Though he might be wanting and able to push for more information, he would be mindful that some things might need to be kept unspoken lest they cross into territory where the Bronze would need to interfere. I feel that most would try to press her for more in varying degrees of directness regarding current and future info, where Krasus would probably more try to feel things out and press o ly where he felt safe or perhaps where his own Flights' interests might supercede his caution concerning another Flights' Domain.

I also wonder if her ignorance of the various Dragons is natural or not. Krasus was a name she knew, thus the dots were connected. Yet her mysterious mentor that has connections to him (a Red Dragon), the mere possibility that the entire Bronze Dragonflight (to wven the Whelps) would gladly sit on her to keep from derailing the timeline in a heartbeat... and she doesn't seem to even give them a thought? I wonder if a part of her has been Sealed, perhaps her nightmare self, just to prevent such a thing.

Then again, the future is going to be different simply because she exists. If the Bronze truly were protecting the Canon timelines, baby protagonist would not have survived to be found. So either a powerful patron is protecting her, a powerful individual/group has provisional say over what can be allowed for the Timeline, or most terrifying yet, Syllia's unfettered existence was already a part of this world's timelines and the Bronze are protecting her from another outside actor (Infinite?).

I need to stop speculating as mad ideas are not only percolating but refining themselves. That and thumb-typing word vomit on my phone is seriously annoying.

Once again Fireborn is going to be throughly grilled on "just where the hell did you find this girl?"

I wonder how hard he's regretting that recommendation now. This will probably be the third time he's interrogated batman style by some ninja spellblade looking to dig up dirt on silly

Wasn't he named Firebrook? And was he not dealt with already?

"dealt with", only in the sense that he's not gonna be bothering dragon lady about Silly being her student.

There's nothing saying anything about anyone else bothering him. Especially when he's the one who had the great skills to identify and refer? suggest? can't remember the word, to Dath'Remar. Prince might send some people over to investigate what signs/traits he looked for, where she was found etc. Basically, there's a lot of people who might be curious and have the power to make his life quite a bit difficult

Now that I thought about it, it could make sense in-universe, except perhaps dying in 400s. Elves are a very labile species, very dependent on the mana they consume - what types, and how much of it. It could conceivably lead to inconsistent ageing and maturation rates within the same population, like a body taking 20-60 years to mature physically being within the expected norm.

Did they really take their history and made it into children tales.

Look at my boy Kael doing actual stuff unlike his stupid father , I hope Kael doesn't lose his mind here and you know what let him hit Vashj.
