I wonder what would happen if Taylor loaded August Prince's power.

Taylor loads "August Prince"... Sophia tries to shoulder check her in the hall, stalls out and can not do it. Emma tries to pour an old soda on Taylor, can no do it. Madison tries to drop pencil shavings on Taylor, locks up and can not do it. Sophia calla Armsmaster and Piggot about a horrible new Master cape who is assaulting kids in the school. Taylor goes to the Birdcage in the same transport as Canary... SV level competency in Worm is a Birdcage level offense due to being a direct affront to Derpy Inc., I mean Cauldron.

But can they just not do it or can they simply not even think of doing that? There is a difference. If they can't even think of doing it then they would have a much more difficult time considering that they may be mastered. After all how do you identify a thought you never had? Also would they be able to report it to the PRT knowing it would lead to Taylor being hurt? The power stops chains of things happening, not just direct actions.

Pretty sure it only stops attempts to cause physical harm. You can arrest someone without hurting them (confoam probably works).

As do Futons. Nothing's better/scarier than an Angry Burrito Cat.

(And yes, I'm aware that the standard equipment is actually called a Protection Sheet, and it's closer to a really strong plastic picnic cloth. It's just easier to find pictures of Japanese Police officers improvising because there's a bit of a taboo against the pictures. One, you don't take pictures of people being arrested. Two, it seems to be a non-lethal variation on a traditional method of mob violence. Which is to say, a group of people would wrap a guy up and toss him in the ocean. Seriously. If you're interested, look it up. It's... interesting.)

First the Heromaker was necroed and then the story Updated. Now another one has been revived by the powers of the Necro. If this happens again, then this is going to become a pattern. Quick, verify it by posting on any of drich's stories.

"Events set in motion to harm him can not start in the first place. In fact, any effect where there is some chance to harm or impair August Prince can not be taken."

I'm pretty sure that means they would be prevented from reporting her. They are smart enough to understand that doing so would result in chance to harm or impair Taylor.

Can you set a plan to indirectly harm him? Like, the plan to foam everything is in that room and it is just a bonus that he was in there too.
This is kinda getting into Shadowrun territory. "Honest officer, I wasn't trying to burn the place down. It was just a paintball grenade to paint everything silver! No officer, I didn't know that aluminum oxide, when mixed with other metal oxides evenly like you would in a paint would create sometime like thermite! I didn't know the paint was flammable. It's just for a prank."

...

Actually happened in a Shadowrun game I was in. As a note, the resulting paint would probably be more of a copper color depending on the other oxide you used. Not silver. Aluminum would be the minority ingredient. Oh god why am I still typing?

This chapter was fun, but him being forced to go to highschool is jarring. If a new c53 pops up and says they're an adult, I highly doubt they can be forced to go to school. At least not easily. And with his powers, he can pass any competency test.
Not really, Weld's considered a teenager in canon, he was still part of the Wards. If he looks that much like a child, then he won't get out of going to school.
He chose this to better sell his cover, and better protect Taylor.
Ah, ok, that makes sense. I had the idea that he was complaining because the PRT were forcing it on him.

Technically speaking, Shiro was forced to go. He's a case 53 but one who can easily hide their features so the PRT would rather allow him to mingle into society instead of standing out. In this case, he looks like a child, thus he must go to school. This gives them a chance to establish a public persona that I as a cape can fall back on. Weld, at the end of the day, can only be Weld, for other C53's, especially ones that aren't joining the protectorate, they do their best to keep your status a secret, that's one of the few good things the PRT is actually good for in my opinion.

As I established close to the beginning of the chapter, I remember a little bit less than ass all about highschool, I haven't used 90% of it since I graduated over half a decade ago, most of that is either forgotten or situational knowledge at best, and yes I could eventually learn everything I needed through a combination of Uber and Miss Militia but that would take at the least a week of time, alongside the time it takes for me to apply for testing out, as well as it possibly requiring me to be older than I am (Shiro is physically 14-15, some states require you to be 16+ before you can even attempt to test out.) so while I'm here for at the very least 2ish weeks, I might as well establish myself and make Taylor's life a bit better. I chose to go to Winslow for that reason out of all the other places I could go with state sponsored funding.

I wonder what would happen if Taylor loaded August Prince's power.

Since I couldn't even remember who he was when I started this story, much less now... yeah I don't see us stumbling across that particular power any time soon, we did a search of local capes on Taylors comp between chapters 3 and 4, its why I'm able to spout off Ubers name while using his power without it seeming like I know something I shouldn't. Only local capes because Taylors internet is slow as shit so trying to do a worldwide search would take just short of forever.

As do Futons. Nothing's better/scarier than an Angry Burrito Cat.

Can confirm, I used to fuck with my cats like this, they loathed me for a few weeks afterword, I just found it amusing.

This story was never really dead, just slowly shambling along till it could get it's feet under them, just like My mother Simurgh story. I'm writing up a chapter for it now, don't know when It'll be ready as the muse for that story is a bit rusty, but it shouldn't be too long.

Oh god why am I still typing?
Because casual knowledge of explosives and incendiary stuff is fun?

Hell just throw some styrofoam into a mix of a little gas and a lot of diesel and you have a fun way to burn through things that would normally take a while. Used to smear the stuff around old railroad ties that were replaced and needed to be disposed of, it'd burn one of those in half in about 20 minutes.

The closest thing to August Prince Taylor would probably be familiar with (or have easy access to knowledge of) would be Nice Guy, and put in that lens of understanding, I'm pretty sure Taylor would 'nope' to both sets if she knew a former S9 member used something similar...

With Tinker powers & Uber, might I suggest they go for a parts hunt, while getting the lay of the city?
Why?
They need locomotion among things, patroling a city can take quite a while.
Would also profide stuff needed for other things, like a computer or so.

Basically.

Thats... Thats not how internet works...

And I'm sure the PHO wiki or whatnot would have all the information you need.

It is if you have to load each hero/villain's wiki page, page by page. I remember back in the days with dial up, a rather tame Myspace page would take upwards of 10 minutes to load fully, to load a 5 mb flash game would take upwards of half an hour. Believe me, if there's anything like pictures or video's on the PHO wiki, those pages would take a very long time to load, some of the text might be there but you need more info than-

Armsmaster- miniaturization tinker
Miss Militia - Makes guns.
etc.

I need plausible deniability to use half the cape powers I know of in canon, which means taking the time to search for them, which takes forever on shitty internet.

Once we have some time to go leach the library's internet or I can find a tinker speciality and the parts to jerry rig my own, then I can start building up a list of supers that I can copy without having Taylor ask some rather pointed questions.

At most that'll take a day or two more, the only reason we used her computer this time is that I needed to have deniability in using a bunch of the local powers.

As I said, once we have some gear and materials, then we can start being Fucking Tinkers™ Until then, we're going to be bonding over the time honored practice of beating the shit out of gun toting mooks and perhaps a small time super or two.

May I suggest coding a robin hood program like Richter's and letting it loose on the internet? A good worm like any virus doesn't need to run on her computer and can hack lots of monies for you. It's not as complicated or time consuming as coding a fully sapient AI and gets you the resources to tinker later!

Couldn't you just say you got a Question and Answer thinker power that tells you who has what powers?

Why Not load up an index page of Protectorate Heroes. Those usually have Breakdown of Name-Location-Rank-Power. And a lack of pictures.

You have to find it first.

I'm an old fart so I remember the early days of the internet. They didn't even have search engines in the beginning. You could only go to places you knew of and where those places linked too.

Webcrawler was the first search engine I found in 1995 and it revolutionized how I used the internet. Looking at it's wiki page it was apparently the first of its kind. Before that though the internet was like going to a public library that didn't have a librarian.

With the endbringers wrecking infrastructure I wouldn't be surprised if earth bet is still in the dark days of the internet.

Then she'd ask me who had that kind of power so that she could use that to look for powers that she wants to use.

Which I'll probably do when I make/leach faster internet, as I said it shouldn't be an issue for more than one or two chapters as both Taylor and I already have a basic working knowledge for just about every cape in the bay.

That's also a possibility too. Endbringers first started doing their thing with Behemoth in the latter part of 93, and with a lot of the cutting edge tech of the 2000's lost when Japan turned into a 3rd world country and any other large social centers of technology being hit by the Simurgh, it really is a miracle that the flip phone is the standard for people on earth bet when smartphones have been our standard from around 2006-8 till now.

Heck it's probably due to reverse engineered tinker tech that Earth Bet is even close to par with our current civilization tech wise.

But again, that's neither here nor there, I'm not trying to ultra power game the system, if I were I'd be hyper competent and using power combo's I just recently learned of. But no, I wrote down a list of characters at the outset of this story (sans cauldron capes) that I remembered from Worm and different ways their powers can interact. I use that list to determine what actions I can take until I can have in story justification for remembering/combining some of the other characters powers.

As I've mentioned before, my memory is shite, for stories where I've self inserted myself I use that as both my checklist and my handicap, if I have to be reminded of it now, sitting comfortably at home, then I damn sure ain't gonna remember it when I'm knee deep in the thick of it.

Or in other words, a realistic take to being self inserted, I'm not some hyper competent genius, I'm an average dude with a few good idea's and an outsiders perspective. While powerful in the right hands, I can't always guarantee I won't make a mistake. I write stream of consciousness style as realistically close to how I would act in a given situation, memory and all.

Which is, again, one of the reasons I tossed my chips in with Taylor, she's good at using powers, and gives me an in-story reason to make less of an ass out of myself by doing something wrong.

Just gotta remember that there's a few thousand other Capes out there not mentioned in canon, and plenty of minor characters...

Which I mentioned early on that I wouldn't be doing, non-canon capes I mean, it gives me way way too much leniency to bullshit answers to my problems. Oh there's fire everywhere? I'll just switch to Mr.Poseidon, Master of water and chicken shit who fled from fighting Leviathan. Controls all Water in a 1 block Radius. Canonisity? Absolute zero. Deals with my problem without me having to think about it? You betcha. Instead I could attempt to reign in that fire with Lungs pyrokinesis or freeze the fire with clock blocker until a fire truck can arrive or see if Grue's power can smother the flames, or try and put it out with Containment foam from Miss Militia's power.

This particular power gives me a kit to play with already with most of the canon capes, if I wanted to bullshit powers into existence I could have just done Power Manipulator.

How are you going to explain to Taylor why your power fails when she tries to use Battery's power? Or the Triumvirate, of whom she's certainly aware?

That his power only works for capes he knew the names and powers of at the time he triggered. Also there's an unexplained aspect of his power that it occasionally lets him copy a newly triggered cape but he has no idea why.

Actually wait... Case 53? "I don't know why it's this way. It just is."

the triumvirate are the most well known capes in the world. Not being able to copy them because you didn't know their names and powers is not an explanation that anyone would accept. Say powers are finicky and you don't know why you can't copy certain capes; because you didn't get a manual.

edit: on reflection that was a little rude, edited with apologies.

Dumbest explanation ever, the triumvirate are the most well known capes in the world. I am aware of the problems cauldron capes will cause when using my power, Taylor will likely try to copy one of the Triumvirate at some point and when that fails will probably ask me what the hell is going on. I've planned for this later, the simplest answer to that is "I don't know." "I'm a "case 53" I barely have working knowledge of an average persons life, much less any knowledge on the pure feking magic I woke up with. They don't work because they don't work, put a bookmark on it in the big book of powers that we can copy and move on."

Powers have arbitrary limits that are well known in some cases, Manton Limit being the most obvious. Taylor might question it for a few minutes but she has little reason to question my knowledge of my own power at this point after all that I have done and all that I am doing for her.
