Yes, it's that time again!

This year, we're doing a Holiday Advent Treasure Hunt!

The rules are simple. You and up to three other SVers team up and hunt down an answer to each clue. The questions, trust me, are pretty straightforward and shouldn't take you too long: we want this to be fun, not hugely strenuous!

This is the 12 days of Christmas, so we'll unveil one each day leading up to Christmas Eve (we'll give you Christmas day off, ya slackers). You'll have until January 1, 2017 to post your answers.

Every individual who completes the treasure hunt (whether in a team or otherwise) will receive a ribbon, and on top of that, we'll donate $2.50 to Doctor's Without Borders (up to an aggregate total of $1,000).

Have some fun, win some prizes, get to know your fellow SVers better...what could be better during the holiday season?

If you would like to 'register' a team, please go to this thread and make a post in the format of the example. Your team can be just you, or it can be up to four SVers. There is no advantage to playing individually, though, and you'll be at a disadvantage of not being able to spread out the effort.

And for those of you just joining us, the full list of all twelve items you have to find:

1. A Friend.
Introduce someone (or many someones) to SV! New SVers don't count against your team cap.

2. A Video Game Plushie. Have someone on your team take a picture of a video game plushie that they either own, or have encountered in the real world.

3. An exciting pen. Everyone knows LordSquishy loves pens, right? Show me a picture of the most exciting pen owned by a member of your team. Bonus points if it can do something really cool, like LordSquishy's pen that has a bubble level and a screwdriver hidden in it.

4. Another fun place to be. So we know you come here, and you probably visit SB or QQ, but I bet you probably visit another forum too, you forum-polyamorous people. Link me to it!

5. A thread that died too soon. We've all run across that one great OP which got no good replies. Find me a thread from SV's past (>30 days) that got too little love (>5 replies) and deserved more.

6. A Landmark. What's exciting about your city? Have someone on your team take a photo of something cool in the city or town where they live.

7. Your battlestation. Do you browse SV on a phone? A computer? Via a Terminator's belly button? Show us the battlestation of someone on your team!

8. A pet. Does someone on your team have a pet? Who? What? Where? Why? Show 'em off for us!

9. A memorial. We've all had someone in our lives who inspired us, someone who died too soon. Tell me a little bit (<500 words) about one of those people and why they were important to you.

10. Interesting as fuck.
I don't know what it is yet, but anything. Manage to beat @Exposure in Titanfall? Screenshot! Fall off your skateboard and have your cat finish your trick? I'd love to see it. Show me and tell me something interesting that happened to one of the people on your team recently.

11. A Good Work. Let's face it, most of the news on SV is bad. Show me something good. Find me a current news article from your town, city, country, state, whatever, that put a smile on your face and share it with everyone!

12. A new idea. Have your new, baby SVer friend (from 1) tell us what they'd like to see on SV in the new year!

To remind @The Out Of World :There seems to have been some confusion RE 10 and 11. May or may not be my fault, but both #10 and #11 are basically giving answers for #11.
Which means we need something interesting that happened to one of us for #10.
Hopefully @Takoe has something.

Ah, I had totally forgotten I had to post for day 6. So, uh...

Geneva's Jet d'eau. It, uh... throws water in the air. Because reasons.

And since I live in Paris now, here, have a photo of Montmartre from far away, but it's on a hill, so eeeeeeeeeeeeh you won't get a close up.

So, I have been summoned by @Bludflag to complete task 12, where the "baby SVer" has to tell the forum what they'd like to see on SV in the new year. Anyway...

I'm a weirdo who likes to select text as I read things, so I'd love it if there was an option in the 'preferences' section to turn off the annoying '+Quote|Repy' box that pops up every time I select text.

Also, clicking on my name in the upper right corner of the forum does not send me to my profile page. It just gives me an error page. ('You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.') I have to mouse over the name, wait for the drop-down menu to pop up and then select 'Your Profile Page' from there. That's a bit confusing and it would be nice to be able to just click on the name and get immediately sent to my profile.

Strange. Maybe it's something you need to be a full member for. Try it again now that you've posted.

Sorry to keep you this late my answers for the rest of the challenges:
8. A pet. Does someone on your team have a pet? Who? What? Where? Why? Show 'em off for us!

9. A memorial. We've all had someone in our lives who inspired us, someone who died too soon. Tell me a little bit (<500 words) about one of those people and why they were important to you.

One of the most important people in my life after the parents were my mother grandparents. They were like the second family I had. They were living at the countryside I enjoyed many beautiful moments with them. When I was little I mostly lived there and after I started school I went there during summer holidays. I have many wonderful memories both about my grandparents and about the people and children in the village. I still I friends with many of the children I made friends there. So as all good things do, my grandparents died of old age. First my grandfather after a lost fight with a disease 4 years ago and my grandmother she died peacefully 2 years ago. I still remember the phone I receive during a Monday from my grandfather telling he is ok and safe and healthy and thinking that all bad had passed and to find next Saturday that my grandfather has died.
10.
As usually at Christmas my parents buy a new natural Christmas tree. And we gather together and we put on the Christmas tree all the appropriate decorations. All the family members and relatives. This Christmas I made a very big surprise for my parents by buying the tree and ornaments myself. They were so happy with me. Doing this I removed my parents a big worry about holiday shopping and done a huge pleasant surprise to my loved ones.
I will add a picture of the Christmas tree.

My sister would love more and varied works in the Creative Writing forum(User Fiction). She complained of too much Worm fics.
Also a forum or a thread were good and interested customs / news around the world would be posted so the forum would not always doom and gloom.

Hope I completed all the challenges without any problems.

Yeah, it works now for whatever reason. Strange indeed. So I'm not considered a full member until I actually post something? What a devious trap for a lurker like me...

@The Englanderish @Susano @DocMatoi : my entry for this

My paternal grandmother was a very willful woman. Not always a positive trait, but if she hadn't been, my life might have looked very different.

When I was two-and-a-half years old, I was diagnosed with autism, and according to a further test, I had an IQ of 85. "He will never be able to live a normal life," they said, and preschool seemed to confirm that. My teacher found me to be quite stubborn, uncooperative and lacking the aptitude to do what all the other children could do. I would have to go into special education, and would probably never be able to live on my own, and that was that.

My parents were told by their friends and my family that any hope for a different result was futile. "You're a psychologist, by God," they told my father, "so you of all people should know."

My grandmother did not share that opinion. She resolutely refused to accept to write off any grandchild of hers like that.

She got in touch with an old friend, a school principal. I was pulled out of the school I attended at the time and enrolled in my grandmother's friend's school. Under the watchful eye and lots of personal care from both her and my grandmother, I ran through preschool and primary school without much trouble.

This year, I will be graduating with a Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Not bad for an autistic kid with an IQ of 85, right? ;)

Earlier in her life, my grandmother developed breast cancer. It was thought she had defeated it, but unfortunately, it returned with a vengeance when I was fifteen years old. I distinctly remember that her funeral took place in the weekend I had to study for a Greek exam in secondary school. I delivered a eulogy at that funeral, which of course my grandmother's friend, the school principal, also attended. That the kid she had invested so much time and effort in was the one to speak for her friend touched her deeply, I'm told.

My grandmother wasn't always the easiest person to deal with, but her heart was quite clearly in the right place. She believed in me when most others wouldn't, and it's most likely because of that that I'm even capable of writing up this short memorial.

She will always be missed.

For the interesting thing:

I realized sometime yesterday that I'd left my skyblock server running for almost two weeks without logging in to maintain it. With the mob grinder active. And I hadn't gotten around to putting in overflow protection. It actually degraded surprisingly gracefully - only two things actually failed, one being the random-cow-fluids milking system that you can see leaking energized glowstone into the stratosphere and the other being the tree farm that you can see wedged halfway through a harvest cycle - but I have an entire storage system jammed full of mob drops. Something like 50m items total. Also a couple stacks of octuple-compressed cobblestone, which are crafted using 98 cobblestone.

Not reaaaaally that interesting.

(the actual interesting thing would that the server hosting that world has an uptime approaching seven months, but that's not "recent".)

Hpw did you manage to spill glowstone by filling your system with drops? It's been a while since I played, but I never managed to do that.

One of the mods in the pack adds "fluid cows", where when you right-click on them with a bucket you get a bucket of some fluid instead of milk. That cow yields energized glowstone. I have an automatic milking machine that uses an "autonomous activator", which is a machine that can right-click on things, to milk the cows, then feeds the buckets off to my storage system for storage and receives a new empty bucket. That's all on a thirty-second timer. There's another mod that lets Applied Energistics hold fluids, which is where that fluid is supposed to go. The mob system filled all the fluid storage I had provisioned in my AE system with liquid experience. With the AE system full, a full bucket from the autonomous activator doesn't have anywhere to go, so it stays in the autonomous activator, which then right-clicks with a bucket full of energized glowstone instead of an empty bucket and dumps it out into the world.

Modded minecraft, folks! :V

And that is why you keep different storage for your stuff. I haven't done much AE but I'm fairly sure you could have made it so fluids and xp go to a different place.

And for our stuff...

@Oh I am slain! , @NinjaMAster , @Where'sMySword Guys, we still have two tasks (interesting thing & person who inspired you) to do. If any of you could do those, it'd be wonderful. Also, Sword the other two tasks weren't linked when I last checked so if you can't find them say so and I'll send you the links.

Day 10, for my group: @Turing Decidable @The Englanderish @Susano
I'm currently playing a game of Total War: Attila as the Sassanid Persians, and I believe I've achieved a near perfect utilization of their special ability, which focuses on puppet states:

That is 17 puppet states (Including both Roman Empires) and 5 Allies who are stubborn about their independence. All at turn 85. For reference, Attila the Hun, the bigger threat of the mid to late game, doesn't even show up until turn 100.
Extent of territorial control:

The only territory I don't control in some way are morocco, the balkans (big surprise there) and the very south of Arabia and Ethiopia.
At Turn 85.
The alternate history implications are exciting.
