šŸ² FIST OF THE SPACE DRAGON [Intergalactic Martial Arts Quest]

@weredrago2
What exactly is a Space Dragon?
A space dragon is a theoretical dragon that has transcended its status as the auspicious protector of a single planet, system, or even sector, and become the arbiter of an entire galaxy. Such a being of incredible power is not known to exist, yet it is the goal of many a space conqueror to become that "space dragon". What few dragons and other deva who interact with the public scoff at the notion of any mortal becoming one.

Necromania's Greatest Hits
Another smash hit omake! 2 XP!

>Space Dragon

A creature that has transcended its fellows. Borne of mortal dreams and starlight, the creature is as near to divinity as one could ever be. They typically feast upon celestial bodies, most commonly those about to go supernova. Because of this, the mere whisper of the presence of a Space Dragon is enough to strike terror into the very core of those still amongst the living.

Space Dragons also possess seemingly limitless energy and life force, such that should one foolish enough decide to get close to one, they will know both eternal bliss and eternal torment, driving the individual insane. It is hypothesized that if an individual manages to survive the Space Dragon's radiation, they will be inbued with unimaginable power.

Due to the mere existence of this creature being able to send civilization to its knees, any and all references to Space Dragons are to be declared fictitious.
This is pretty close to what I was gonna say. 1 XP for saying it with extra zing!

A Creationā€™s Preperations
A Creation's Preperations

Before he can get within range to deliver a death blow, Necromania raises one hand. Out of it comes a conical blast of green fire that cremates the unfortunate challenger on his feet-

Green fire clashed against blue fire as a terrified Yeren found himself on the losing end of the clash, eyes wide before-

A Toursan ran in circles, narrowly dodging blasts of fire here and there in rapid succession-

Similar scenes played out on the monitors in the lab, leaving Spectra to accumulate data on her inevitable opponent. Calculations were run, estimating and correlating levels of heat resistance to average members of the challenger's species before weighing it in comparison to her own parts before plans were formulated to plan upgrades to her hardware. Spectra's maker had gone out of her way to accumulate top of the line parts (to say nothing about the Chi Drive that powered her itself), but everything inevitably drew negative comparisons to the most powerful being in the universe.

There was nothing to do for the moment while her subroutines were running, so Spectra allowed a moment to himself to sort through her plans for when she left the planet. Searching the entirety of Forgo for any traces of her maker had taken years, and without anything but a name there were little odds of a better outcome once she reached the next planet. The most powerful being in the universe, however, had the resources to cover distances in a fraction of the time it would take for her to do the same with resources that would not normally be available to her, increasing his odds of success significantly higher than they were before. It was well worth the trade off of having to make less detailed searches on planets than he had originally calculated, even if now she would have to move her timeline from "whenever she was done searching" to a balance of digging into the planet and moving on closer to Necromania.

The television screen devoted to waiting for more challengers to face Necromania flashed on without prompting, pausing the running videos in preparation to record this new one. Spectra couldn't help a familiar spark of annoyance to filter through at the ease at which the lab switched to preparing to observe the video and the lingering reminder of her creator. Kishinami had left so many resources, so much effort left into her creation, only to leave her behind in a lab left only for her. No matter how much processing power he devoted to it or how much data she fed into it, she couldn't understand it.

If you were willing to go so far for me, why would you leave me behind?

But with the opportunity Necromania was offering, the answers she sought might finally be within her grasp. If he couldn't find Kishinami, then her search was truly hopeless.

Shaking her head to terminate her thought process with a meaningless gesture, Spectra turned her attention to the screen to observe the next challenger's attempt. Every combat was unique - a product of the crowds of wish makers charging the Phaios system in the hopes of having their own requests fulfilled.

And soon enough, Spectra would be among them for her own wish.

So. A little thought. Do you think Necromania would be up for some pre-battle banter? Or frank talk? Because all of these heroes have been all "HAVE AT THEE!" and then died shortly thereafter. Everybody asks "how dare Necromania?" but never "how is Necromania?".

No one ever asks if Necromania is lonely! If he could use companionship! If he...

...incidentally, is Necromania single? There's more than one way to take over his galaxy.

Unfortunately the marriage option character was outvoted by Tong Bei. That doesn't mean that voters will be dissuaded from attempting to wed the tyrant anyways, or at least lean in that direction occasionally.

Speaking of, it would be kind of funny if Tong Bei ran into someone with just that ambition. Just someone gung ho on marrying Necromania and being Very Serious about it. The challenge is going to attract all types.

As an aside, Necromania has a fantastic theme of death and the undead, 100% on point. There is no deviation from it, as even his home/base is made out of clean bones. This is someone who said "my thing is death and more death" and set out to cement that idea in reality. Also that name makes me think of WWE, with some guy screaming "And here he is! Necroooomaaaniiiaaa!" Literally every time.

A Creation's Preperations
Good omake! Even though she lost the character vote, it seems like Spectra is still out there with a chi drive and a dream.

You gain 1 XP!

@weredrago2 What can you tell us about the Space Mafia, using 1 XP to get whatever you can give about them beyond what should already be known by Tong Bei In Character.
"Beyond what Tong Bei would know" for this would cost more XP, and you don't know what she knows yet. As such, I'm going to go ahead and elaborate on what the Space Mafia are first.

There are two separate criminal entities in the Wugant Sector that are commonly referred to as "Space Mafia": The Cervani and the Kleshas.

The Cervan Cartel (or Cervani) are a sector-wide syndicate with a long rap sheet and the blood of tyrants in their veins. It's generally believed their progenitor was a military order from the now dead planet of Cervan that took to the stars and mutated into a hybrid of bandit nobility and corporate raiders. In the present day, the Cervani run rackets, drug trade, and planet dealing across Wugant with relative impunity. Anyone can join as a low-ranking Horn or Hoof, though only those of Cervan ancestry can be elevated beyond the rank of Branch Manager.

Their leader is allegedly Cyrus Cervani, known philanthropist and planet trading mogul, though none of the accusations stick.

The Kleshas, on the other hand, are more opaque. No one knows where they came from, per say, though their reach extends at least as far as the Cervani do. What they do is pretty straightforward, though their methods are also clouded in mystery. It's said on the streets that they use black magic to facilitate their crimes. A leaked internal document confirms that the Kleshas are the largest employer of ninjas in this sector, though the person who leaked it hasn't been heard from since. They're a criminal organization that contacts you, and not the other way around.

The organizing body of the Kleshas are rumored to be a band of powerful warriors called the Venomous Five. A particularly recurring legend states that the founders are all dragons, mortals who became ashura, or fallen deva. What's the truth of the matter? Who knows?

So. A little thought. Do you think Necromania would be up for some pre-battle banter? Or frank talk? Because all of these heroes have been all "HAVE AT THEE!" and then died shortly thereafter. Everybody asks "how dare Necromania?" but never "how is Necromania?".
Necromania is perfectly fine with discussion that he hasn't heard a million times before. Imagine if the first thing people did when they met you was accuse you of murder or burning down their village, or some other horrible crime.

Just because Necromania probably did it, it doesn't mean he can't get exhausted by people bringing up "old news" like he'd remember it.

No one ever asks if Necromania is lonely! If he could use companionship! If he...

...incidentally, is Necromania single? There's more than one way to take over his galaxy.
I don't think he's seeking that kind of relationship. Or at least, he doesn't make his private life known to the public.

I had the wrestling theme in mind when I wrote him. He's larger than life, and as such loops back around to being about a whole lotta death.

Necromania: "For you, the day Necromania graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."

While I can't say it'd influence anything at the moment, I plan to tweak the rules to reattribute perception rolls to Agility rather than Spirit. This is as perception corresponds to reflexes and physical awareness, while Spirit is more about endurance and emotional awareness. This is unlikely to change anything on your ends.

The next round is in progress!

ROUND 2 - SECONDARY, 1989
It's been roughly a phase since Necromania's "Take-A-Wish" Challenge shook the Wugant Sector to the core. Countless warriors whose prospects went as far as they could swing their fists realized the only thing between them and their greatest desires now was a jacked necromancer king. Any of those desperados who assumed Necromania was all bones under that set of all-bone armor were in for a major shock. Then they died.

"You know, it's a real shame," you say as you watch the highlight reels with Horse. This was rat meat money well spent, if it means you can get a preview of your opponent's powers.

Onscreen, Necromania rearranges a Torusan's skeleton into a grotesque armillary sphere and serves it to his minions like a depraved volleyball. It's hard to tell if the loser is still making noise as a ball, given how they had to heavily doctor the audio to reduce the "soul-rattling" effect of Necromania's voice.

"That these people throwing their lives away chasing a suicidal fantasy?" Horse provides.

"Nah. It's a shame I can't take these bozos on before Necromania zaps them. The last thing I want to do is make my way to the top by
default."

"Of course," grouses Horse. "What are you gonna do next?"

The Challenge lit a fire under you. Not one of those weak fires that burns paper and barely tickles your skin. A real atomic flame that stars fire off when they're about to go supernova.

"Gonna do some training. Maybe take another crack at that garbage kraken." As
Nercromania's Greatest Hits concluded, a new program started up. "The Dragons of Wugant: Where Are They Now? Boring! Pass."

You lob the remote to Horse and jump out your window, a rat sandwich in your mouth for eating on the go.

"Gotta assert dominance! See you later!"

FIST OF THE SPACE DRAGON
ā˜… ROUND 2 ā˜…
šŸŸ” PLANET FORGO, XANTHOS SYSTEM, SECTOR WUGANT šŸŸ”
SECONDARY PHASE, YEAR 1989 OF THE INTERGALACTIC CALENDAR

You have 4 time slots to assign to actions for this phase. You can assign any number of actions to any category, though you can only assign a time slot to an action once.

ā˜… GALACTIC ACTIONS ā˜…

šŸ„Š MIGHT ACTIONS

[ ] MIGHT - Hunt Crime
TN 20
Forgo is a steaming pile of (among other times) crime and iniquity. Kung fu hustlers and shakedown martial artists are a cred a dozen once you leave the "safe" zones. Their preying on the weak makes them easy to spot. Beat the gangsters up, and crime might quiet down for a bit.
Reward: Local violent crime is reduced, technically speaking, in the form of you reducing it.

[ ] MIGHT - Fight a Garbage Kraken
TN 25
Garbage krakens are big monsters that burrow through Forgo's middle and bottom layers. They supplement their diets of trash with unsuspecting victims. Anyone can scare off a garbage kraken with a missile launcher; hunting one with your bare hands should be a good challenge!
Reward: Dominance over apex predators of Forgo is established. You could take some home for dinner, assuming you have the stomach for it.

šŸ’Ø AGILITY ACTIONS

[ ] AGILITY - Visit Forgo Heights
TN 15
While the vast majority of the planet is a steaming pile of you-know-what, the highest peaks of Forgo are host to elevated stores and high-rises called the Heights. This is also where you'd find the space port, once you're ready to head off in search of new planets to take on.
Reward: You become more familiar with the Forgo Heights area, including the shops, locations of interest, and characters relevant to your mission.

[ ] AGILITY - Explore Garbage Heaps
TN 15
Every major company in Wugant drops their industrial waste at Forgo, when they aren't parking scrapped vessels down for the shipbreakers. Most of the trash that falls into the Heaps is completely worthless, but every now and then a dumpster diver finds something worth the effort.
Reward: Heaps are canvassed for trinkets of interest you can keep or sell.

[ ] AGILITY - Delve into Forgo Depths
TN 20
On the opposite side of Forgo Heights, the Depths is even more dangerous than the middle districts. They're full of freaks and mutants. No one goes down there, unless they screwed up so badly that lying low on Forgo's surface wasn't gonna cut it anymore. Bring a gas mask!
Reward: Like the Heaps, the Depths can be delved for lost treasures and new creatures to fight.

šŸ§  INTELLECT ACTIONS

[ ] INTELLECT - Research Forgo
TN 10
You've been on this planet for most of your life, and yet you don't really remember a lot about it beyond what you've seen and heard in person. Street knowledge. As much as it irks you, it wouldn't hurt to break out the library card and brush up on the details about this rock.
Reward: Refresh yourself on the planet's history and general features.

[ ] INTELLECT - Look Up Forgo's Planet Boss
TN 15
Who even is this guy? WHERE is he? You can't leave fist-shaped holes in the rest of the Planet Bosses if you can't strike the Boss of Forgo off the list first. Researching your foe should also give you a general idea of their strengths and (if any) weaknesses.
Reward: Learn at least baseline information about the Planet Boss of this world.

[ ] INTELLECT - Take a Piloting Course
TN 20
Until they start making roads and rivers long enough to cross planets, there'll always be a demand for spaceship pilots. Take a course, pass a test, and you can get off this trash can whenever you likeā€¦ once you have a ship with which to do that.
Reward: You gain a private space piloting license, which should certify you for flying most forms of spacecraft. Trying to operate a spaceship without knowing how to fly is ill-advised at best.

[ ] INTELLECT - Analyze Necromania Footage
TN 25
You splurged a bit to buy Necromania's Greatest Hits on pay-per-view. Most of it is disheartening, to say the least. The guy seems unbeatable for now, but with all of the footage of his fights online, there's a chance you can glean something useful from them.
Reward: Opportunity to learn something substantial about Necromania's combat abilities and fighting style from recorded footage.

šŸ’œ SPIRIT ACTIONS

[ ] SPIRIT - Look for Work
TN 15
No more kitchen duty for you. You're tired of wearing fireproof hairnets! Time to get a REAL job where you can be paid to beat people up. For money!
Reward: Successfully ask around for a job that can make use of your services, which will become available to perform the following round.

[ ] SPIRIT - Ask About the Planet Boss
TN 15
Now that you've loosened some lips, it's possible to ask around for information about the mysterious so-and-so you need to beat up to prove yourself capable of climbing up the ranks.
Reward: Information about the Planet Boss is obtained, if colored through the lens of others.

[ ] SPIRIT - Call Out the Planet Boss
TN 20
You know the fastest way to start a fight is to make some noise. Talk big, and then get ready to parry the oncoming hit. The key is making enough noise that they have no choice but to get off their high perch and do something about it. Then, you hit 'em hard enough to knock them down.
Reward: You initiate the first boss fight right away. You'll receive double the reputation boost if you call them out and win the battle, though the opposite holds true if you lose instead.

[ ] SPIRIT - Start a Gang
TN 25
It's been a while since you ran a gang. Like, a year. Two years, tops. That was all small time. If you're going to rule the galaxy, you'll need a lot of mooks. Put the word out that you're recruiting the best of the worst for your new gang, and that this time, you mean business.
Reward: Start a gang, granting a floating +1 die to miscellaneous actions on this planet.

ā˜… PERSONAL ACTIONS ā˜…

[ ] PERSONAL - Attribute Training
Hit the gym! Hit the books! Be better, do better. You can train up your mind and body, though without any extra space or special equipment dedicated to the task, your results may vary.
-[ ] Might
-[ ] Agility
-[ ] Intellect
-[ ] Spirit

Training Progress
Might 3 āž” 4: 00/??
Agility 3 āž” 4: 16/40
Intellect 2 āž” 3: 00/??
Spirit 4 āž” 5: 00/??

[ ] PERSONAL - Style Training
Raw force isn't always enough. You're limited in how far you can refine your techniques without a master to guide your learning, but even a little training will go a long way to improve your effectiveness in combat. Style training will clarify which attributes are rolled per style.
-[ ] Alkane Ape (Agility)

Training Progress
Alkane Ape: ??/??

[ ] PERSONAL - Hang Out with Horse
Horse is probably worried you're gonna do something crazy. Take some time off from your new goal in life to let him know you know exactly what you're doing. Or play video games.

ā˜… TRAVEL ACTIONS ā˜…

These are actions that relocate your character to other planets and sectors of interest.

[ ] TRAVEL - Cenotaph, Xanthos
You heard that they're offering free flights to Cenotaph for anyone willing to put in at least a phase of work with HXMC. A change of scenery might help your training, assuming you'll have the time between shifts in the power jade mines. Then again, a little bit of jade can go a long way to forging an epic weapon.

ā˜… BATTLE ACTIONS ā˜…

[-] BATTLE - FORGO PLANET BOSS
I can't find them! Come out here and face me, you coward!
Locked until you can figure out who the Planet Boss is and where to fight them.

ā° THERE IS A 12-HOUR MORATORIUM ON THIS POST. ā°
TIME REMAINING: Mar 14, 2023 at 7:00 AM

ā˜• Howdy! I now have a Kofi! ā˜•

This is probably something we want to do down the line, even if the DC's high.

If we plan on fighting the Planet Boss, this definitely feels like a requirement, if less so now thatā€¦

We have an option to get off Forgo. I feel like the Power Jade is not as easy to get as it sounds because everyone is definitely already going there. It's also presumably locking us there for at least a turn and an action, so we'll probably wait on that

I think this is pretty much where I stand, if I were to make any change it would be finding a place for Style training, possibly in place of fighting a Garbage Kraken again, but as stands I expect I'll probably be voting for this.

What Moves in the Shadows
What Moves In The Shadows

The Secret Sanctuary of the Secret Society of Order
Location: It's a Secret (Shhhhā€¦!)

Upon a planet hidden in the deepest reaches of space, deep within the most secretive corner of that planet, deep within a building that would appear quite ominous if it were not hidden away from the universe, a band of wizardly monks gathered within a chamber hidden deep away from where prying eyes could find it. They stood around a circular table of stone, each one near indistinguishable from one another. Each stood wearing a plain brown robe, all features hidden behind an obscuring cloak, their hands likewise hiding all that could be hidden underneath brown gloves.

Aside from one with a white beard that flowed from with the darkness of his hood, the only feature present to tell any of them apart from a distance was the staff that each carried, designed and crafted to the wielders specifications, complete with a unique glowing aura that sat near the top.

"I bid you tidings of welcome, my brethren." Said a man with a staff carrying a green sphere. He held his staff up as he spoke.

"Tidings of welcome, Brother Vine." Said the other seven in unison.

"My brethren, Necromania has made a critical error." Brother Vine said. "The time to make our move has come."

"I'm afraid I'm out of the loop." Said a woman with a staff that glowed of yellow. "You will have to enlighten me."

"I likewise have not yet heard of what might justify this claim." Said a short man with a staff whose light glowed of swirling grays.

"Have you hiding been under a rock?" Asked a man with red-lit staff.

"Of course I have." The short man of the gray light replied. "I live under rocks. Where else would you expect me to be?"

"My apologies, Sister Thunderclap, Brother Boulder." Brother Vine said. "We speak of Necromania's challenge."

"He has challenged us?" Sister Thunderclap asked in shock. "When? How?"

"No, not us." Said a deep-voiced man with staff sporting a faint teal light. "His sector. His entire sector."

"It's that accursed 'Take-A-Wish' Challenge." Said the man of the red staff.

"Take-A-Wish Challenge?" Brother Boulder asked. "Now this I have to hear."

"Necromania has grown bored." Brother Vine explained. "He seeks a challenge. He's grown tired of being untouchable. He issued a challenge to the whole of his subjects in the Wugant Sector."

"Whoever so can defeat him in single combat shall be granted a single wish." Explained the deep-voiced man of the faint teal.

"And now he is swarmed by challengers that throw themselves to their death in search of quick and easy gain." Said a woman with staff light of gold.

"Indeed." Said Brother Vine. "Yet therein lies our opportunity. For in the face of that which can never satisfy him, Necromania has recklessly granted us the opportunity to move against him."

"How so?" Asked a man with a blue-lit staff. "Even in opening himself to such challenges from his subjects, how are we to penetrate his sector? I fail to see how we are to exploit this challenge as opportunity."

"Do not be fooled." Said the man of the long white beard, his staff carrying a light of dark purple glow. "Brother Vine does not mean to move against Necromania directly."

"What other means is there?" Brother Boulder asked.

"Brother Discord is correct." Brother Vine said. "We need not confront Necromania ourselves. Rather, we seek a champion to fight on our behalf."

"I see." The man of the blue light said. "A clever exploit of loophole that Necromania himself has crafted."

"Too clever by half, Brother Aquarius." Brother Discord said. "It flirts far too much with chaos. I should know."

Brother Discord gave his staff a heavy tap against the ground. His staff glowed bright, and for a brief moment his fellow wizardly monks could feel a certain air of what could best be described as 'wrongness' in the air.

"It is as they say ā€“ nothing ventured, nothing gained." The red-staffed man said.

"So you would dare propose we recruit a minion to send to his untimely end?" The gold-staffed woman questioned. "I hadn't realized this had grown so personal for you, Vine."

"I propose no such thing, Sister Solaria." Brother Vine replied. "I have no intention of sending any challenger to his death."

"Obviously we would train such a challenger first." The red-staffed man said.

"Exactly." Brother Vine said. "It is as Brother Napalm said. We shall find a worthy candidate. This candidate we shall then train and mold into a champion who can successfully accept and conquer Necromania's challenge on our behalf."

"A risky proposition nonetheless." The man with the faint teal light said. "To enact such a plan would be to play a dangerous game indeed."

"You are not wrong, Brother Hail." Brother Aquarius said. "But what better opportunity has ever presented itself? What better opportunity will ever present itself?"

"We will know when the time comes." Brother Discord said. "Necromania is a man of great power, but also of great flaws. Even this challenge is a clear display of that. Necromania begins to crack. His end will come. If not from this challenge, then from his next ill-planned move. But we can not join him in short-sighted action."

"Should we not consult with the rest of the Order?" Asked Sister Solaria. "Can we truly make such a decision of our own accord?"

"We stand as the Grandmasters of this Society." Brother Napalm said. "This council ā€“ this core council ā€“ we exist for the express purpose of making such decisions."

"Indeed." Said Brother Hail. "For good or for ill, a decision such as this falls upon us."

"It was the Council of Grandmasters who brought us where we are today with such a decision." Brother Vine said. "It now falls upon this Council of Grandmasters to make such a decision once again. It thus falls upon us to decide if we wish to exploit this opportunity that Necromania has given us. And if so, how."

I feel like taking the Hunt Crime action, which invovles fighting gangsters, has a chance of improving our chances of establishing our own gang later. Garbage Kraken gets a rematch because either we win or we establish a hilarious trend, both of which are good.

Hanging out with Horse should be a step in unlocking his sheet, and getting our first official team member. More Action economy.
