"So, I think I figured out the watch," you say to Glenn and Max, sitting in one of the two seats in the Rust Bucket. Glenn sits opposite of you, while Max stands next to the table, between you two, listening to what you have to say. "I press the green button, and this... green cap jumps out. I rotate it until I find the thing I want, and then I press it, and it turns me into one of ten aliens."
Glenn looks at you. "Then we need to take that thing off of you as quickly as possible."
"Take it off?" you scoff with laughter. "Nah. This is just fine. A watch that lets me have superpowers? I can live like that!"
Glenn looks at Max with a deep, slightly worried expression. "Grandpa! You saw what happened. These... things... they attacked Mel. They wanted the watch. We have to do something about this."
Grandpa considers his words, thinking with fingers on his chin. You look at him with grit teeth, hoping he'll say you can keep it. Then again, it's not like you can take it off. They should know that by now. You look at Max, who seems to have made up his mind.
"I think we need to figure out what it does first. It can be used as a force of good."
"Yes!" you cheer, standing up with your arms in the air and with your eyes narrowed.
"But..." Grandpa says, interrupting your celebration. You open your eyes, calm down, and sit down. Max continues: "The watch is not a toy, Melissa. You must use it responsibly, and try to figure out what it does."
"Promise!" you answer excitedly. We all probably know how this is going to turn out. The horrible truth is that you will misuse the watch for selfish benefit. What kind of kid your age wouldn't? Oh, right, Nerd McGee and Dull McPlain wouldn't do that, probably. Who knows, actually? Maybe they're not such perfect, A-grade student good boys they paint themselves as?... Nah, that's very unlikely.
You look at the watch, which is still red.
"We're going to D.C," Max says. D.C? Well, that's better than Bellwood. Oh, are you tired of that old city. It gets really dull to stay in one place for so long. Max walks over to the front of the Rust Bucket. Something is off in his tone, but you disregard it as just shock. It's not like this happens daily, after all. By 'this' you mean obtaining ownership of suspicious alien objects and being attacked by red drones from space, and beating then with the same alien object that they were looking for.
Yeah, this was definitely interesting.
Glenn looks at you. "So, any idea whether or not the drone things attack us again?"
"Maybe," you answer, shrugging. "If so, then we need to be..." You smile smugly.
"Please, no," Glenn pleas, but to no avail.
"On...
watch." You raise your wrist as if shoving it into his face.
Glenn groans. You laugh at your dorkiness.
What do you do for now?
[] Go to sleep. You want to catch some shut-eye.
[] Try to figure out more watch functions. Maybe figure out how long it recharges, or estimate what else it can be used for, etc.
[] Play board games with Glenn. That whole, neat DnD thing isn't your story, but it's as good a thing to do as any, when waiting.
[] Write-in.
