Virtual Reality Civilization

Heroes are BS.

We gotta get ourselves one. Maybe Swordlady will help us recover that 500 Gold Watchtower. Speaking of 500 Gold, the guy's city state will be paying for that, along with their independence.

[X] A horse you ride on gallantly into battle.

I know there's an invisitext option, but I want our very own Red Hare! Set the battlefield aflame with our demonic mount!

@GilcuruLend Please pick a background so I can pick a vote I think is appropriate.
The second background option is what I'm going with, though I may make some changes.

I know I said I was going to update last Saturday, but first I was waiting for a tiebreaker vote and then I forgot. I will have the next part up within a few days whether or not there is a tiebreaker though.

A Dream of Magic
[X] Plan We're Poor So Let's Instate Some Taxes, Among Other Things
[X] Practice forming magic
[X] Join a research group in trying to research fighting skillz.
[X] Join a raiding party to attack traveling NPCs of another city so you can level and gain money.
[X] Theodore
[X] Announce an information bounty. "Information on: significant figures within other cities; the locations of notable constructions of other cities; notable movement of players from this and other cities; the notable developments in our understanding of magic, construction, weaponry, etc. and the usage thereof; methods of garnering experience; the location of significant resources; and in general anything which might significantly impact the Kingdom will be rewarded proportionate to that information's value. This reward will be given to the first three people to provide/confirm said information, with the reward being distributed dependent on confirmation thereof, or at the ruler's discretion. The value of said information will depend on: the novelty of the information, the capability of the information to provide a clearer view of the world, the ability of the information to enhance the actions' of the kingdom, and so forth. So speaks your King."
[X] Set an amount of land available for 'farming', which is a way players can get money. Equal to 1% of the money they get goes to the city. NPCs hang out near farms.
-[X] 20 squares of land.
-[X] 10 squares around Vil1. 10 squares in the space on the western side of the river between Prares and the watchtower.
[X] There must be some way to utilize magic in fighting other than just making weapons.

[X] Dream of magic in the real world

You are in an empty white room. "Hey you finished that spell yet?" Your friend asks.

"Not yet but I will." As you reply you finish off the enemy you were fighting. You are now queen. You are wearing a great golden crown. "Bow down to me!" You wave to the crowd.

"Sounds fun." A teen wearing loose clothes as a floppy wizard hat tells you. "I don't think I will though. How about you make me your court wizard though?"

He is a challenger. You shoot at him with your bow. "Ah-were-toh!" He replies and with a swish of his hand your arrow turns away from him and harmlessly hits the soft ground. "Well that was rude."

You get a brilliant idea. "You will be my court wizard. You will help me be victorious." He seems to sigh. You look at the green grass of the park. You-

"Well this is better." He mumbles to himself. "You heard that?"

A young boy fell down and is on the ground. You hear "Yah-ki-o ig-nis". A fireball heads toward the boy. You could stop it, but only if you stop it with yourself. You decide to-

Your alarm clock rings. You get up, groggily remembering that strange dream. Time to begin another day before you can play Virtual World, you guess.

[X] Practice forming magic

After most of the day, you log in and you decide it would be best to practice your skills with magic. Meditating would be nice after a long day, anyhow. You walk to a training building and enter a room. You sit in the center and begin to meditate. You focus as individual wisps of magic swirl around you under your control.

One forms into a miniature horse, galloping across the air, reminding you of horse riding. You continue making various shapes for a while. You feel that you have gotten better at this, now.

Practice forming magic: 69 + 5 (Good willpower) = 74, Req Roll 15 = Success
Magic Control: Low, 1/5 —> Low, 2/5

[X] Join a research group in trying to research fighting skillz.

After leaving the training room you decide to join the research group that is researching what you had earlier asked them to do. You walk over to the research building, which is a large white building with a curved roof. You enter it, and see that it is split into two sides; a large empty space and a large wooden table with chairs and people.

"Hey! What's up, your going to help us? Cool!" A teen wearing too-large wizard robes and a wizard hat that is way too big on him jumps up from the table everyone is sitting at. He adjusts his golden monocle and procedes to punch the air with magic coming out of his fists. "I'm Alatar the wizard."

"Yes, I decided to try research out since I am the one asking for it after all." You go over to the table and sit down. "What do you have so far?"

"Well, we're trying to find out if we can do any magic spells. Like, making a fireball and throwing it at people would be really cool!" Alatar sits back down.

"I don't think that is really possible. Magic can't actually change into anything else you know, it just stays blue and semisolid. Fireballs are impossible." Someone else grumpily said.

That gave you an idea. "Why don't we just throw magic like a fireball then?" You walk over to the testing area and form magic into your hands. You then push it forward and it explodes into the floor in front of you.

"See? I knew my idea was great! Thanks Alakhai!" Alatar runs over to the testing area, magic gathering around him before he even reaches it. He points his hand to a test object and a large ball of energy forms before blasting it to pieces.

You stay and try to figure it out a little more, and then you leave.

Researching: 90, Req Roll 70 = Success
Research Roll +10, +$50

[X] Join a raiding party to attack traveling NPCs of another city so you can level and gain money.

You go decide to join a raiding party next. You need to level so it seems to be a good idea. You reach the Eastern gates where a small group of 3 people has already formed.

"I see you're here today. Ready to go a'killing?" Brenda asks you from where she is standing.

"Yes, I'm ready to fight some NPCs." The group starts to get moving, so you follow along. You head east, towards the other city as they will likely have NPCs wandering around there.

Luck: 65, Req 10 = Success
You find a group of 7 NPCs

After wandering for a while you spot it: NPCs. Unmistakable due to their bright teal clothing, they stand a few dozen meters away.

"Alright, we need to be quiet about this so they don't run away. One the count of three, attack." You whisper to them, getting your bow out. "One, two, darn it Brenda."

Brenda Sneak: 9, Req 20 = Failed

You are interrupted by Brenda trying to sneak up to them, but loudly cracking a branch. They all turn towards her. "Oh well, CHARGE!" She yells as she runs up to stab one of them. You aren't far behind, already shooting one in the chest instantly killing it. The other two aren't far behind either, with one throwing a self-made spear at one and the other going forward with a sword.

Brenda dodged a slice by an NPC and quickly hits back, killing it. One is about to hit her from behind but you quickly pull back your bow, magical energy gathering in the shape of an arrow, and release hitting it as it stumbles back. One of the other players walks in front of you, so you jump using magic into the air, and while in the arrow release another arrow hitting the NPC on the shoulder. As you begin to fall, you take your sword and aim your fall to go directly on top of it and strike it, making it fade away.

Meanwhile after you stopped that NPC from attacking Brenda she stabs toward an NPC with a bow, breaking the bow. It tries to punch her but she cuts its fist in half. She finishes it off with a slice to the head.

You quickly pull your bow back out and shoot another NPC, killing it. You look around and notice the other two players have finished off the other two NPCs, leaving the short battle finished.

You: 3 kills (Lvl 2, 1/4 Exp —> Lvl 3, 0/9 Exp)
Brenda: 2 kills (Lvl 1 —> Lvl 2, 1/4 Exp)
2 Players: 2 kills

"Good job, looks like we've got all of them." Brenda sheaths her sword and walks towards you.

"Let's head back then." You lead the group back west, to Prares.

[X] Theodore

You decide to go see Theodore again and find him at the fake library. It is a large, two floored building with pictures of scrolls decorating the outside. You enter the large double door and see him at a table.

You walk up to him but he doesn't notice. "Hello, I'm here. What's up?"

"Ugh, can you just go away? I'm trying to focus." He groans and lays his head on the table.

"No, I want to talk to you." You are about to say more, but he gets up and vastly walks out the library. Hmph, how rude.

Social Link Theodore: 2, Req Roll 60 = Crit Fail
SL Theodore 0 —> SL Theodore 0, Req Roll 60 —> 70

City Actions

You head back to your throne room next, to make some city decisions. You sit down, but before you can get started a player comes up to you.

"Thirty players from the city of Evans attacked our watch-tower. It was a complete surprise, but thirty of us happened to be there to defend it because we all wanted to check the watchtower out." He explains the rest of the battle to you, leaving you lost in thought. So they have a hero now, hmm?

Attack on watchtower:
Watchtower destroyed
12 of Prares players killed
24 of Evada players killed
20 Prares NPCs killed

Next you decide to look at your own actions. You decide to make an information bounty so that you will hear of useful information sooner. As such, you make a public announcement that will appear on everyone's screen as they log in.

You also decide that if you are going to be paying people then you need more revenue. One of the features of the game is that the king can set farmland for people to farm as a sort of mini-game to get money. You set ten squares of land around the village, since it is still relatively safe, and then near the river to hopefully get improved production out of it.

The NPCs who will build it immediately get to work, and the UI notifies you it will be built by next day.

Finally you check in on your research that you requested. You know there must be a way to fight using magic, so you had a team research it which you personally helped.

Research Magic Slinging: 39 + 10 (Personal success) = 49, Req Roll 30 = Success
Magic slinging is now an option. This is where one manifests magic and shoots it at an opponent, which can be very powerful and fast.

Finally, you decide to log out. You enter a virtual log out building, and leave a real world building to go home.

Prince Action:
[X] We live on a river. Can we make boats?
Research boats: 10, Req Roll 60 = Fail
You still cannot build boats.

Prares NPC kills by players: 19
Prares NPC deaths: 16

AN: A little info on crits since I'm sure you're wondering about how I will be doing them: in order to get a crit you must roll at least 95 before modifiers. An Omake bonus would mean it would have to be at least 85 because it would add 10. Crit failures are 5 or below.

For the dream sequence, you guys picked the most interesting one. It is meant to be a dream though so if it doesn't make sense then I did something right. If you choose the other options I would've just written something random and that would be your first ability if you ever become a hero, though that's not to say becoming a hero is not an option, and the invisitext would've given you information that you definitely wouldn't understand without context from later on. Hense it being invisible.

Well, our Social Link rolls bombed two times in a row now. We should leave Theodore be and give him some space for a turn. Then, we can go back to trying. But just in case, let's work on finding his replacement. That Alatar guy seems more in line with our interests.

We had our Watchtower torn down, and we know people can cross the river from the north and the south so let's build them up to annoy the Evada people, and focus on harrassing them more. Also, we have farms to the north so protecting that's important, and if we attract their Hero unit and get to kill him when we intervene next turn, that would be great.

We've lost more NPC's than we've gained this turn.
11 +16 v 30 + 19

@Hannz Maybe we should use one action to forge ourself more armor? We get 3*level, iirc.
Also, the other nation built 8 farms near the river.

Shops give us Level 5. Armor though, so that'd be a wasted action. That and I want us to finish our Magic Training first, see what bonuses forging items can get from it.

Enemy farms are way too far away from our territory and way too near their city for us to strike with a clear escape route. Until we get boats/horses so we can strike from an unexpected angle and then swing back out speedily before getting caught, I'm not risking our Kingship to Theodore the D-bag.

Speaking of Theodore, what in the world is he spending his 1 City Action on anyways? It's been several turns now, and I can't really recall anything.

He's done research both times.

It's not a wasted action because it's saving money, which we don't have enough of to buy anything worthwhile with.

Oh. The map actually shows where the farms are. Interesting.

If you want to finish the Magic Training consider dedicating 2 actions toward it? But, well, gaining power is equally nice. And I am SO PISSED AT THEM!! My villagers! My money!

We'll replace the items we make now two turns later when we finish Magic Training with hopefully some bonus to the equipment we make so it really feels unoptimal.

Thinking about it some more, we could accelerate that process to finish by next turn if we give up on Social and 1 Raiding Action.

so much magic jeeze
but okay

I mean, we don't have any pressing issues in Social that we can solve this turn, buying equipment is a no no due to funds, and creating them is for when we finish Magic Training, so why not finish Magic Training now and move on to full attack next turn?
Yeah, and this will actually finish our training which is nice.

I want us to keep it up 1/turn afterward, however.

You mean you want to keep Magic Training after we level it up? I'm planning to keep Training next turn, but it'll be doing it for Sword instead so we have complete and utter dominance in melee and not just in range.

We'll be @ Medium Magic Control, not High or nothing.
And Magic is useful for making armor, making weapons, making horses, fighting, etc.
It's just a far better investment than swords.
