Keyblader Apprentice Quest (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep)

Something to keep in mind during these trials is that how we choose to complete them is almost as important as completing them is. Considering how early in the quest this is, our choices might have a large impact into how our character will grow.

[x] Card Captor

Not everything has to be solved by the sword. Let's use diplomacy first.

[X] Ask the brooms to let you pass.

----[X] If that doesn't work try singing to soften them up.
-----[X] If that still doesn't work then combat may be needed

Trial Secrets

I'll also occasionally add something that you can do on side during a trial that's unrelated to actually completing it but can be of benefit if you can figure it out...those it's usually only in the less time pressing trials such as this first one.

Asking
[x] Asking

"Hey." You ask to the closest broom. "Can you guys let me pass?"

A broom steps forward and shakes it's head indicating that no, you cannot pass.

"Is there a way to get permission so you'll let me pass?" You'd rather avoid a fight if you can, Yen Sid never said that this trial needed to end in violence after all.

The broom that stepped forwards earlier points to one of the officers on the upper floor.

"Ok thanks!" You say as you wave goodbye to the brooms. "Good luck guarding that door!"

The broom waves goodbye right back as one of its peers behind you gives you a thumbs up.

You have to admit, these brooms are surprisingly polite for a group of mundane objects animated by magic.

The next floor up is more of a labyrinth of book shelves than anything else. You have an easy enough time getting through it, but you guess that this wasn't some sort of puzzle challenge. Yen Sid could have easily made it one if all his bookshelves looked like this. You do make sure to avoid the larger brooms however, as you don't want to risk a fight. Luckily, it's fairly easy to do so since you can see them above the majority of the bookshelves, not giving you all that much trouble.

Eventually, you come across one of the 'Officer' brooms that you saw from the bottom floor earlier.

"Um, excuse me." You begin somewhat nervously. "I need to get through the door on the bottom floor. Would you mind getting the other brooms to let me pass?"

The broom looks at you for a moment and then bobs its head up and down in affirmation. It then proceeds to take out a keychain with approximately six keys on it and gestures for you to follow it. Not much happens on the second floor after that. The broom does stop for a moment to grab a multi-color book from the wall, but after that is done it quickly gets moving again.

Back on the bottom floor, you find that nothing has really changed. 'Well,' you suppose. 'I guess that's only natural for a trial room after all.'

The Officer broom walks up to its assembled brethren and waves its hand, causing the assembled force to split down the middle.

It then walks down the center of the parted Broom formation, waving for you to follow it as it does so. 'Man these brooms really are polite.'

Slowly but surely, the Broom works down its chainof keys before eventually settling on one and putting it into the lock.

And then, everything goes white.

When you open your eyes, you find that you are once again within Yen Sids office.

"Very good, Scena." Yen Sid congratulates you after giving you some time to gather you bearings. "It's been a while since anyone took the…diplomatic route within the confines of the trial you'd been given."

Moments later Mickey appears right next to you…. looking a little downtrodden.

"Wow." You comment as you blink. "Now that's timing if I've ever seen it."

"Mickey." Yen Sid's voice is stern…but not strictly disapproving if you're reading it right. "You may not have succeeded in the trial you had been given, but I cannot count the years it's been since the door burdened someone with that trial on their first journey through it. Rest assured that you did an admirable job."

"Gee, thanks Master Yen Sid," Mickey rubs the back of his head as his voice lifts a little. "That really means a lot."

"The two of you have both shown admirable qualities in your trials." Yen Sid looks to you. "Scena, you took the route of diplomacy and avoided any unnecessary conflict." He then turns to Mickey. ""Mickey, you've shown yourself resolute in your defense of innocents, even in the face of unwinnable odds. I want the two of you to reflect on your trials as well as the meanings of the items you've gained from the Chest for the rest of the day. Your first day of dedicated combat training will begin tomorrow."

Both of you bow to Yen Sid in respect before leaving the Office.

Yay! A whole day off!

What do you do with it?
[x] Go down to the Library - you want to try see if it has any spellbooks that could help you.
[x] Go down to the Library - you want to try see if you could find anything about…fairies.
[x] Go the yard outside of the tower - it's time to get some practice in with your Keyblade.
[x] Go talk with Mickey. He's your fellow student, you'd like to get to know him better.
[x[ Go examine your sheet. You want to see if you can improve on it in any way.

OOC: One again thanks to my beta he's a huge help. Also fun fact if you'd stopped and read some of the books you'd have he potential to learn three spells some of which may have been more advanced then the starting trinity. You still did great of course, but take it as an example of the bonuses I was talking abou earlier.

@undead frog, before I vote, I have a question. Namely, what versions of the spells are you using? For example, is Fire a homing projectile, or a swirling ring around the caster?

I expect the last choice is between improving our general magic, obtaining racial bonuses, improving our sword skills (not that kind), bonding with Mickey (this one's kind of obvious), and improving our song magic.

An AOE is a nice start.

Yeah, not being tricked by others sounds like it would be great.
[x] Go talk with Mickey. He's your fellow student, you'd like to get to know him better. Plus, he might be able to help you get the hang of your Keyblade, because you suck with it right now.

Talking with Mickey
[x] Talking with Mickey

"Hey Mickey!" You call out to your fellow apprentice, "Do you want to hang out? We've got the time to."

"Sure!" Mickey replies happily. It's nice you that your fellow apprentice is so friendly, since you really don't like being alone. "What do you have in mind?"

"Just hanging around on the grass outside the tower." You smile and then take a quick glance around the tower, further solidifying the enormity of the entire building within your mind. "This place is big, but I've only started living here recently so I don't know what we can even do around here."

"I'd be fine with that." Mickey answers, his voice just as high pitched as it's been the entire time you've known him. "My body's still kind of sore after that last trial anyway."

Well, he was stuck with a trial 'too intense for a first timer', so you can't really blame him for that.

XXXXX

The Mysterious Tower is a strange world, even when something isn't within the tower itself. The first reason that opinion is that changes location often so in many cases it can be found either directly hovering in the void between worlds or in some cases attached to another world, ironically becoming much harder to reach in the latter cases as one can only access it using a specific method within the world that it's become attached too.

However, among the many worlds it stands out for one other reason - the place is basically surrounded by trees and other planet life, but the Sun is never actually out. No one but Yen Sid himself seems to know how those plants manage to keep themselves alive, though you think it has something to do with magic or the planet's ambient light. Actually, that one could be plausible as far as explanations go, since despite there being no Sun out to illuminate the land, the entire place seems to well-lit and easy to navigate.

"This world really is beautiful." You comment to Mickey as you sit down and look up the stars. "I mean I don't want to wax poetic but there's just something so wonderful about sitting down and looking up at the night sky, letting all of your worldly worries melt away as you contemplate the great cosmos above."

"Yeah it is." Mickey adds as he walks up next to you and sits down as well. "Back on my world, I used to sit down and watch the stars with Minnie all the time. It's time like this that make me miss her, but I like them all the same…. Hey Scena…, do you have anyone back on your home world waiting for you?"

"No." You say as you wrap your arms around your legs and pull them closer to yourself. "I mean, the people of my world are far from mean or cruel… it's just that we took a long time to bond with one another. Midnight Town is so close to the Realm of Darkness that people need to be protected most of the time, or they run the risk of being ambushed or betrayed. It's not that no one wanted to meet other people and get to know them, they just couldn't under the circumstances."

"Oh." Mickey says, looking down in shame. He shouldn't beat himself over this, he couldn't have known that your old home was the equivalent of a slum amongst the many worlds. "I'm sorry… I didn't mean to bring up bad memories like that."

"Don't worry about it." You say, coaxing your arms from around your legs and letting them fall to the side. "I've gotten used to it."

An awkward silence falls between the two of you.

What do you say?
[x] "… do you have any favorite songs?"
[x] "So this Minnie person… do you like them?"
[x] "I've been wondering… how did you meet Master Yen Sid?"
[x] "Mickey… is your world nice?"

OOC: Once again thanks to my Beta reader, it really is a help.
