Tousen may have had slightly more authority than Barragan, but that didn't make him more useful/important to Aizen. Tousen was just more loyal and easily controlled (also the only one of Aizne's subordinates not under his illusions, so placing him higher on the pecking order mitigated an unnecessary headache).Komamura gets more points for actually keeping at the job even with his Bankai on a personal level to me.
Wasn't Tousen Aizen's left hand man? I'd say he distracted an important ally of his. Especially how helpful he'd be against the Zero Squad.
On the note of the Zero Squad I was actually disappointed with their performance all given, that guy had it in the bag until like a dumbass he explained to Ywach his power which thanks to the 'almighty' power the Quincy Emperor was able to then counter it.Barragan would have been way more useful against the Zero Squad. Literally the only thing that was able to hurt him was himself. The amount of bullshit that guy just shrugged off was staggering. Tousen, on the other hand, actually became weaker once he transformed. He gained the ability to see and immediately left himself open to a lieutenant. Not even a captain.

So was Omaeda, however, do remember how much focus we've put into Hoho in our studies and remember just how fast Ichigo learns when he has the motivation to.
Also, politics and favours.
Edit:
An overly large knife, like in canon. It's right there in your quote.
Are we sure it isn't the smaller knife like Zanpakuto that he gets near the end of the series.
Pretty sure Overlarge describes as Big.The underground training room is scarred, a massive trench cut down its middle. The wisps of spiritual power left over from the attack that caused it still linger on your sword's blade. It's an overlarge knife now in truth, the blade angled like something used to gut or fillet meat, black all over except for a bright angled edge. The handle lacks a real hilt, instead just being steel wrapped in cloth.
He doesn't have a proper handle and the bottom is covered in bandages. Unless I'm misremembering the second Shikai, the small knife doesn't look like that. Are we sure it isn't the smaller knife like Zanpakuto that he gets near the end of the series.
I'm pretty sure that had more to do with the fact that they invaded the Seireitei than Ganju being a Shiba. I don't think Byakuya really cares that much. He's just super zealous towards murdering criminals the fuck to death.Well, announcing that we're a Shiba will make things easier at first, but will also give Byakuya a murderboner the size of at least five trucks, making them even more difficult later on. The one time he met someone in canon who used the name, he gave him a 1000 Cuts treatment, and would've killed him if he hadn't been interrupted by Ukitake. And that was towards a guy who wasn't even a combatant, much less a threat. I'd rather annoy a captain than make another (future?) one despise my very existence.
Bit hard to see that especially since this part of the story is at way waaayyy earlier before the Turn Back the Pendulum arc. Most people would have certainly forgot about it.Byakuya is really big about not releasing his blade unless he actually needs to, and even then holds back (not using his arms, his bankai having two more advanced forms that he only pulls out in special occasions, etc). It's a sign of both his opponent's ability and his respect for them to release his blade. Sure, he could kill Ganju with his unreleased blade...but that would reduce him to the level of common rabble. Ganju was a Shiba, so he elevated him to a level beyond his combat capabilities out of sheer respect.
Bya-kun is also tsundere as fuck. It's hard to cut someone in half and not kill them. However, using his shikai to cut Ganju up is actually less absolutely lethal. Because he doesn't want Rukia to have to watch another Shiba die in front of her, he just messes him up real bad, makes him look all bloody and whatnot, and leaves no excuse for anyone to summarily kill Ganju instead of capturing him and executing him later when Rukia wont have to watch (glossing over how that's because she's dead).
You always have to dig a little to parse what Bya-kun's real motivation is. His stated motivation is almost always, at best, a half-truth, because at heart Byakuya isn't a stoic, law abiding, heart of stone type. He's really a deeply emotional, hot-blooded, blood knight who is pretending really, really hard that he's a paragon of soul society nobility.
