Hmm. We're probably already risking Isshin's neck, no need to push his luck. Taking the Shiba name could possibly lead to someone finding him out. On the other hand, I don't think Kukaku would have brought it up if she thought it would endanger him, so maybe she has a ready made excuse?

Well this is the simple option, but also the stressful one. It could go rather poorly as well.

However, the third option is right out. I'd rather not have to choose between joining the 2nd division and offending Soi Fon. Also, that sounds like the political intrigue route. Which, uh, no thanks.

So.

If we take the Shiba name that could bring scrutiny to our living family and Karakura town.
Its known that Ichigo was a living person who died and was sent to Soul Society via Shinigami.

So unless people what to take the chance of Isshin getting caught and executed via central 46 lets stay Kurosaki.
 
... that is not what we voted for. At least not what I voted for. The way the update is written makes it appear to we are just telling people left and right without them even having to ask that specific question. "Do you have Shikai?" ... we are just telling them. I am... very displeased that my vote was ignored like that. Lets be honest, no one should have asked if we had shikai.

Without OOC knowledge that leap in logic is pretty much impossible to make.

We quite publicly want to go to the living world to check on our family. If we change our name to Shiba with the blessing of the Shiba Noble family, well, people are going to start to put things together and remembering that Shiba captain who misteriously vanished in the world of the living some couple decades ago. And, good excuse or no, he very much went AWOL.

On the other hand, Ichigo really resembles the Shiba.

Like the difference between Ichigo and Kaien in character design is literally a different hair colour, and our shikai is close enough to our father's that Kukaku was able to truly link us as family after seeing us use it.

While people didn't put two and two together in the manga/anime, if we take the Shiba name, well, we'll have the name connecting us to the Shiba's making it more likely to guess that we are somehow actually related

Shikai being similar+ Looks near exactly like one of the past members + outright taking the Shiba name will undoubtedly raise flags.
