Bleach: Derailed

Isn't Ichigo's zanpakuto always like that even from the start since he had all that spiritual power and wasn't so good at controlling/suppressing it?
It was really big from the start, but didn't look like a kitchen knife until he learned its name, so I'm not quite sure.

[X] Accept Takako's offer.
I like omedidas family their weird but likable plus the familiarity to help remind us what we're striving for

[X] Take Gin's offer.

If Ichigo is serious about getting out as quickly as possible, Gin is absolutely the guy to know. I mean, he was called out as the fast graduation record holder just prior, AND a captain already. Noble houses can theoretically just get you out of the academy without graduating at all, but Taco probably doesn't have that kind of pull, since she's still in it herself.

She's still a good friend to have.

Also, constant-release swords are a thing, even without knowing their names. See Kenpachi. Weird, but a thing.

[X] Take Gin's offer.

Ichigo was just thinking he needs to get into Gin'd good books. Spitting him in the face by taking a later offer to help with the same thing seems pointless and inconsistent at this point.

I'm actually leaning toward Gin, but I'll vote Takako to hopefully make it possible to switch if the preview reveals something really heinous.

Sure Ichigo wants to qualify as fast as possible, but either way works, and honestly?

He could do with making some friends here, he's determined and he stands out but the fact is Ichigo is a nice person. He's inevitably going to get some ill will going his way from his general attitude (and not respecting the whole noble system), getting some goodwill by working well with others and having good friends and allies will improve his reputation.

And reputation is a big part of getting a decent position and promotions, pure skill/power helps but if that's all you've got it'll work against you.

Helps that we see in early canon that Ichigo isn't actually the braindead shonen hero he is in later canon, he's intelligent and moreover he knows how to actually put the work in. (23rd academically in his entire school year)

An Ichigo that can actually work with others and (as he never did in canon) who learns some kido to broaden his skills would be very nice.

Might be. He's a captain, so he has to have some level of reiatsu control. But he does activate it without knowing its name, and it's not a stretch to assume that before he learned control, it was a constant release.
Nope. Like, there is no ambiguity here, Kenpachi's sword is not released. You can tell this by the fact that it's a sword and not the gigantic axe that his Shikai is.
