Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

Arianne and the Sand Snakes have retired Prince Doran. There'd be another front if they had failed - or if public support had rolled too strongly in favor of war.

@spudman's plan addresses all my concerns and handle them in a more equitable manner, so I'm changing my vote to his plan.

[X] Plan: From Seven Kingdoms, One.

@spudman: However, I would add something that came to me - make sure Yohn Royce has good scouts and guides for the crossing the Riverlands to the Neck, and the same for crossing the Neck and the North. He might not know the area as well as others, which is not good if someone plans to ambush them.

Sure. I'll add that in when I can. If we don't have the Northmen to spare from Robb's retinue I can make that part of sending word ahead to houses on the way. 'Yo, we need guides.'

Could we get a chapter on that please? I think it'd be cool to see the Dornish at each other's throats and Dorans realisation that Arianne and Tyene slept with Robb and serve him now

I don't know, he might actually be a bit proud at her initiative and pulling off an effective plan. Plus he has the excuse of a coup to just accept retirement and relax.

Anyway, on the subject of scouts for the Northern force...should we send the Blackfish and the Crannogmen North?

I'm also thinking over the idea of whether Robb and the Dawnguard should go North or stay South.

Did they sleep with him, though? I thought we voted for Dacey to remain with us in the tent.

Keep our scouts with us, or at most send them only up until The Neck. We're the ones missing two armies. They know where the Wildlings are* - they're north of the Wall, and they're coming south. If they're one great host, they're easy to find, if they're small raiding parties, they scour the land for them. In any case, Ned and our bannermen know their land; but we can't say the same thing for us. For just about the same reason, we should keep the Dawnguard with us. We're in a central location; if it turns out the Wildlings, Golden Company and Ironborn are attacking the North, we can head there relatively quickly; but if we go North and find out the Ironborn are in the Reach and the Golden Company in Dorne, that would be more of a problem.

*On a jungle island ruled by their king, Max.

That was the winning vote, but there were a few different interpretations and assumptions about what would happen if that vote won.

Charcolt never clarified what actually did happen.

I don't think it really matters unless somebody got knocked up.

Steering discussion back to the current vote....I think I should specify where the force for hunting Aegon is gathering. Storm's End is not a good place to organize a fleet. Probably Dragonstone or close to it, or maybe Maidenpool.

Robb slept with them, straight up. As to why this might be relevant...

...Yeah.

o_O Were there some rolls I'm not aware of...

Aren't we inviting Tyene back to us?

Also *looks at Ned and Cats massive brood of seven* dat Stark fertility.

I mentioned consulting her and Arianne about any agents or contacts they might have. Maybe get someone to poison Aegon.

I didn't specify them coming in person. Maybe I should specify consulting them by raven...

Awkward as it is...they probably can help.

Oh, shit. Something else just occurred to me. Arianne wouldn't be aware of Gerold Dayne and his backstabbing tendencies, would she? I suppose I could have a note that he shouldn't be in charge of any Dornish force, but Robb wouldn't know that either.

Sorry for the double post, but a few things...

Gerold Dayne is a potential problem, especially if he happens to be selected to command a Dornish force. But I don't want to drop the Dornish troops. This is supposed to be uniting all the Kingdoms.

Ideas to curb that?

1. I specifically note that he cannot be selected. I don't think this will fly because Robb, nor anyone else I think, really knows about the Dorkstar being a treacherous shit.

2. I drop the part about commands based on realm. The individual lords would have their own levies as is normal, and then there's the overall commander (Royce, Tarly, Tyrion). I actually might do this anyway. It stresses that in they're a larger army rather than smaller armies from each Realm.

I favor number 2, myself. But does anyone else have ideas?

Other things....

I previously mentioned whether I should specify consulting Tyene and Arianne by raven or just leave it undefined. Thoughts?

Also, where to build up the 'Hunt for Aegon' force. Near Dragonstone (but not on it), Maidenpool? Somewhere else?

Well...going by the wiki, Darkstar has a well established reputation as a shit. Imagine that. Arianne underestimated just how much of one he was because he's good looking.

So, I think we can prevent him getting much of any influence, even among the Dornish contingent of wherever he goes, so long as we don't have the lords from each region suggesting the leaders of each force.

@Charcolt , I don't suppose Robb might have happened to hear anything about this Gerold Dayne''s reputation? Enough to give an IC reason for Robb to veto him leading any group?

If not...I'll probably go ahead and take out the leaders by realm. Lords and knights would bring their levies as normal and there will be a commander (assigned by Robb). It's probably better that way, anyway. Though I think I would add urging each overall commander to include voices from all the kingdoms in their council.

Or we could assign 'realm' leaders for each attack force ourselves. But I'm not sure I even know enough names, let alone actually competent people to fill those spots.

For the assembly point for the Aegon Hunt force, I'm thinking either Maidenpool or Duskendale.

I think I'll leave it undefined if Arianne and Tyene provide their assistance in person or by raven. If they need to be in person to do their job...they will be. Even if it it's awkward for Robb, it's worth it to find Aegon and even possibly get him assassinated.

The comings and goings of some random lordling in Dorne aren't really the concern of a king at war. I do have a Dornish omake in the works.

I'll try to post that tomorrow. This vote can close here.

Dammit, was working on the changes I mentioned just now.

Edit:

I might as well post the version of the plan I had been tweaking, even if it doesn't count. I was waffling on doing more or not, but in the end I didn't change all that much.

[X] Plan: From Seven Kingdoms, One.
-[] The Seven Kingdoms will remain a united Realm. The previous victors can forgive, and those that once fought against their rightful King, Stannis, can regain their honor and pride by fighting for King Robert II and Queen Shireen, and defend their homeland alongside their fellow Westerosi against those that would threaten them all.
-[] Send those ravens to Winterfell and the Wall. What exactly is going on there? What do they need? Let them know you're preparing a relief force as the ravens fly.
-[] The relief force for the North and the Wall will consist of approximately:
5,000 Riverlanders
10,00 Valemen.
5,000 Stormlanders
2,000 Reachmen
2,000 Dornishmen.
2,000 Westerlanders.
Bronze Yohn Royce is to command the entire force. Upon joining with your father or the Watch (whoever they contact first), they will follow Lord Stark's orders and/or work with the Northern forces and Lord Commander. Try to remain in contact with Winterfell and the Watch as they travel. There are reports of a huge wildling army coming to cross the Wall; their mission is to stop them. All the while, advise Royce to be mindful of the (albeit unlikely) possibility of the Golden Company landing on the east coast. And while the Iron Fleet has not reappeared, they could show up again any place or time. If you do not have scouts or guides that know the North to spare, then send ravens to the lords the Northern relief force would meet along the way and let them know they could use some guides and scouts that know the lands.
-[] Send word to Tyrion Lannister. It's in the interest of everyone to investigate the Iron Islands and figure out just what the Ironborn are up to, and act accordingly from there. Lords Velaryon and Mallister will be sent to offer their direct assistance (for their naval expertise, the latter knowing the Ironborn as well, and to make sure the Lannisters are playing ball).
The forces sent will include approximately:
1,000 Dornishmen.
2,000 Stormlanders
2,000 Riverlanders
1,000 Reachmen
1,000 Westerlanders
5,000 Valemen
This will be under overall command of Tyrion Lannister. However, depending on how things go this can be a diplomatic mission as much as it is a show of strength (/force if needed). Keep that in mind if trying to talk to the Ironborn...though also keep in mind it would be Ironborn that they'd be talking to...
-[] The Hunt for Aegon:
Your remaining force will be held in reserve near Duskendale to deal with Aegon, or any surprise that comes to Westeros's shores in the meantime as he is being tracked down. This force is comprised of approximately:
25,000 Valemen
8,000 Riverlanders
8,000 Stormlanders
3,500 Dornishmen
3,500 Westerlanders
3,500 Reachmen
Lord Tarly will be in command of the armies and Davos Seaworth in charge of the naval forces. Of course, you, Robert Stark II, will be in overall command. You cannot move your forces to chase after Aegon (or the Iron Fleet if necessary) until you know where they are. Send out 'trade envoys' to gather information on where Aegon is, or any word on the Iron Fleet for that matter. Consult the Manderlys, Lord Velaryon, Tyrion Lannister, for any contacts they have, trade related or otherwise. Desmera Redwyne would do well to prove her loyalty in a similar capacity. Tyene Sand said she would serve you however she could to get revenge against Aegon. Seek her and Arianne Martell's assistance in finding information on where Aegon is, and perhaps getting someone to poison him with any luck.

I think it gives the Commanders more authority and makes the armies more united. But maybe it wouldn't have actually made a difference. *shrug* Was hoping for a bit more time and discussion on that.

@Meneldur sorry...I said I would add a bit about guides before but it slipped my mind. It's in this version.
