Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

Anyway, y'all really distrust me for some reason. If this was a trap you could always just steal an escape elephant after beating Aegon unconscious with that golden skull stick.
I don't think it's a trap. I just don't want to humor the man who burned down an entire city and our father-in-law. Nor do I want to even acknowledge him as a legitimate political entity as opposed to the monster he is.:mob:

They didn't actually start the fire. Oh sure, they would have later on, but you can't say they actually did it. And if Aegon is a fake you can't really pin Aerys putting the wyldfire there to begin with on him.

Anyway, I'm not asking for mercy for ANY Targaryen or Blackfyre here.

But there is clearly a plot hook available here. Let's see what it is with the truce meeting. THEN we can kill the Targs/Blackfyres.

As for risk, again, we would be closer to our camp and it would be suicide for Aegon.

Per the QM, even if it was a trap we could get away. This really doesn't feel like a trap option.

It's IC to suspect that it is a trap, but OOC we all know that it's not one. I maintain my opinion that it's IC for Robb to blow off FAegon's attempt at a parley, but going to it wouldn't be suicide-by-targaryen.

It could be IC to see what F!Aegon has to say if there's a chance of surrender and sparing his people attacking an entrenched position manned by the Golden Company.

Or he could simply want to meet the guy he is about to kill. Or any number of reasons.

If it wasn't IC it wouldn't be a vanilla option offered by the QM.

And in the update Robb also thinks a trap is unlikely for reasons similar to what I mentioned.

Sorry for double post, editing is a pain on phone.

I'll also note the QM rated my previous post insightful.

This probably isn't a trap (even if it is we can get away). We're being offered a plot hook, but not being railroaded onto it. Go for the plot. Murdering dragons is fine but we can do that later. We only get one chance at this meeting and what we can learn from it.

You didn't read my post very well. I said I thought it was IC not to meet, and that there were IC reasons to validate such a stance. I explicitly said that OOC we all know for a fact that this isn't a trap option. I still want meeting FAegon to lose, I just don't want it to lose because people made incorrect ssumptions about it.

GM ratings don't mean shit for the validity of choices. They mean the GM appreciated something you said on some level.

You said there were IC reasons not to meet Aegon. Part of my response was to make the case that it is also IC to choose to meet Aegon. Either choice can be IC, so the IC argument is pointless unless you're talking about a write-in vote.

As for QM ratings...you're right, it can't be counted as confirming anything in particular. But as a general rule I think it's worth giving posts that get that rating from the QM a second look, no matter who posted it.

We're being offered a plot hook

I don't want the plot-hook and while Charcoalt isn't railroading, Sufficient Velocity is predictable when it comes to quests. Always vote in favor of talking, always decline the timeskip and have things move at a slower pace as a result, etc. SV will likely vote in favor of whatever he's offering unless it's something pants on head retarded.

ftfy

I don't see how you can say 'SV will likely' (as if it's some kind of singular entity, but that's a whole other argument) vote in favor of the plot hook when it's currently losing. The option that has us going straight to killing Aegon is currently winning.

So your assertion has no basis in reality right now.

I'm making arguments for the vote I'm backing, but there's a serious lead to the other vote.

But if the numbers do turn around, or they wind up in favor of talking in some later vote, don't go saying 'typical SV'. That's just a cop-out of an argument.

Edit: As for slowing things down...how many updates do you think the truce meeting would take, honestly? The next update would probably be the meeting and would end in us either accepting the terms or not and/or proposing our own if there's any negotiating to be done. Then either things are resolved or we fight. Or perhaps both.

Not really much of a cost time-wise, even if we just say 'fuck it' and kill dragons anyway.

Hm, so a bit more time...

Meeting Aegon isn't a trap. We'd be closer to our camp and it would be suicide for him. If that was anyone's reason for refusing the truce, please reconsider.

If you're just not interested in the meeting itself...fair enough, I guess. But it will take all of one update for the meeting itself, then we can decide what to do from there. I want F!Aegon to face justice as well...but shouldn't we find out more about what's going on in the Golden Company's camp first? There could be something important we're missing.

Huzzah, eleven votes to go.

Or if six of the people who voted for declining the truce switch...

Like Molyneux said, we can kill Aegon after we meet him. It's a slight delay and we could find out something important. Perhaps something that would save us some trouble.

In any case, find out more about the plot hook, then we can fight.

Vote closed! Holy crap there are a lot of you.

As an aside, this meeting would not have been a trap or legitimized him and his claim, and would cost nothing beyond adding a few new choices and learning more about the situation. Choosing to indulge your murder boner, however, occasionally has unforeseen consequences. Onward, ho!

22. 'The Battle for Westeros'
"Thoroughly underwhelming, Stark." Theon had a wide, smug smirk, one that left you wanting to punch him in the face even though you knew he was a frustrated as you were. You had almost had them. Almost.

"That's 'Your Grace', Greyjoy." As Olyvar finished removing the last of your armor, you stormed off leaving them both staring at your back. Fuck. You had sent Aegon's duck knight running back to his master as you prepared your army to march. With a smaller army and your own tactical gifts, victory was almost assured.

And then a freak mudslide had thrown you from your horse as you led the march, catching your foot and horse alike in knee deep muck. Disgusting you could handle - Arya had stuffed your bedding with dung more than once - but the lost time had allowed Aegon and his men time to load into their fleet. Stannis' royal navy had failed entirely to stop them in their retreat, and now you had no fucking idea where they were.

Just lovely. If this was an act of the gods, you were going to murder your way into heaven and castrate the lot of them. Envoys could be sent perhaps, to all the Free Cities to let them know how the Crown of Westeros would regard the harboring of traitors. You could not afford to be caught in some long and bloody southern quagmire. All the rumors from up north suggested that the Wildlings were on the move. Your home needed you.

But you had claimed the Iron Throne. As an object it may be molten scrap, but the idea of it was all that was keeping the Seven Kingdoms together. Leaving to reinforce the Night's Watch and North could see the Seven Kingdoms splinter. That was Robb, not Robert. Even now Stannis' knights urged you to make for Storm's End, to wed Shireen Baratheon (the bedding could wait of course, but to delay the ceremony was to appear an usurper) and oversee the reconstruction of the south.

[] Make for the Wall. The South can see to itself and follow some other man. Or men.
[] Make for the Wall. You will delegate the protection of the southern kingdoms to your new Hand (write-in).
[] Make for Storm's End. You cannot lose the Baratheons or their claim.
[] Make for Dragonstone. Shireen can wait, and you wish to personally oversee the hunt for Aegon.
[] Write-In.

If the wildlings are this threatening then honestly avoiding a battle all together and not losing any men might not be such a bad thing.

Even the dice gods wanted us to take the plot hook.

[X] Make for Storm's End. You cannot lose the Baratheons or their claim

Consolidate the South first then let us help the North.
