Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

Hmm...

  • Something is up in the Golden Company camp. Better to try and find out what it is rather than charge in.
  • We can always refuse their terms if we don't like them.
  • This is not Daeron the Young Dragon 2: Electric Boogaloo. The meeting is on neutral ground and closer to our camp of 100,000.
  • There is a strong possibility that whatever's going on is bad news for us. (Assuming that's not QM messing with our heads here, but if you want to dive into that well of recursive paranoia that's your lookout.) If Aegon's managed to dig up a functional dragon, I'd rather know now so we can figure out what to do next rather than walk fat and happy into Field of Fire 2: Blackfyre Boogaloo.

[X] Decline the truce. You're here to kill dragons and eat pigeon pie. And you're all out of fucking pigeons.

Well obviously that means a chance for the dice God's to further favor House Stark and have Robb take down the dragon in a feat that would leave Dorne, Blackadder and Ciaphis Cain calling bullshit. Again being fully open about the fact that I think agreeing to the parley would be interesting, not optimal

Added. And throwing in another point.

  • If we can negotiate a surrender, we can get their elephants. Are you saying you don't want war elephants?
  • There's an obvious plot hook here...let's find out what it is. Then we can kill all dragons if we want.

spudman, just to counter your elephant argument a bit. We are the Starks, if we want elephants let's just go beyond the Wall and get some Wooly Freakin Mammoths!

[X] Accept the truce. You will meet with this King Aegon

Wouldn't be a Charcolt quest without trying some crazy shit that inevitably ends up working out. I don't think our glorious QM his it in her to give us a trap option unless we've really been trying to earn it

And besides, if we get Dany we can try making the eight (great houses)! Our namesake would be proud. And probably angry! Which likely means he'd go back to drinking/whoring and feel proud of us again! This can go wrong, yeah, but I feel we've got a good shot here.

Also, Aegon won't try shit. His situation right now is extremely untenable and unlikely to last. Killing an enemy king while under a truce, one who seems to be well-respected and connected throughout the kingdoms, would be a deathblow to any dreams he has of actually holding the crown. The shot to his honor alone for openly violating a parley without having Dorne's cultural plot armor is damning enough as it is.

Alright, you have me interested. Let's go see this so called Aegon..

[X] Decline the truce. You're here to kill dragons and eat pigeon pie. And you're all out of fucking pigeons.
Considering this guy already tried to assassinate us I'm not inclined to let him try it again, additionally for burning Kings Landing he kind of deserves to die, and the golden company is kind of more trouble that it's worth, if we can kill them now that would make things much easier in future. We are also in a position where we have to kill Aegon, he tried to depose us and can raise an army, we have a far more powerful army and have him basically cornered the only way he can win at this point is using some dirty trick. Therefore, our best bet is to minimize the chances he has to try one and make this as quick and direct a fight as possible. Even if he does have hostages it's better that we don't know about them because regardless of who he's threatening our best bet would still be to kill him but Robb might not be able to go through with that if he knows he'd be sacrificing someone he cares about.

I don't think hostages are the thing that is going on in the Golden Company camp. We would have been told that right away as an incentive for a truce meeting.

It's more likely there's some dissent in the Golden Company camp, or between Aegon and Daenerys, that we can capitalize on.

Or it could be dragons. Or something completely unexpected.

That's why we shouldn't waste this plot hook and find out what it is. If they make an offer we can always refuse it.

An assassination is not at all likely when the meeting will be at neutral ground and closer to OUR camp. It would be suicide even if he did somehow pull it off.

No, I'm more concerned about all the time that they've had to bunker down. And if we just charge them then they may well fight to the last, internal dissent or not. That's a recipe for a meat grinder.

See, that's what I'm worried about: our rolls have been too good and I think the trap here is "I have a dragon, gg ez."

At this point in the timeline any dragons would be the tiny kind you can grab in your hands and squeeze like a scaly flamethrower. That's not a confirmation of anything, I just think it would be cute.

Anyway, y'all really distrust me for some reason. If this was a trap you could always just steal an escape elephant after beating Aegon unconscious with that golden skull stick.

Vote will close in ~12 hours when I'm back home tonight.
