Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

So, I have had a brilliant, brilliant write-in for the Dorne situation. Absolutely and perfectly flawless.

[GENIUS] Sleep with the hot blonde chick and Arianne Martell. Whichever one bears our child first will have their kid inherit the throne of Sunspear and the Lord Paramountship of Dorne. The other will of course be kept, with her mother, as wards/captives of the Crown (to be used should the other family start shit up again! Always nice to have a spare dynasty with claims under your thumb to keep things under control!)

@Charcolt is this valid?

Just because we guide Robb doesn't mean we have to make him fall prey to the same mentality and pitfalls that his canon counterpart already underwent.

He doesn't have to have the same level of honor here, and a teenager riding from pulling off some of the greatest military victories in living memory could easily justify his actions to himself here.

I'm not saying he has to be the same. I'm saying that we're still making decisions that have to consider whether or not an action is in character, and our Robb is still based on canon Robb from the point of divergence with canon. Our Robb deciding to intentionally bed an unmarried woman and put a bastard on her could well still be OOC even given the decisions we've already made, and I'm not really thinking that it would be IC for our Robb. While some allowance can be made for crack purposes, this quest has so far only been semi-crack rather than full on crack.

It's not OOC, it's an available option provided by the GM. If it was a write-in, you might have a point. But that is not the case, and Charcolt has up till now only ever presented options to us that Robb might consider viable options to undertake. Is it a nice thing to do? No, not really. But it's perfectly within his range of potential choices, same as seizing the throne outright is.

[X] Fuck it. Try to seduce the sexy blonde and name your bastard the Lord of Sunspear.
This isn't going to win, but it should. Plus, the leading vote involves not banging Arianne. I can't support that.

[X] There are moments where your choice is all that matters. You have won Stannis' victories and you are betrothed to his only daughter. The men will support you. Do not be afraid to leap. Take the throne.

I genuinely can't remember if I voted yet so..Fuck it. We'll make our namesake proud, Oberyn too...probably.

[X] Lady Yronwood has been recovered by Lord Tarly. With her betrothal canceled, she is heir to your promise to her father. She may not know that, but she would make a fine puppet ruler and could be wed to a man of your choosing to secure her and her children's loyalty.

[X] Edric Dayne will make a fine Lord of Dorne with the Martells broken. Pressing his (nonexistent) claim would shift power away from the Rhoynar. Perhaps a marriage to Arya could work as well, for he seems a decent enough lad.
Stark Hegemony FTW

Brief thoughts:

Taking the throne: Short answer: No. Long answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Explained Answer: Trying to rule Westeros is an incredibly shitty and ungrateful job. If we are to rule, rule the North and maybe the Riverlands and the Vale if they decide to join up with us, but the Seven Kingdoms as a whole is a bloody White Elephant.

Shireen as Queen: Does she even want the job? If she does, I'm all for hailing her as the next Queen, but otherwise I don't see why we should force the job on her. And because of how the traditional rules of succession to the Iron Throne worked, we do have some precedent for giving her an out if she so desires.

Personally, since we are positioned well enough to completely play kingmaker and install on the throne whoever we wish so long they are even remotely viable, I feel it might be worth to delay the decision, call a Great Council to "discuss" the situation and if they are going to go with standard Agnatic-Cognatic Primogeniture or going to keep the Targaryan Succession rules. And more to the actual point, to ask Shireen what she wants for her future.

There's literally nobody else with a claim, the job has to go to Shireen (with a regent if she's not of age yet). Robert's bastards are all illigitimate, so they can't take the crown, and there are no other Baratheons left except her. Either Robb takes it and seals his legitimacy by marrying her, or she gets it. Nobody else is allowed or able to sit on the Iron Throne.

Yes. Well, actually, technically speaking one could decide to put a Targ on the throne, but fuck that noise. A Great Council could possibly try to decide to try to legitimize one of the bastards, and if enough of the kingdoms go with it it could work.

But more to the point, even disregarding all that, there's still a decision: The throne can go to her or the throne can go keep company to Stannis in the afterlife, with the Seven Kingdoms ceasing to be as a political entity, or, if keeping it together is desired, for it to be ruled by a council of the Great Houses in some kind of Confederacy or the like. It'd be far looser than having an Iron Throne, sure, but what reason is there that we need otherwise?

It's not a bad idea. We do have the impetus to crown whoever we want at this point and a Great Council might just be the best solution. The problem is though, who's the best candidate? JonCon is probably whispering in F/Aegon's ear, so he'll want dear old dad to be short a head, Jon is a sworn brother of the Night's Watch, Shireen is female, Robb has no blood claim, there's a whole bunch of bastards in the mix... It just seems like a disaster waiting to happen unless the seven kingdoms falling apart is your goal. The cleanest way is for Robb to take the throne, crush F/Aegon, then marry Shireen. That way everything's resolved nice and tidy.

Nevermind then - I thought it was a write-in for some reason. Though frankly it still seems like a rather OOC choice.

This is plenty cartoonishly evil and Robb is high on victory.

Jesus. I go away for one fucking week and what happens?

Sand Snakes: Not even once. Healthier that way.

This is not anywhere near where I wanted to go, but at this point I think it's the only way forward. Davos and the small number of Stannis's loyalists (assuming the faceless man didn't kill him too) will follow Shireen, but most of the men are likely going to be more willing to follow the Demon of Oldstones, hammer of the West, avenger of the King's murder, etc. than a young maiden with greyscale scars. Ultimately our claim derives from Shireen so unless we fuck off back North (which would leave Aegon and a pack of betrayed southerners at our backs, so that's no good) we're fighting to put her on the throne anyfuckingway. When push comes to shove we can bullshit our way around it if necessary: Shireen is Queen while we're Prince Consort or somesuch, and since clearly we're the older male presence we'll dominate the relationship anyway etc.

(Of course, Shireen is Shireen and Robb is Robb, so I expect by the time she comes of age she'll have him in proper harness, and he'll not object. But hey, let's win the war first.)

[x] Prince Doran can have one chance. Surrender unconditionally and he and his line will be allowed to return to the realm (with hostages) and his brother's bones will be returned. You extended an olive branch with Ser Gregor's head and were met with silence.

I feel like we should hide the fact that Stannis is dead until after our victory against Aegon. Most of our non-Northern followers would immediately switch to Aegon.

Also I propose that Shireen and Robb become co-rulers.

[X] The Prince of Dorne is an old and sickly man. Write to his daughter and ask for her compliance and surrender. With her wed to a man of your choice and any other claimants removed, Dorne could be secured. Or perhaps a different sort of arrangement could be made if you met her face to face.
