Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

Sorry, but that speech sounds horribly pompous to my ears. Also, far to long for the situation.

Even a simple "...and the truth is that Joffrey is illegitimate and not Robert's son at all! I demand trial by combat!" would be better than that, IMHO.

Enjou's version manages a nice balance between brevity and comprehensiveness, so if we must have a write-in speech rather than leaving it to the GM, let's use that one.
Which one is Enjou's ?
Edit : nevermind I've found it

Guys, there is a bit of a problem with the Trial by Combat idea. What if Ned loses? If Ned loses then that means he was guilty all along and the case is over and done with. If Ned loses than what is Robb going to do? Ned brought up trial by combat, tried to clear his name that way, and lost. Robb can't go to war over that, it takes some wind out of his causes' sails. When trial by combat is over then the issue that it arose over is supposed to be settled I believe. The whole reason Robb went to war was because the Ned was seemingly unfairly taken captive and held prisoner. If Ned tries to settle this with TBC then doesn't the outcome of the trial determine who was in the right. And if Ned loses then he was in the wrong and the picture can be more easily painted with us as the aggressors, right?

Edit: Basically if Ned loses then doesn't that paint the picture that he was treasonous all along and guilty. Which makes it awkward for us to march on King's Landing demanding vengeance when it was all settled legally (and it was Ned's idea too).

Most of the pquesters want to see Ned dead and Robb being KitN

Yeah, but Ned dying in a trial by combat hurts Robb's cause. I think it would be easier to fight the Lannisters with Ned dead but he has to die in a way that makes him a martyr, not a guilty man. Basically if Ned loses then according to TBC, Ned was guilty all along of all the crimes that he was accused of. He was legally found guilty. Him dying the way he did in canon made him a martyr and caused outrage. Him dying by losing a TBC that he initiated will still cause outrage but of a lesser scale.

If Ned loses, yes, that gives Joffrey some legitimacy... but the thing is pretty much all lords and ladies out there know that Trial by Combat is bullshit and proves nothing. It's just something they maintain because "what if I need a way to get away with murder someday?" so they all respect it to a degree. Those interested in seeing themselves king will just spin it to suit them - "oh, Joff is still an incest born bastard, it's just that Ned was trying to seize power so the gods judged him as false". Renly will still be leading his host, Stannis will probably still try to claim what he views as rightfully his, and we'll still want our sister back.

We'll still have Tywin, Jaime, Tyrion, and Kevan's sons as our hostages. We exchange what we need to for getting Sansa, Ice, and our father's bones back, and then we go back north and prepare for winter and let the southron shits fight over their damn chair.

You know, I was going to stick with the trial by combat write in. It sounds like it could lead somewhere epic. Then I realized that it wasn't nearly insane enough for a Charcolt quest. And since I don't think TBC is near enough to losing that I have to vote tactically...

[X] The One True Speech

"And I come before you to complain about my accommodations! For too long I've been imprisoned in shackles of musty wood and squeaking iron. I had planned to speak on crimes before my death but now I see the true crime is the substandard fare given to those in the cells! Why- the horrid shackles aren't even keeping me contained!"

*slips shackles off of wrists to demonstrate*

"Look! Look! It's barely more then bone! It looks just like the face of that man standing right behind you, Joffrey! ...wait. Do you not see him?"

EDIT: Not funny people. Clearly this is srs business.

Are you worrying about legitimacy? You are way too Naive...

Robb has all the legitimacy that he needs, basically, because he has an army of more than 20000 men, meanwhile Jeoffrey has none. And that is exactly the kind of legitimacy that Robert and Aegon had. So why do you even worry about it?

"And I come before you to speak the truth. Joffrey is a bastard born of incest between Cersei Lannister and the Kingslayer, and is not your rightful king! I have been charged falsely with treason, and my daughter's life was threatened so that I might falsely confess here before you and dishonor King Robert's memory! I will receive no fair trial in a Lannister court, so I shall have the gods judge me! I DEMAND TRIAL BY COMBAT!"

So, do they have to allow for champions? Could they force Ned to fight without one? I never really understood the TBC rules all that much, and that's the only thing that makes me think this could go wrong. Well, besides history repeating itself.

An unfortunate number of voters are hoping to get Sansa killed, and they've already written Ned off as dead anyway. :/

Hopper use your godpoint so that Ned trips and sends his sword flying right into the visor of whoever he is fighting.

I'm staying neutral on this one because I feel conflicted.

I want Ned to have a chance at life but, on the other hand, changing the timeline too much could put Sansa's life in danger and muck things up for Robb's campaign.

If Ned lives but is still stuck in King's Landing, it could cause some serious problems for the legitimacy of Robb's authority. He is only the heir after all and can't be recognized as Lord of Winterfell or King in the North until his father passes. He definitely has power and it's helped by him being an utter badass but if things start to turn against him and Lord Hoster croaks before Ned, a power struggle could ensue between Robb and Edmure, as he would technically outrank Robb. It's a minor problem but still a possibility if Robb leaves him out of things like canon.
