Turning around, you see someone who couldn't possibly look more out of place if she tried. A woman in her late 20's to early 30's with a white dress tucked underneath a fitted bronze breastplate like something out of those classical paintings. Her head and face is encased in a bronze helmet, showing only her solid silver eyes and a narrow and stern mouth. In her arms are a spear and a golden shield. An owl sits on her shoulder, completing the look.
"Athena." The name pops into your head as soon as you set eyes on her. After all, it's the same name she's called herself by when talking to you for a couple months now.
Athena nods before continuing.
"This is a battle for the fate of the world, for the fate of creation itself. One that is going to happen whether or not you realize your destiny." She says, pointing down the street.
As you look to where she's pointing, you watch a figure, a girl not much older than you, get launched into one of the buildings, hitting it with enough force to crack the masonry wall before dropping to the street. Running over to her, you see that she's hurt bad. Her brown ponytail is pasted to her head by blood, more of which streams down her face from a cut on her forehead. Her right arm bends at an awkward angle at her forearm, clearly broken. A sword and a knife clattering to the ground next to her.
"It is also one that, if you don't accept your destiny…" Athena continues as another figure, a man with short black hair, lands next to her. The girl tries to go for the sword next to her, only for the man to stomp on her good arm with a loud snap. The girl only gives a short, pained grunt in response. As the man picks her up by her throat, she tries to break free of his grip, kicking and thrashing with all her might as the man produces a dagger with his free hand.
"We are doomed to lose."
The girl goes limp as the knife is plunged into her chest. Her killer lift her a little bit higher as he pulls the blade out of her body, as if studying her, before he threw it aside. The corpse lands at your feet, her blue eyes staring unblinkingly at you as a pool of blood begins to grow around her, her killer striding towards you…

The ringing of your alarm clock shakes you out of your nightmare. Rubbing the last remnants of sleep out of your eyes, you look around your room, glad that was just a dream.
Most hosts wouldn't consider my warnings 'just a dream.' Scolds the voice in your head known as Athena.
I certainly wouldn't expect an intelligent young woman like yourself to do so.
You don't bother trying to argue with her as you step into the bathroom for a quick shower before you head off to your job at the library. You've had this fight with her before, and for a supposed goddess of wisdom, she seemed to have a problem with realizing you thought her talk of gods and monsters was complete garbage.
After the shower and a change of clothes, you head downstairs for breakfast.
"Mornin' dad." You say, getting no response in return. Making your way to the dining room you find it empty with a note sitting on the table.
Lex-
Got called into work early. See you when you get home.
You shrug, use to your dad working overtime. The second part of the message catches you off guard though.
Have a few friends stopping over. Might be able to help you with the voice you keep talking about
- Love dad
Your dad was nice enough not to immediately drag you to a shrink when you had told him about the voice in your head a few weeks ago, when you had finally given up the idea that she was just a construct of AP final exam nervousness that would disappear after the end of the school year. You'd still made him promise not to tell anyone though, lest your college hopes go down the drain. But if he went to someone about it, maybe he's worried about you.
Or your father is more accepting of the truth than you are… Athena chimes in. You just roll your eyes at her comment before grabbing a muffin from the table and heading out the door.

"Excuse me." You hear someone say as you work to restock the bookshelves at the library. "Can you please help me find the section on ancient Egypt?"
With how slow things have been today, you're more than glad to help someone out. You turn around with a smile on your face… that disappears the minute you see that you're talking to a dead girl. The person in front of you is a spitting image of the girl from your dream, right down to the brown jacket, black shirt, and jeans combo she's wearing.
"Are you all right miss?" The girl asks as you try to regain your composure.
[] Yes... So where does the interest in ancient Egypt come from.
[] Yeah... Have we met before? You look really familiar.
[] No. (faint)
[] Write in.
