Steel and Ambition: No SV, Just Building the Guns Won't Make for a Successful Business. You Need More!

This vote probably won't get traction but it's my thoughts distilled essentially. The only thing I will catch on is a variant of point 3.
[X]Write in:
-[X] In my readings about our nations history, I encountered the concept of Gekokujo, the low overthrows the high. It brought about most of the beginning of most ages of country, for good and for ill. It has brought about visionaries, tyrants, and chaos in equal measure. Gekokujo is inevitable.
-[X] What we can do is to give the people and through them the nation of Japan to seize control of gekokujo, a revolution of not one man or a class of men but of the entire nation to lead themselves forward. The nation shall stand against tyrants of the past, invaders of the present, for a free Japan of the future.
-[X] Give me men, materials, and machinery and I'll hand the power for Japan to seize its own destiny.

Edit: Disclaimer: I wrote this on a few hours of sleep. I don't know if I'll stand by it once I take a nap.

Damn it, that roll for our sisters. Shit. Welp, nothing we can do now besides letting them rest. Who knows, maybe they have other talents and interests besides industry and gunsmithing. It would be nice if we could open up a flower shop or other businesses so we aren't so reliant on gunsmithing for our living.

As for the third faction. ... We need a better name. The Constitutional faction?

Also, this
...
Um, you don't have to get involved.

You can literally say no. its why I gave a write in. You can call them out for their bullshit.

Edit: All I will say, is that there is no good answer to Japan's clusterfuck of a political situation. and none of them are good choices.

the Emperor wins, we just get what happens until the two suns get dropped on it, with attempted genocide and repression and oligarchy for this.

The Shogunate wins: The Samurai as a class will still be there, through all the trouble that can create.

These new guys win?

They will try to manuver their way to japan to become a great power, and do unspeakable things to the japanese people to get it. even if they are far more liberal then everyone else, and talk a big game.

Really there is no good answer, and I wanted it that way.
Uhhh, do unspeakable things? Do you mean exploiting the people, running monopolies, and doing imperial stuff to other nations? Cuz if that's what you mean, then they aren't exactly any worse than any of the other factions. Even the Japan of today have terrible labor laws so I think we can live with those flaws for a bit. Who knows, maybe we'll end up in a position to help influence this faction away from the less savory things.

Also, if we're going to do some write-in can we include something about how exploiting the Japanese people won't exactly endear them to us? I don't like it, but to industrialize rapidly, we do have to make some hard choices. Just take care not to make too many hard choices because that's how you lose the public's support.

Edit: I'mma sleep on this before writing anything.

Well the reason I said unspeakable things because really I didn't want to potentially list the insane amount of dysfunction that may occur in this country. Esspcially if those that modernize decide to follow the inhumane options of child labor, worker exploitation, serfdom...

Japan is... very dysfunctional... i mean, people think that assassinating their political rivals with swords is considered kosher for goodness sake, as long as its for the Emperor.

Plus its getting late.
Have you heard the term. Nothing matters as long as we win?
Unspeakable things is my catch all terms for crimes against the people... along with you know...

Other "fun" things that can occur that can make Japan worse.

Fair.

Well, before we can get to that stage, we first have to win the inevitable civil war. Cuz in my opinion, that is the likely outcome here. A three-way civil war between the Imperial faction, Shogunate faction, and Constitutional faction (our guys hopefully). I hope that if we're able to import machinery, workers, and materials from outside, we can also get some military trainers. I want to create a, probably small, mobile elite and modern force of soldiers loyal to the cause.

It would also be nice if we could get a large amount of intelligence people and spies on our side. Communication, intelligence, and logistics are the big three pillars of winning a war IMO.

Good thing we don't have to worry about the military itself except for offering suggestions to the ones running them. After all, we are still just a blacksmith aiming to become a weapons manufacturer.

Effectively with the "liberal" faction, we are gambling on a better future of japan at the cost of a potentially worse 19th century.
On the other hand, we have the known outcome of japanese imperialism and militarism... gambling it is!

Madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin.

Edit: 1 for greatness, 2 for madness, let's roll 12 times.

Edit 2: Ah yes, perfectly balanced as it should be.
Restestsest threw 12 2-faced dice. Reason: Greatness, or madness Total: 18
1 1 2 2 2 2 1 1 2 2 1 1 2 2 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 1 1

You mean something like that Unit thing Japan did in WW2?

If so, those lads are going to justify it as "Advancing Medical Sciences".

Hmm..will these lads basically the founders of this version of Japanese Cyberpunk Corpos?

If so, expect the things WW2 Japan did on a massive scale and more - for profit. | (Newsflash: That includes the sisters being at the short end of the shtick if the Corpos knew they can trick the MC to not be aware of it.)

Eh, not too happy with this, last paragraph feels too disrespectful for the culture yet Miki has been burned enough that I feel he (and us) need to include that caveat. No philosophy, simply business, signaling that yes we are willing to sell to them if they have the money, even give them preferential treatment, but that they must actually be willing to listen to us about the requirments to build what they want.

-[X] What you intend, I can only see at the end of a long, bloody path. But you already know that.
--[x]...If you can give me what I need, I can give you what you need. There is nothing that can guarentee your success, not with such lofty ambitions, but I can certainly give you a fighting chance.
---[x] I do ask however that you listen when I speak of the requirements for the weapons I can craft you. My father was dismissed by the Emperor and his court for declaring replication of the foreigner's weapons impossible at scale with what we had. He died for that dismisal, though not without felling many of his killers first. Now my own current contractors demand I craft a thousand more of Sakamoto-sama's revolver in as little as three years with a pittance of the funding I need, based on estimates they made, when it took me a year to design and craft the one. Forgive me for saying this, but firearms are not spear heads, a simple lump thing to be turned out enmasse. I can give you what you need, but you must be willing to hear my voice if I say it will take longer, or more resources, than you first believe it will.

This works I think.

Well that is easier said then done because that requires money we do not have.

So we need to get something to the market so that we can sell it.

I mean literally what do we have to lose if Japan has a potentially unstable democracy and constitution in the later half of the 19th century?

Because let's be honest even a flawed democracy is better then the empire.

I think at this point Miki has literally ran out of fucks to give and is telling them precisely what he's going to do.

Wait a minute, I'm not sure if I missed it but how do we ignite the paper cartridges? I'm assuming we have a primer of sorts in the back of the cartridge that can be ignited by the revolver's hammer and firing pin?

That's how it works yes.

Primers for a spark are easy

Percussion caps less so

So I have a question you all like how everything is going?

The quest?
