When we actually do design a helmet I have the personal opinion that it should be like a cross between Darth Vader's helmet and that design's samurai inspiration. Not only because of the "cool factor" but because it'd make it easier to incorporate a functional gas mask for the sake of practicality.

We're already going with an armour design that's basically samurai armour. It'd be sensible to use a helmet design that matches the aesthetics of the armour.
Exactly. When you're already living in a corpo hellscape you're not going to see grimdark fiction as appealing escapism.

An idea for the helmet design, Shredder's helmet would look cool.
Shredder's helmet is already pretty samurai-inspired. So a design combining elements of Vader's helmet, Shredder's helmet, and and a real samurai helmet would be perfect.
Like a helmet with the face of Vader's helmet* and the crest of Shredder's helmet on an otherwise straightforward samurai helmet. Though with the helmet being fully enclosed to make it properly airtight.
I'm not crazy about that example but there are quite a few images out there of samurai Vader helmet designs. Add a bit of Shredder influence to one of them and it should be good.

I think Isaac from dead space helmet works? It both has a slightly samurai like style while being an engineers wielding mask as well, which leans extra hard into Senji's themes, and the horror game tribute elements are a nice touch.

I'm going to be really pissed off if this is the case and we get stuck on (plot) armor shield duty instead of busting into and taking parts from the lab they abducted Cunningham to.
Maybe it is for the better that Senji accompanies Silverhand. If he is going to be using the very loud and conspicuous suit, he may as well be part of the distraction.
Arasaka Corp may later attempt to spin this as stolen Arasaka tech, claiming that the suit is one of their own designs.
It would still be damaging to their public image, but probably not as bad as acknowledging that someone else made it.
