Druchii infiltrators pretending to be "one of other kinds of Elves" (including particular one that ended up causing War of The Vengeance/Beard
I don't think malekith really counts as "druchii infiltrator"- they didn't exist until he hauled everyone who liked him off to Winnipeg. Before that they were just asur who believed in primogeniture

The other weird part is that the spy is described as an Asrai assassin, when the Asrai don't really do infiltration or assassins.

Smells like a coverup.
"It was an Asrai assassin."
"But Asrai don't send assassins or spies."
"It was an Asrai assassin, do you understand me?"
"Oh, right, Asrai assassin, such a terrible tragedy."

Cursed Thought: What if that "Asrai" that killed Aelsabrim's husband, was just (particularly moronic) Druchii infiltrator?

Like, there are cases of Druchii infiltrators pretending to be "one of other kinds of Elves" (including particular one that ended up causing War of The Vengeance/Beard)
The problem with pretending to be an infiltrator masquerading as a different nation is that its a very shitty costume to pretend to be from a nation that never goes abroad, while you are infiltrating somewhere abroad.

As far as the Asur are concerned, he just grew ill and died, and everyone thinks that the Asrai woman infiltrating the citadel is just an Asur.

The only reason you know she's an Asrai assassin is the book telling you 'this is the Asrai assassin, she's a potentially useful contact for adventurers who don't realize/reveal that she's an Asrai'.

You know, I completely missed the dead husband on my initial reading. She's even more perfect now.
"Woe is me, my beloved husband has died. Oh, I would give anything to speak to him one last time!"
"Anything you say?".

My cover up idea was dumb.
Unfortunately, GW went for even dumber one.

I wonder what proportion of Boney's world building and general Questmastering impulse over the years has come from a reaction to some GW inanity of "…that makes no sense.

Sigh. I'll just write it myself."

[X] Princess Aelsabrim Fallenstar
[X] The Tide of Skjold

I can see the possible hijinks already.

Think we can match how much we changed the world in Divided Loyalties here? Just instead of improving it this time we're going, "Oops, that looks painful, those poor, poor elves. Good thing I'm not responsible for any of it."

It depends. Does she actually take orders from the Everqueen, and if she does, does she do her best to follow these orders?
Well obviously the Everqueen never said to kill anyone, what is the point of borrowing deniable assassins from the other part of yourself if you have to risk being seen giving them their orders. She just stays quiet, problems go away and if anyone catches on it was those dastardly wood elves.
