This is indeed hilarious. Spoilers for those who have not played the game but one possible cause of our amnesia is that we could not take the consequences of our actions any longer so we got blackout drunk and stuck our head into the warp and committed ego death so that we could rebuild ourselves into a hopefully better person free of our past.

Also, we have the potential to be a much better version of Big E while also being entirely unpredictable in our actions.
 
The fact that Our Eternal Friend And Companion Who We Shall Never Abandon gives -1 Synapse means we need to always, always, always have Synapse boosting equipment too (as we do right now).
