LORE - Standing at the entrance of the greatest sect in the Lochaver Empire is a 500 meter wide obelisk that can be seen on the horizon across the realm. It has ended countries greater than the empire that currently claims the land it stands on. It has absorbed the qi of an uncountable amount of people since the beginning of written history, and perhaps even before then. And it looks down upon humanity, for it has seen the birth of man, and it knows it will see the end of man.

HEART - "Knows"? The arrogance. It will fall by the hands of man, even if we have to be the ones to make it happen.

TALENT - We will, for there has been none like us before, and there will be none like us again.

LORE - And so, at the foot of The Black Tower, a child stands in defiance and vows to destroy a monument they cannot even see the top of.

Pronouns
Any
You stand before an obelisk so black it doesn't seem to reflect any light. It towers so far above you that you cannot see the tip past the clouds, and it stands so wide it would take your mortal body minutes to walk to the other side.

SENSITIVITY - It towers above you in more than just height.

BLOODLINE - Your blood feels heavy in the tower's presence, it's conceptual weight almost more than your body can handle.

INSTINCT - YOU SHOULDN'T BE HERE

ENLIGHTENMENT - Should the carp flee from the dragon's presence? No matter how far it swims, an errant thought from a dragon can kill everything in the river.

INSIGHT - The tower is not alive. It has no will to direct.

FORTITUDE - And yet it can kill everyone here all the same.

LORE - It has before. Before it was subjugated by the Honored First Venerable of the Thousand Peak Sect. Before the Second Emperor claimed this land. Before it was more than just a line on the horizon.

SLAUGHTER - It was death. The Black Tower has killed more than anything else in this realm ever has, and ever will.

MANIFESTATION - And it will do it again. It stands as a monument to our failures. It stands as the inevitable end to all.

HEART - It will not as long as humanity has the will to stand against it.

The obelisk's presence upon you grows stronger, as if it hears your thoughts and takes offense to them.

PROCESSING - The people around you stagger and fall onto their knees under the strengthened pressure, and the innumerable runes on the tower seem to glow with malevolent glee.

FACE - To kneel to the enemy of mankind, how shameful.

TEMPERANCE [Impossible: Success]- We shall not bend the knee. We shall not give in.

TALENT - The heavens smile upon those who have the will to face the enemy.

ATTACHMENT - And what an enemy this is. We will remember this. And when we grow strong enough, we will make it know this feeling.

ENCYCLOPEDIA - 26 Cultivators past the Immortal King stage have tried and failed to destroy The Black Tower.

TALENT - Then we must climb higher. High enough to topple this accursed tower.

HEART - Then we shall. We must.

CALCULUS - Then we should start at the beginning. To look that far into the future is pointless.

LORE - And here we stand. At the foot of the Black Tower. At the entrance to the Thousand Peak Sect.

ENCYCLOPEDIA - There are only 999 mountains in the Thousand Peak Sect.

LORE - There is one peak nobody has fully climbed yet. And it is only then that the sect will truly live up to it's name. It is said whoever conquers it would become the true Second Sect Leader.

DEBATE - Some would claim that the peak is true immortality. Others would say that the goal is to reach the peak of The Black Tower.

HEART - If we must do both, we will.

LORE - And here begins the tale of you. Of us. A month off of 13 years old. To become a member of the Thousand Peaks.

INSIGHT - WHO ARE YOU?

LORE - WHO ARE YOU?

Attributes and Skills
This quest uses a skill system based on Disco Elysium, which represents each skill (and a few other things) by way of voices in your head. In DE, there are twenty-four skills, six for each of four attributes. The value of skills not only determines the outcome of skill checks, but also influence the attitude and behavior of the protagonist; a high Encyclopedia has more information about the world, but also means he's more likely to go off on tangents or rudely correct people on minor details.

While this quest is inspired by Disco Elysium, I've made my own skills to fit a cultivator.
Other differences is that your character starts with 22 skills, instead of 24 as their personality has not fully developed yet (they are 12 years old at the start of the quest).

Intellect is a cultivator's mental faculties, their intelligence.

The Intellect skills are CALCULUS, DEBATE, ENCYCLOPEDIA, ENLIGHTENMENT, INSIGHT and LORE.

Assess facts. Know what will happen next.

Favored by: Strategists, Formation Masters, Investigators

Calculus is your ability to use the information you have to deduce events and facts. It enables you to predict projectiles' paths, or see through the flaws in a formation.

At high levels, Calculus allows you to put together things in an instant, but you'll be so caught up in your own thoughts you may not notice other things happening around you. However, at low levels, you will be unable to discern anything, and you will find the easiest math difficult.
Speak up. Appeal to rationality or emotion.

Favored by: Rationalists, Charismatic Leaders, The Silver-Tongued

Debate is your ability to speak and reason with others. It enables you to make intellectual conversation, and to convince others of your beliefs.

With high levels of Debate, you will be able to out talk and out argue anyone, and you will be compelled to. Silence will be scarce around you. With low Debate, though, you will be unable to communicate with anyone, struggling to speak.
Recall information. Knowledge is power.

Favored by: Herbalists, Scholars, Informants

Encyclopedia makes you a know-it-all, turning your mind into a database of facts. It enables you to draw on these facts innately, offering a wealth of background knowledge to all things related and unrelated to your cultivation.

At high levels, Encyclopedia shares this wealth of knowledge to an almost overwhelming degree – while it may give you crucial information, it more often will clutter your mind with useless pieces of trivia. With low levels of Encyclopedia, though, you won't have any background knowledge, and you'll be forced to work with only what is in front of you.
Make connections. Reach for the truth.

Favored by: Sages, Seers, Immortals

Enlightenment is your attunement to the Dao. It enables you to understand patterns in the world around you and apply those concepts to what you do.

At high levels, Enlightenment is constantly whispering revelations to you, taking away from your ability to focus on the physical. With low Enlightenment however, you will struggle to understand the simplest concepts and techniques.
Understand others. See what they are hiding.

Favored by: Interrogators, Spies, Cultivation Advisors

Insight is your ability to learn and understand things about other people. It enables you to see through someone's cultivation, or deduce the reasoning behind their emotions.

With high Insight, everyone's secrets will be open to you, and will lead to you sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. However, with low Insight you will be unable to empathize with anyone, and the motivations of those around you will be opaque.
Tell stories. Learn from the past.

Favored by: Gossips, Generals, Wise Elders

Lore is your knowledge of history, and your ability to recall the past. It enables you to remember old memories and impart lessons to your juniors.

At high levels, Lore gives you near perfect memory, constantly bringing up old and sometimes completely useless information like what you had for breakfast 2 months ago whenever relevant. With low levels of Lore, you will struggle to remember what you did 5 minutes ago, and have difficulty learning from your past mistakes.
Psyche is a cultivator's social faculties, their ego.

The Psyche skills are ATTACHMENT, ETIQUETTE, FACE, HEART, MANIFESTATION, and TEMPERANCE.
Make friends. Treasure those bonds.

Favored by: Charmers, Social Butterflies, Team Leaders

Attachment is your ability to create and upkeep relationships with new people. It enables you to understand people you consider close to you, and makes it easier to make impressions on people are not familiar with you.

At high levels of Attachment, you find super easy to to create relationships of any kind, and once your first impression is set, it becomes hard to change. You make enemies just as easily as friends, and you do not care to reconcile with people you see negatively. Attachment at a low level makes it hard for yourself and others to relate. People will find you unnoteworthy and forgettable.
Observe tradition. A delicate social dance.

Favored by: Courtiers, Elders, Ambassadors

Etiquette is your ability to socialize. It enables you to remember and follow instructions, and helps you internalize practices from your own and other cultures.

With high Etiquette levels, you will hold high importance to correctly confirming to ritual. You will be compelled to respect those who are above you socially, and you will demand that same respect from those below you. Low Etiquette levels will make you seem as a rude and unsophisticated person, often offending those more powerful than you.
Know shame. Reputation opens and closes doors.

Favored by: Righteous Cultivators, Sycophants, The Famous and Infamous

Face is your ability to understand and feel honor. It enables you to understand how others think of you and how to affect other people's opinions.

High levels of Face makes your world revolve around it. Honor and shame become the only thing you care about, and they become your weapons against those who might try to harm your reputation. With no Face, you will become unable to feel shame, and you will be able to do unscrupulous and dishonorable things without a second thought.
Be virtuous. Do the right thing.

Favored by: Heroes, Philanthropists, Saints

Heart is your ability to care for others. It enables you to recognize and empathize with their emotions, and compels you to help people in need and pursue justice.

With Heart at a high level, you will go out of your way to try and make the world a better place for everyone else, even if that means sacrificing your own happiness. Heart at low levels will render you uncaring to those around you, and you will find it hard to justify helping other people without personal benefit.
Express yourself. Your will made real.

Favored by: Emperors, Young Masters, Ghosts

Manifestation is your willpower, your force of personality. It enables you to be confident in yourself and what you do, and to stand up to those who may oppose you.

At high levels, your Manifestation will warp the world around you, your personality so strong that it becomes somewhat of a conceptual force. Your confidence will become stubbornness, and it will become impossible to move you from an idea. At lower levels though, you will have no confidence, and you will be easily convinced by other people.
Resist desire. Don't give in to anything.

Favored by: Monks, Eunuchs, Those suffering from Heart Demons

Temperance is your ability to control your emotions and desires. It enables you to stand strong against things like fear and greed, and grants you the willpower to withstand the attention of those stronger than you.

Temperance at high levels will remove your temptations altogether, making you unable to feel any emotions and incapable of wanting for more, stifling your cultivation. Low leveled Temperance will make you a slave to your desires, unable to control yourself.
Physique is a cultivator's physical faculties, their body.

The Physique skills are BLOODLINE, FORTITUDE, INSTINCT, SLAUGHTER, and TALENT.

As your personality is not yet fully developed, you only have 5 Physique skills.
Purge impurity. Connect with your ancestors.

Favored by: Tribalists, Clan Leaders, Spirit Beast Descendants

Bloodline is your ability to understand your family. It enables you to communicate with your ancestors, and may grant abilities depending on your progenitors. You will feel more kinship with those you call family, and their values will affect yours.

With a strong Bloodline, you will be compelled to take care of your kin, and you will prioritize clan priorities, even at your own detriment. At low Bloodline levels, your clan members (if you even have any) will be ashamed to call you family.
Physical strength. Don't get yourself killed.

Favored by: Servants, Body Cultivators, Martial Practitioners

Fortitude is your ability to throw punches and take hits. It enables you to shrug off blows that would otherwise be lethal, and to leverage your cultivation into physical work.

At high levels, Fortitude makes you near unkillable, able to take pointers from higher ranked cultivators, and maybe even defeat them. At lower levels of Fortitude, you will end up as frail as a mortal, able to even be injured by the passing aura of your peers.
Sense danger. Go with your gut.

Favored by: Spirit Beasts, Weak Cultivators, Combat Savants

Instinct is your ability to listen to your body. It enables you to get an accurate read on situations just from experience, and to catch wind of the slightest danger. You will also know how long you can go without food or other necessities.

At higher levels of Instinct, you will be compelled by your bodily needs to the point of being no better than a beast. Primal desires like hunger, fear, and lust will become your priorities. However, with low levels of instinct you will be incapable of understanding your bodies' reactions, to the point of losing the ability to feel hunger or pain.
Inflict violence. Might makes right.

Favored by: Demonic Cultivators, Hunters, Young Masters

Slaughter is your will to hurt and kill. It enables you to do more deadly attacks in even friendly duels, and will compel you to start fights at the drop of a hat.

With high Slaughter, you will become extremely bloodthirsty and cruel, with such killing intent that even mortals will be able to sense it. With low levels of Slaughter however, you will be unable to hurt a fly unless you are forced to.
Heaven's favor. Your actions have consequences.

Favored by: Cultivators

Talent is how much Heaven is watching over you. It makes the unlikely happen, and gives you an edge during tribulations. It draws both fortuitus and unfortunate events to you. History is made by those with high Talent.

With high levels of Talent, one in a hundred events are constantly happening to you. People with high Talent are drawn to each other in the most improbable situations, and Heaven does not give any favors when two or more such people meet. However, with low Talent you will be destined for mediocrity, and will find it hard to break through bottlenecks and survive tribulations.
Motorics is a cultivator's sensory faculties, their agility.

The Motorics skills are CONDITIONING, IMPLEMENTS, PROCESSING, REPRESSION, and SENSITIVITY.

As your personality is not yet fully developed, you only have 5 Motorics skills.
Train yourself. Old habits die hard.

Favored by: Battle Cultivators, Monks, Penitents

Conditioning is your ability to internalize your training and alter your habits. It enables you to remember your training in stressful times, and allows you to train and change your default reactions.

Conditioning at high levels turns you into the most dedicated cultivator, giving you the ability to practice for hours at a time without distraction. However, you will become a creature of habit, and it will become extremely difficult to do anything outside of your schedule. At lower levels, you will find it hard to set habits, and you will often find your training failing you at crucial moments.
Use tools. Create a masterpiece.

Favored by: Artisans, The Rich, Quartermasters

Implements is your ability to understand and utilize creations. IT will enable the use of spiritual tools, pills, artifacts, talismans, and more. Implements also increases your willingness and motivation to use and create implements of your own.

High Implements levels will increase your motivation for crafting at the cost of everything else, and you may end up becoming over reliant on tools as a crutch. At lower levels of Implements, you will be unable to use any spiritual items at all, and you will find it hard to understand the tools others use.
Think fast. Nothing gets by you.

Favored by: Scouts, Guards, Treasure Hunters

Processing is your ability to consciously and unconsciously react to your surroundings. It enables you to think faster, and notice subtleties that would go right under other's noses. It also lowers your physical reaction time.

At high levels, Processing will make you jumpy, overreacting to everything and cluttering your mind with tons of thoughts in a short time. Processing at lower levels will make your thoughts slow, and your movements and reactions sluggish.
Mask intent. Nobody will see you coming.

Favored by: Assassins, Schemers, Cold Beauties

Repression is your ability to hide your emotions. It enables you to school your features, hide killing intent, and control your unconscious qi movements.

At high levels of Repression, you will be closed off from the world. Unable to show emotion, it will be hard for others to understand you. With low levels of Repression though, you will be an open book to everyone around you. Your face and your qi will reveal your thoughts to those watching.
Feel qi. Tune into the world.

Favored by: Diviners, Alchemists, Healers

Sensitivity is your ability to perceive and manipulate qi. It enables you to activate finicky tools, and to distinguish between different flavors of qi.

At high levels of Sensitivity, you will be able to sense the qi in other people, far away, and even in warded areas. However, this doesn't mean you will be able to process all this information, and you may get lost looking at the immaterial. At low levels though, you will be unable to sense qi at all, becoming unable to cultivate.

There are two types of skill checks in Disco Elysium. Both test against a preset difficulty value, but in different ways: passive checks test the skill value (attribute + skill training + other bonuses), while active checks test the skill value plus 2d6. Active checks are further subdivided into white checks, which can be repeatedly attempted as you train your skills, and red checks, which can't. For the purposes of the quest format, I'm using passive checks as essentially a narrative device where I as a QM say "yeah this skill influenced this scene". Similarly to how they're presented in DE, active checks will always be part of votes, with difficulties and chances of success specified - these votes will also indicate if the check is white/repeatable, or red/a one-time opportunity.

Note that succeeding on a check isn't necessarily better for the big picture than failing one! Succeeding massively on executing a terrible idea means you get the consequences of that terrible idea, while failure might just end in a quiet, personal humiliation.

I very much like the look of both the Wild Beast and the Shiv Master, but want the Ultra-Instict build to win

...I don't get it. The Write-In said there are six points one should allocate but all the Write-Ins so far have more than six points. Or am I tripping and there are gains somewhere that I skimmed over?

EDIT: On closer inspection, maybe because all Stats have a base of 1? Hm... If that's the case, that's probably the reason to my confusion. @_@:

Yeah, all of the attributes start at 1, and then you have 6 extra to allocate, which would give you 10 total.
