The Slave Who Makes Free: An Anakin Skywalker Quest

Wow that is some mad disrespect for Palpatine's maneuvering and some ludicrous arrogance as to think that the entirety of all of the circumstances is on us and we are the only ones capable of acting on it. Frankly, I'm impressed, I didn't realize that low of a view of the relative agency and effectiveness our opponents was possible while still thinking it possible that they could win.

In which case I have to ask: do you really think that if this IS Palpatine's plot that he'll shift a few things just because we asked? And if he does, that it won't cost as much more more in return?

He might, and I think all it'd cost would having to go up and ask tbh. Its a bit unusual we're going to everyone but the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. He's already got a bit of an anti-corpo rep thanks to Naboo.

some form of federation of self-governing oversector-sized-states is my two credits
Palpatine: "An interesting proposal. Yet, one which would compromise on the representation of the people. There are already questions about the legitimacy of certain Senatorial consolidations, to say nothing of planets gaining control of multi-system corporate interests through the old devil's deal for corporate Senators. Without some rationalization the Senate becomes unwieldy. Without enough seats, how can the people feel they have a voice? A question for the ages, but I assure you, I will find a solution."
Sideous fifteen years later: "My friends of the Inperial Senate, I hear your pleas for more… clarification, on the remit of the Regional Governors, without having to bring every petty issue to our doorstep. Alas, I am but an old man. My will is indomitable, but my flesh is yet weak. So I have devised a system of sub-central authority. A selection of Men with the intelligence, character, and devotion to meet the task of bringing the administration and the people's representatives together in ways I approve of. I shall call these groupings of Sectors…"

Just saying.:V

Whiiiiich is why we mostly stick with "we try to set things up so everybody's got the same rights-of-sentients floor but the galaxy's a big place and we can't get everywhere, the Outer Rim got abandoned during the New Sith Wars a couple thousand years ago and we never really went back..."

I have always wondered, what would have taken for her to have willingly followed Anakin in his fall? What would it have looked like? To look to the darkness he was walking into and go "I choose to walk beside him into that." What would there future have looked like? Interesting little thought line I have sometimes, but I'd imagine that it be totally depressing.

Padme's two great loves are Anakin and the democratic process. A Darksider is simply antithetical to the latter, they love domination too much.

Honestly I am curious about what would make Padme drink the authoritarian juice here. I honestly like the analysis I read ages ago that Anakin--as a highly under pressure "Chosen One,"--legit finds "A Single Strongman Solving Things" appealing and part of the reason he's attracted to Padme is that first impression of her as a "take charge, takes no shit" Queen. Man is a stooge in search of someone to step on him :V However Padme seems to be a legit believer in the whole republican ideals thing.

For all the Senate is a democracy where the representatives are elected, most of the planets and star systems are still ruled by nobles and monarchs. Nobles and monarchs who are supposed to embody the Platonian "Philosopher-King"…. but the reality is very mixed
While there are definitely places in the Republic ruled by genuine monarchs, part of it is that Lucas' (and perhaps the Republic's in-universe) Romanticism led to him styling all planetary rulers after royal titles, regardless of the actual system of government. A planet might be ruled by a hereditary family, a minister selected from an openly elected parliament, or the chairman of a board of the wealthiest corporations, but they are all styled 'King'.

Well, Anakin committed one genocide before they got married. And then a few more while they were on a long distance relationship. And I thing the ROTJ novel mentioned Padme felt that her being a Senator back on Coruscant while he was a Jedi meant she was too enmeshed in her duty to the Republic to have a more active role in curbing Anakin's fascination with fascism.

That said, the same novel did have Padme make a private plea to Anakin for him to personally ask Palpatine to accept a peace deal and relinquish the emergency powers.

She'd probably be fine with a NeoCon style Imperial President, one of the big thing for Palpatine was he'd been in office two or three times than he was legally allowed due to the emergency.

Look, if it was put on me to try to make the entire Star Wars Galaxy actually governable I...yeah no I'm pretty sure when you can't even bring everybody to the same bargaining table without lethally inconveniencing at least some of them (Kel Dor have problems with oxygen to the point of being dependent on its absence and there's a fair number of species that are pretty dependent on it) I am not remotely smart enough to be able to make it work.

I'd probably just set up a "find people actually smart enough that are sufficiently non-evil and oh yeah none of you and nobody you're connected to ever gets to be in charge as part of whatever system you make, sorry, love you" program and write myself an enormous golden parachute including protected tourist destination status for my retirement world of choice (Belazura) and owning a beach bar (enough to live on and do things and stay relatively informed without actually being responsible) on the beautifullest tropical planet for...what looks like about a dozen years before the Empire decides to strip mine it.

Because they ran out of puppies to kick that day I guess.

[X] Plan Keystones and Kickstarts
-[X] Make contact with potential allies in the Senate.
-[X] Link up with the Senate Intelligence Division.
-[X] Keep trying to persuade Grievous to work with Naboo.
-[X] Check in on your friends.

This is obviously not going to win, but it's still my favourite. I'd vote for something that actually has a chance, but we seem to be pretty clearly headed in one direction.

[x] Plan: Comprehensive Action
- [x] Find out what's happening with the Council.
- [x] Advocate for the petition to defy the Banking Clan and deploy the AgriCorps.

I finally catch up with the quest. Also I just wanted to say that everyone who voted for blue lightsaber must feel bad about themselves.

Also, reminder that blue option's don't mean Anakin will be destressed, just that he feels those options are good and vice versa. By going for Palpatine you are basically going into the groomer's house. It doesn't have to end up with Anakin getting molested as pointed out by others, but I think, for some mysterious reasons, it's better not to go there in the first place.

As I previously said, I think we will need to talk with everyone, including the Chancellor, to solve the question, so I'll vote:

[X] Plan: Engaging with the Premise
-[X] Make contact with potential allies in the Senate.
-[X] Link up with the Senate Intelligence Division.
-[X] Find out what's happening with the Council.
-[X] Check in on your friends.

-[X] Request help from the Chancellor.

And

[X] Plan: Fortune Favours the Bold (And informed)
-[X] Link up with the Senate Intelligence Division.
-[X] Advocate for the petition to defy the Banking Clan and deploy the AgriCorps.
-[X] Check in on your friends.

-[X] Request help from the Chancellor.

But I do not mind so much if Comprehensive Action wins this turn, I just believe it won't solve the problems yet.

Huh, come to think of it, I wonder, how much longer do we still have actually?
