Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

if people honestly tried to get to know him would likely like him too.
A mage's lab tried to know him once...

Cob is for people of rather specific taste in companions, and also for those who don't mind things occasionally blowing up.

I'd rather talk up Cob's performance against the ancient vampire if it's at all wise to do in this expedition. One lucky shank of devil assassin is chance, but that, that was no chance.

Also, vampires are demons.

As much as I want to defend Cob right now, I don't think that's the best course of action. Kori doesn't have any ranks in Diplomacy, and even if he did pull off a high enough roll to salvage the situation with this woman, his curse would just spoil it. If we want to use social skills here, it will need to be another Bluff.

@DragonParadox, not to say that it should be applied here, but for future reference, Kori can use Shadow Enchantment to mimic a Hermean Potential spell in order to allow himself some rerolls, if necessary.

Oh... right, the psychic list. I knew that one was not on the sorcerer wizard list and so I thought he could not get it so I went for the bonus from Bestow Insight.

I think you mean Bestow Insight, right? If so, that one can also be used for a reroll, but doing so cancels the effect after the roll is made.

In that case, Kori should have gotten two Bluff rolls there.

Somewhat agreed. We want something from these people, and arguing might not be the best way to get it. They don't like Cob, well they don't have to like Cob.

I am fine with keeping the current result, our Bluff is high enough to smooth things over.

Edits done, on the one hand you no longer have to recover from a crit fail... on the other hand the sellsword captain is perhaps more observant than you would like.

Leontas seems like the type that would have different lance heads for different situations. Silver for Devils and Lycanthropes, Cold Iron for Demons and Fey, etc.
If he got it as part of a Worldwound Crusade, then Cold Iron is much more likely.
Devils don't work with Demons.

If he bought it later as a mercenary, a more differential approach makes sense.

Okay, still not perfect results for us, but this is a far better outcome than that previous crit fail.

How about this?

[X] "It actually came as something of a surprise to me that other cats didn't talk, since Pepper was the first of his kind I ever met," Kori jokes.
-[X] "He made his first appearance shortly after I helped free Mina and Cob from Duergar slavers. I'm not sure what sort of spirit Pepper is, but he's proven quite helpful in our travels. I suspect someone from the monastery where Mina grew up sent him to watch over her when she decided to venture out into the wider world. He won't elaborate, but seems quite attached to her."

I think this is the best kind of lie, the one that also contains a lot of truth.

Y'all have any recommendations to polish it further?
Mina didn't grow up in a desna monastery, she grew up in an intense pharsma one
Pretty sure it was a monastery of Desna. @DragonParadox?

I think we should be "honest", and say we think he's been sent by Desna, as "inscrutable God actions" are an easier thing to believe than "cleric of God of dead sent this creature to look after Mima", imo.

Espically if someone does well/crits on a knowledge roll and recognises him as a Figment (I.e. dream-thing).

Less lies for Mina to have to juggle too.

The only thing we actually have to keep secret is that he's Mina's familure, everything else is... fine to be honest about.

I was thinking to state that outright as supporting evidence that he had been granted as a favor from Desna.

Shouldn't we? Is it dangerous for him to be identified that way? I can't really see how.

For now I've removed mention of what sort of monastery It was Mina grew up in. I hesitate to outright claim Pepper was sent at the behest of a god, though. That's inviting a bit too much scrutiny, IMO.

Having reread my post, I was wondering what part could be a lie, and now your post had made me think that we could pretend Akarion doesn't know Pepper is a figment.

I don't think there's any danger - in fact, anyone who "knows" about figment familures will know Pepper "can't" be Mina's, as he went far away from her.

But I dunno what the DC on "what are figments/familure rules for figments" might be.

I'm too "has cold, maybe Covid" to make a plan right now btw.

*shrug*

I don't even see why we need to lie, except for a lie of omission.

[x] Pepper is a creature of dreams watching over Mina as a favor from Desna, whose teachings she follows.

I have to say it is really fun watching you guys work out how to lie just enough to make something not-a-diplomacy roll so as not to trigger the curse while also getting across what you want. There's something almost fey about it which fits with Kori's liminal nature as a mage blessed and cursed by shadow.

We need to lie so as to use the Bluff skill.
What's the omission? That he's her familure?

@DragonParadox would that lie of omission be enough for this to count as Bluff?
I don't think it would be.
