[X] You know you can't stop more from coming, but you can certainly delay their arrival. Cast a spell of protection over the town to keep out anyone who has harmful intentions towards the children.

The sheer irony of an infamously heavy hammer being easy to use is hilarious. Also, Norton, you do not have to mention it every time someone you killed comes up. It's liable to come up when talking about like any significant event and it's gonna sound like you're trying to brag.

Maybe its just because he is reminiscing about old times, and they just happened to be the times he killed people. He is a vampire after all, he's wierd like that. :V

Decided since the story is written in the second person, I'd write my vote in first person.

[X] I'll set up wards, so many wards. Cover the place in spells to hide the kid's magic energy and protect the house. If possible I'll make something wearable for the kids, and make sure they always have at least a holy symbol. For younger vampires that should help, though ideally they'd also have a weapon at all times. I'm not sure if I can do anything to ward the town itself, but if I can I'll give it a whirl.

So Norton murdered a lot of gods apparently.
Not gods per se.

Just very powerful magical humans from ages long past, that would be in time venerated as gods. They are one of the reasons why vampires cull people with supernatural aptitude, so that no Thor or Merlin would ever rise to challenge their supremacy again.

Look when people call you a god centuries after you die? Does it really matter if you were a god or not? :V

Can I have a tie breaker?

Lets be honest the amount vampire mages capable of detecting the wards lack a reason to come here, or scan the globe for them, worse case scenario, we use a scan amd search the "voids" to find the kids if something bad happens.

You had not been afraid for a thousand years. Oh, there were times that you were seen as evil by the mortal peasants and knights who sought to throw you out and burn you at the stake, but never could catch you. But that was not a danger. Hell, you found it exciting to cut loose and kill.

Vampires attacking you, hunting you however, was not something you had to deal with for a very long time. You were the one who had to hunt them, and most of the time it was strange… and dangerous youngsters who did not respect their elders and who wanted to take over some part of the world as their own private fiefdoms.

You mostly just captured them and killed them, just to make sure no one ever really did it. There were rules and those that followed them. And people had to know what they were.

But with this, the protection of two mortal children, Mary and Joshua, you were certain that you needed to put more effort into that. That and other things like making sure they were educated, both in mortal and immortal… ways of life. Most vampires do not care if a mortal enters their domain, but they do care, and enjoy it when they are… treated as what they believe is owed to them.

And Mary seemed smart, well versed in Latin and other languages, at least judging from her own shouting when you met her… maybe she took after Fraya and was a genius intellectual who happened to love to use shotguns and hammers to kill things.

Joshua was going to be difficult. He needed training and while the best course of action was to have him start practicing immediately, safety was a concern, not only for the township but for others in it.

That boy was going to kill people, and hell, he might kill you, if you were both not careful. He had powers that were beyond anything you had if he was able to come into his own.

But first was turning your home from another American suburbian fortress into a magical American suburbian fortress. You needed guns, artifacts, weapons, and of course, the local constabulary to not get involved with wondering why you became so worried about your own safety.

One thing at a time, however, as you pulled out stones from the ground and looked at them. The Runes were crude but they would serve your purposes. "Mary, get over here." You ordered as the sun set behind the horizon, you stepped out and you looked at the walls and doors.

"Yeah?" She asked. "What do you need Norton?"

You sighed. "A Drop of blood, preferably on the post or the railing."

She shrieked. "What!?"

"A drop of blood dear, to power the wards, get this place ready for any sort of defenses. To make sure you are not destroyed if you or your brother could trigger it." You replied.

She nodded bit her finger, and let a drop of blood touch the railing of your front porch. The rocks and the fence glowed dimly, before becoming nothing. "What just happened?"

"The protective wards now view you as masters of the house. You will not be harmed if it activates." You replied.

"Masters-" She paused as she realized what you had done. "I thought?"

"I am protecting you, and I cannot do that if you are not considered part of this home." You replied. "Joshua is your blood, so he will not be affected, even if he could be with his magical powers."

You paused and looked up and down. "Were you baptized?" You asked.

"Yes." She replied. "Though a lot of good that does me, they may get burned by touching me, but they can still hurt me all the same."

You nodded. "A Crucifix will do, or a rosary, extra protection always helps." You said. "Maybe a holy ring of a bishop could do you well, I have a few you can burrow."

You then looked back inside, to where Mjlnor was sitting. "I suspect you know how to use that? Properly?" You asked.

"Yeah, Mom always said that big hammers will always keep you safe when nothing else can." She replied. "Well, that and shotguns."

You smiled. "Colts always seem to work, there was some gunsmith that blessed by some god, or maybe the God back in the 1800s, John Browning. All I know is that his weapon designs always seem to hurt us more than usual. And while Arizona is a wonderful place they don't care too much about people being openly armed. You're still underage. Bring the hammer."

Mary then walked over inside, and a moment later, she came back with the hammer. "Now, watch this."

Illusion Magic:D20 => 20

You waved your hand, and Mary was shocked. "Where did it go!"

"Hold out your hand." You said.

Mary did so, and the hammer appeared in her hand and crackled with lightning. "The lightning is an illusion that is placed on the hammer, to be able to launch it into the air as a signal. Anywhere in a two-hundred-mile radius, I will be able to see it and watch."

You took it from her and threw it into the yard. "Now hold out your hand."

Mary did as you asked, and then the hammer rose, and flew, before gently landing back into her hand. "Holy-"

"Little trick that Thor could never figure out before the loss of his arm…" You smiled. "It's bonded your magical signature. No matter where you are in the world, it flies, and it will reach your hand. Even if you are dead."

"And thor won't mind?" She seemed hesitant as you said that.

"Oh, I'm sure he won't mind." You replied with a smirk.

"So question, why not ward the town?" She asked.

"I'm trying to keep you safe." You said. "The town is not under threat unless you make it under threat." You replied. "There is no need to ward it."

"So what now?" She asked.

"Get some rest." You said. "I need to speak to the superintendent of the school, and see about getting your brother and you some more protection."

"School?" She asked.

"You are both still children, and routine will help you, and me, with making sure you stay safe." You replied. "Besides, there are not any vampires that are teenagers within a thousand miles of this godforsaken place, you'll be safe at school because unlike most public buildings they need to be invited in."

"Are you sure about that?" She asked.

"Do you really think a vampire would want to visit a school in broad daylight?" You replied. "I wouldn't, because there are too many places to get destroyed. Too many windows and too many blasted places for the sun to get you and kill you."

"Good point."

--------------------------------------------

You take a deep breath and watch the two children sleep.

What do you do now?:

[]Register them into the school: You are going to get those children to school. Because at this moment in time, you need time and rest. And during the daytime, as long as there is… sunlight, they will be perfectly safe.

[]Joshua's training: He needs to understand the power he wields, as well as what you need to do to get those souls to trust you.

[]Mary's Hammertime: Mary wants to practice fighting, and since you are the only vampire around, that means you need to be… careful. To not kill her after all.

[]Write in.

AN: Enjoy.

Oh, there were times that you were seen as evil by the mortal peasants and knights who sought to throw you out and otherwise make you have a brilliant but otherwise fervent and stupid plan to attack you in your own home.
Something went wrong with this sentence.

And Sarah seemed smart,
Her name is Mary. Honestly, at this point I'm starting to think there should be a running gag of people getting her name wrong and her correcting them like Biff Butch from Team Rocket.

maybe she took after Freya and was a genius intellectual
Previous Updates spelled her name as "Fraya".

From vampires, sure. Not so much from their mortal helpers.

It might be a good idea to get them some breathing bodyguards of their own, since we won't be able to help them during the day.

As a very old Vampire, I would not be surprised of Norton has a large organization in the background that he owns. To help him pay the bills or take over a small country.

-[x]be registered as their "legal guardian/honorary grampa" you where after all "the mentor to their parents in their "occultism hobby" and have letter that prove they desired for you to be their "legal guardian", just call our lawyer, get that stuff sorted out, if the other vampired ask " I am taking their stuff god hope forbid a magic book goes on the wrong hands", probally talk it out with the kids if they are okay with a "gramparent legality" if only to stop "legal attacks to isolate you from witnesses"
