One does not deal with white supremacy by pretending it does not exist.

A mass trial would serve as a very clear statement that the government of the United States will no longer tolerate the depredations of the animating force behind Slave Power and the treason it inspired. Bring these men to trial, announce to the nation that they are guilty of a great crime against liberty itself, and then have their bodies swing from the nearest gallows.

Settle the matter, we have at least some level of stability and support right now.

We've undermined the practical basis of Reconstruction several times in a row already. The reasons for doing so were valid ones, but there has to be more done than changing DC's political culture. We need this flexibility to ensure an on-the-ground Reconstruction actually happens.

As this very update states, we've now burned and despoiled large amounts of the land that we meant to redistribute. Does that sound like a successful foundation for a New South?

We've killed the Klan for a generation. The social fabric has to be rewoven in that time, or Reconstruction will certainly fail.
