Perhaps it relates to the fact she can see once more.

Well then, that does changes things right away.

We are now unable to make any jokes about not seeing the problem, for once. :V

She slowly sits up and absently flexes her right hand, then realises it is still gone.

Ah, the good old phantom limb phenomenon, always there to make you miss something you don't have anymore.

The mere fact no tree crests the horizon in any direction tells her enough.

But if there are no giant tree around, where are we going to sleep?

The notion has Malenia muse on what burial rites may be practiced in these lands. Without an Erdtree, there can be no Erdtree burial after all; how are the souls of heroes reincarnated if there is no great tree to consume their mortal remains first?

*Put on a teacher's hat and get a board out of nowhere*

Well, you see....

Perhaps a new moniker is needed for a new world

Scarlet witch.

HER.

Aaaaaahhhhhh god, make it stop, make it stop!

Though the handful of children spying on her is unusual. Malenia just pretends not to notice them and they leave her be.

Man, that's some quite calm children, some would take that as incentive to poke the tall lady.

A butterfly flutters past her, dark as the night. Her skin still tingles. And with a start, Malenia realises that the Rot is flowing forward unbidden.

Oops, the nearest continent. :V

Malenia shifts her clothes as cancerous growths emerge from her shoulder blades. Crimson vines stretch outward for several metres, between them membranes of countless black butterflies. It feels right, even though the moonlight is what coaxes out the rot. But more than that, it is stable. She does not need to fight the Rot to keep it under control.

Hmm... interesting.

A stable Rot? Is it local or not? Why is the god of Rot cooperative?

Hmmm....

Or she could apply the faster solution of slaying them all, then salvage what is useful to her.

*Raise eyebrow*

Nope.

She who is deemed the (currently) hardest boss in FromSoft games and holds that title while (most likely) blind.

Balteus called, he says: "But does she filter the journalists?"

Helicopter called too, he adds: "In the tutorial at that?"

Let's show kindness?

Well. I'm glad that this isnt meant to be a story centered around combat, because Malenia is a terror even *without* having control over the Rot.

There's a handful of people in Fairy Tail that can probably push her, but that's not the sort of fight that you want happening in the first place tbh.

I feel like Millenia wouldn't destroy the village of cursed people if only because it would probably make Miquella upset. I could see her just up and leaving, but that doesn't seem completely in line with her character either either.

As someone who usually has to catch up on long running quests, you have my immediate gratitude for including the winning vote at the top of the update.
I know that feeling well, hence why I always do things this way.

That aside, shoutout to this vote for reminding me that there is no need to even offer this sort of choice. I know exactly how SV will vote before it even goes live. But I guess it was in the spirit of Christmas to start with an easy decision :V

Amen, this helps so much.

Hey, you never now, someone could be tempted. :V

They didn't try to kill for just existing like in The Lands Between, so we might as well offer our assistance.

Hm. Maybe I should extend the vote, what with how close it is.

See? Almost not unanimous!

But no, vote is closed. Malenia stays to investigate. And with that we begin the process of tearing canon into tiny shreds.

Wonder how many people realized where we were, probably most, as typing *fairy tail cursed island* instantly tells it, but still.

For the few that don't: We are extremely likely to meet Natsu and co in short order, this is one of their missions in canon.

Knowing Natsu, he gets upset of not completing the S-Class Quest he illegally stole and dragged his friends into it, and demand Malenia to fight him. Which would be terrible idea as she had fought and slain dragons from her world before.
Since were on the topic how well would Malenia do in a fight with Acnologia or Zeref?

Sounds a bit too early for Malenia to encounter those two... But I can imagine that she'd be curious to see how they survive her and see if they live up to the legends of the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse and the Black Wizard.

After all, she is the Blade of Miquella and she has never known defeat.

It is difficult to say much on either matchup as it were. Malenia is peerless with the blade and almost so in battle altogether. The same goes for Acnologia, to the point I do not feel like any definitive statement would do them both justice. A fight between them would come down to the situation, how ready each of them is, and how much each side knows of the other.

Zeref, meanwhile, is not a fighter at heart. He is a scholar who can throw down with others by virtue of having forgotten more magic than others learn in their lives. Malenia can kill him ten times out of ten easily, not that it sticks. In turn, he is also the most likely to find a way of defeating her. The better question is whether the Scarlet Rot can overcome the curse of Ankhseram that forces immortality on him. And I am not going to answer it here.

And really, the most important question is this: can either of them take down Malenia without causing Caelid 2.0 by making her desperate?
