Rise of the Immortal King [Cultivation, CK2]

Its a Quest, so you'd use a Quest bonus.

I would allow a Conceal Affinity Treasure but it'd be weaker than the quest.
Dark Affinity undoubtedly would be a quest bonus for the duration of the quest length. "cite until the beginning of full blown war."

That doesn't mean however having an artifact that could make people unaware of our affinities specifically can not be useful. Say, an opponent assumes we're a pure life practitioner allowing us to use other affinities in a surprise manuever in a key point of a battle, or we can make people believe we're a weak fire practitioner while we disguise ourselves in an opponent's kingdom. There are uses for it, but overall quest bonus is superior.

[X] Plan Conceal Our True Nature

I'm not the biggest fan of trying to remove a choice, especially when we just made it. I'd prefer to hide the affinity than just undo the previous vote by trying to remove it.

Financial Stimulus

The project was a resounding success. Yes, the nobles might grumble about you "handing out money to the poor" but honestly, let them. The common people were happy in a dreary cultivation world where no one normally gave a shit about them. That would pay dividends in economic growth as they worked harder and tried to get their extended families to move to the province.

Beyond that, peasants were actually creating businesses. Perhaps not world shaking but the fact people had money to spend at a tea house was an improvement in their lifestyle. The fact the peasants then created tea houses to meet demand created more movement of money, more growth as people had more money to spend.

[][Financial Stimulus] Focus on economic growth (Improve economic growth % from -65% to -55%)

[][Financial Stimulus] Build up morale. (Improves peasant morale from content to loyal)

Establish Spy Network

Peasant spies were what you could afford on a budget so that is what you hired. You did not need to know everyone's secrets. Just what was discussed in alehouses as rumor and innuendo. The sort of thing that did not travel yet was somewhat reliable if many people believed it. Power came from knowledge and you intended to know everything you could safely.

Cultivation

Cultivation...did not go well. Perhaps it was the fact you focused too much on the economy and intrusive thoughts about money disrupted your concentration too often. Perhaps it was just the fact you had an off year. Whatever the cause, you gained 0 Power.

Life Affinity

Things did not go well either. No matter how hard you tried to cultivate the Life Affinity, all you did was kill plants and small animals who got too close to you. It seemed your meridians were clouded with the Dark, negative energy. The power to drain life was no small thing, different than what was used by the Death cultivators yet equally powerful. A Death cultivator had to kill before battle. Some called them Demonic cultivators as a result.

You? You could touch something and drain it dry. It was a talent you had apparently.

Your Dark affinity deepens to 25%. Beware, if this trend continues it will grow strong enough even your attempts at concealment might fail.

[][Life] Heaven Defying Draining Aura - You have developed a new, powerful Aura that drains the Qi from anyone and everyone around you. You must keep this Aura under control unless you are alone lest you be discovered. It is, however, stronger than any aura at your Power has a right to be. A useful tool if War comes. (Odds of detection increase by 1% to a minimum of 2%. Reduces Enemy Power by 10 [-10 to personal combat] per Round to a minimum of 0 = Death. Grants you 1 Power per target affected. Maximum of 25 Targets.)

[][Life] Tyranny of the Dark Lord - You have developed a powerful Aura that weakens people's resolve to resist you when you flare it. You must keep this Aura under control unless you are alone lest you be discovered. Demonic beasts from the wilds will be drawn to serve you. You have the presence of one of their own. (Odds of detection increase by 1% to a minimum of 2%. Demonic spirit beasts of lower Power AND not higher cultivation realm will be drawn to serve you. They will not harm the people of your fief as long as you do not lose control of them by being severely weakened. Gain 1 Demonic Spirit Beast Ally per Turn. Minimum Power 50.)

Conceal Affinity (1/2)

Through the use of tricks and cultivation resources normally used for other purposes, you have developed a weakening of your Dark Affinity. It does not suppress it completely but as long as you restrain yourself it is better concealed. You believe you can improve on this technique with time and practice. (Note: Minimum is now 2% and maximum is 4% due to [Life] options)

Financial Stimulus: 104 - At least something positive happened this turn lmao.
Establish Spy Network: 78
Cultivation: 16 - No gains; no adverse effects.
Life Affinity: 17 - idk man. Your luck with this really sucks. I was tempted to re-roll but I already kinda ignored potential negatives from a 16. :\
Conceal Affinity: 48 - I'm gonna call that a pass after that last roll.

Gained: +3 to Diplomacy (Treasure)
Gained: +9 to Quests (Treasure)

Well. That's...not great. Hopefully, in future, the +9 will help these things not happen, though it didn't do much good this time.

To clarify, we have to pick one option each for Financial Stimulus and Life, right?

If so, I'm thinking:

[X][Financial Stimulus] Build up morale. (Improves peasant morale from content to loyal)

We want our peasants so loyal that when it comes out that we're a vampire they shrug. Because it's gonna come out, the goal is just to have that happen after the civil war starts when fewer people will care.

[X][Life] Heaven Defying Draining Aura

Demonic beasts are obvious. This only kicks in when we use it and is mechanically really good to boot (it's effectively +10 Power even on the first turn and vs. a single opponent, and escalates from there as the amount of opponents grows and time progresses...it's great).

Given our nigh certainty and ability to accrue dark affinity... I think a population loyal to us might help a lot.

I rather have a loyal populous rather then a rich one when the civil war kicks off in a few turns. Not kidding in the slightest. Though I have to admit that -65% economic modifier is crazy high. Damn! I really want to get that to 0 as soon as possible!

Still prefer the loyal populous. I rather they prefer us over any of the other crazy bastards running around!

[ ][Life] Heaven Defying Draining Aura

Damn! This gives us an area of effect death field! We could walk into a mortal army and they would simply die via proximity. All the while getting buffed from it. That is rather useful since civil war is going to kick off and using civilians as cannon fodder is right up a cultivation worlds alley! So only experts need attempt attacking our lands!

I bet in the future we will be able to outright shape it so it only effects those we choose to have our aura effect as well!

On the other hand... animal followers that can take on human form at higher levels. And it is a constant permanent increase to our follower base. I'm going to vote this option since we can likely get some rather useful followers this way. I expect we are more likely to acquire skilled but weak demonic beasts then we are to get those that follow the path of muscles.

I think It's really hard to deny. Our combat affinity is Dark, and with your obsession on cultivation. I believe we should focus on raising 2 affinities.
It doesn't make sense to continue fire affinity at this point.

I mean, generally our combat affinity will be Life, because that'll be really good. But Dark is a solid backup that we already possess, it's true. We definitely don't want to invest in pursuing Fire until both Life and Soul are done with. At that point, if we have time, maybe, though we will likely want to break through and have other priorities as well.

Basically, you're probably right and we shouldn't pursue it any time soon, but I don't see any reason to categorically write it off as a possibility in the future.

Actually...there is a question that might change that calculus @Abydon do we know if Dark is weak against Death attacks, or what's weak to it? Since it's Life adjacent I'm seized with the sudden worry it has the same weaknesses.

I'm not saying write off forever, just write it off of our short term plans. Simply being aware of this, means we'll focus on life and soul affinity growth. Ignoring fire until those are raised, instead of focusing on fire once it eventually becomes the affinity furthest behind.

We actually know this. It's weakness is it's like death. It's not a "strong" affinity(*cough* *cough* Drain Aura *cough* *cough*) So it's not going to have as much bang for the buck as an affinity like life. But its not weak to an affinity such as death.

@Abydon what kind of create technique difficulty would we be looking at to make the other technique we're not taking?

(I really think after war starts making the other of these techniques is going to be a really good idea. Or at least a variant of it. )
