Plan Take the Church by Storm
- Work with the Ecclisiarchy to rouse large mobs of religious citizens and flagellants and unleash them on the heretics, allowing our troops to focus on combating enemy strong points.
- Ensure that the ecclesial horde at least starts some distance away from the Cathedral, even if afterwards all control be lost
- Use the distraction to take the Cathedral in a swift attack with the Rough Riders, stick to the bigger streets to avoid having to split up too much and make use of the generous air-support offered.
The priests of the Ecclisiarchy were overjoyed when they heard about your plans to finally put an end to the consistent thorn in their side. Local priests had already riled up their flock, spreading hate against the heretic and denouncing their rebellion against imperial authorities. After your request for support they started to call upon the faithful to rise up and bury their enemies under the might of the Emperor's faithful. The most fanatic have eagerly taken their weapons and many of the less devout have followed them, swept up like debris on the rising tide of the God-Emperor's anger.
The great mob streamed into the Giulia District, demanding exultation to the emperor from anyone they encountered, killing all who did not show sufficient faith and forcing all faithful to march with them deeper into the district, where rebel militias meet them with their own version of the Emperors will in their hearts. The fighting quickly turns ugly and chaotic, destroying families, buildings and any possibility of large-scale organisation for the rebels. It is not unusual for smaller mobs to fight because they believe the other has shown unsufficient faith and losses from infighting quickly wipe out any gains from forcing the local civilians to fight for them.
Meanwhile, the 27th Davrian Rough Riders started to penetrate deep into enemy territory. They managed to rapidly reach St. Chirosius Cathedral, with many of the local militias mistaking them for troops supporting the arbiters. The few points of resistance were quickly destroyed through quick assaults combined with Valkyrie air support and not even the fortified blocks around the cathedral managed to stop the advance.
After breaking through the outer fortifications, the cavalry caused havoc inside the core of rebel powers, assaulting their positions from behind and exploiting the limited communication of the enemy. But your real prize is denied from you - when the vanguard of the regiment forces open the gates of the cathedral they only find an inconsequential priest holding a mass calling for sacrifices to defeat their enemies. After eliminating the garrison of the cathedral, your men searched everywhere for a trace of Preacher Zambini, but it seems like your adversary has fled successfully fled from his righteous punishment. Still, this cowardly display will surely dampen the enthusiasm of his followers, who are expected to die for his cause while he saves his own life.
With your forces holding the center of the Giulia district, they are able to strike enemy gatherings with impunity and make any sort of organised defensive line useless. The rebel militia still manages to reap a bloody toll on your ecclisiarchal support, exploiting their complete inexperience, non-existent leadership and general confusion, but they lose just as much to concentrated lighting raid from your Rough Riders supported by overwhelming air power. With the limited casualties incurred by the regiment, Colonel Mehta believes that your victory is only a matter of time and that the performance of his forces was a spectacular success.
Situation:
The 27th Davrian Rough Riders currently hold St. Chirosius Cathedral and the surrounding fortifications, successfully striking out and eliminating any large-scale enemy militia units through overwhelming firepower. The religious conflict in the outer regions has led to large amounts of civilians fleeing conscription from either side or lynching by the riled up mobs. These refugees hope to enter the island of calm of the military occupation, but it is completely unfeasible to check them for infiltrators while the fighting is still ongoing.
The ecclisiarchal mob has been successful in its purpose to distract the enemy, pushing into enemy territory and killing all heretics they encounter. But even with the incorporation of loyal civilians, their complete lack of training or organisation has resulted in significant casualties caused by the prepared rebel militias.
The enemy forces have been successful in their efforts to stop your ecclisiarchal allies from dealing any damage to their capabilities, but this distraction has resulted in large casualties from your professional Rough Riders. You estimate that they lost around half of their forces and even their fanatical morale may not survive if Preacher Zambini does not emerge to rally them once again.
What will be your policy concerning the refugees fleeing the religious conflict in the outer zones?
[ ] Allow the refugees to enter the military occupation zone
[ ] Granting access to the refugees is a risk we cannot afford
What will be your battle plan going forward?
[ ] Write-In
[ ] Continue striking at distracted enemies with overwhelming force, preserving your forces while the enemy cannot retaliate
[ ] Start a broad offensive against the enemy, expanding your occupied zone and preventing more damage to local infrastructure
[ ] Demand the surrender of Zambini into your captivity and eliminate his followers until he comes out of hiding
