Full Steam Ahead: A Train Designer Quest

Should design phases voting be on a generalized focus or on Specifics

  • Total voters
    8
  • Poll closed .
There will be a three hour moratorium to allow for some discussion, while I would prefer not to have plans unless asked for, approval voting will be allowed as a test for this vote.

[] Small Workshop: 300 bloodstones
[] Import and modify foreign locomotives
Even if quality/future expansion isn't the best, I think it's better to be ready to snag up early contracts rather than have a good train and all the contacts have been taken, assuming that our competitors start on the same playing field as us anyway. + don't have opinion about name

Gonna try to be creative and have a write-in for the company name.
While I do appreciate the initiative and desire for creativity I'm going to have to say we're not going to take write-ins unless asked for, I am sorry if that is disappointing.

In the desire to make sure we stay upfront I will say that Modify will lock y'all out of certain options until y'all start to make your own designs later on

Just a heads up due to a miscommunication in our plans Hori accidentally sent that early the moratorium is still in effect I will not ask anyone who made votes already to remove them but they will not be counted until after the moratorium

Start small working on functioning train engines before we innovate up a heavy duty 8 wheeler. Then again, sometimes small isn't the most conductive to rapid expansion.

We also don't really know how expensive importing foreign locomotives will be, and that also locks us out of design
This is partly because y'all would be modifying already designed engines so certain design phases will be skipped is all. As for importing costs y'all will see next post should modify win.

Ok, now the Moratorium is over, you may now vote as normal, the vote will close on Sunday November 6th at 2 pm CST. It's like 9 at night and I woke up at 6:30 so I choose that as to why I'm bad at this.

Yes but it goes both ways, importing the engine cost money and less design choice but start us off with known engine parameters to test customization and get a somewhat stable product out the door faster. Patent law violation can't be enforced unless proven in local court. :V

This lets us start our operations sooner and more cheaply, and I feel it makes our return on investment come about earlier. Gotta survive first before we can think of expanding. The need to be creative with floor space could also be a cause for innovation.

[x] Vaul Iron Works

Gonna go for the 40k reference. Something something Aeldari god of smiths.

[x] Import and modify foreign locomotives

This gives us a baseline to start with immediately and a rough guide for what works when we make our own trains later on.

  1. As UbeOne stated, small lot works better. Assuming these are standard prices, can be relegated to a artisanal and/or training facility later when expanding.
  2. Short and sweet. Plus, shorter names gain an unstated premium later, when the market saturates.
  3. Not only for easy money, but access to clearly-denoted diagrams and proven lessons by the Union's steamheads work well for proving experience of new employees. Grow a crop first before trying for cream.

I think hitting the medium workshop is probably a good starting point to get us to midgame without having to worry about buying new land to expand. Beyond that is this not a train making quest! We design our own like real insane turn of the century types!

So TLDR:

If we've chosen an engineer, I'd go with make our own. But for now, let's start with foreign ones.
@Zeroth Jupi @h0riz0n45, do any of the factories already come with an upkeep cost?

I just want to make sure that it's recognized that soldier was part of their Army Corps of Engineers even if not as formal or thorough an education as the guild of Engineering it wouldn't end in failure. As for upkeep this will be tabulated and presented to y'all when I can find time after work

I honestly prefer the name "Windrunner." It implies that our trains are a fast as the wind, and has a steampunkish fantasy feel to it.

[X] Large Steel Foundry: 1000 Bloodstones

Let's be fair - we're a large country. Like one of the biggest, so let's have room for improvement!

Edit: After looking again, it does seem like large could actually make the highest returns, if we manage things right. :3

[X] Vaul Iron Works

Inb4 we get known for rugged and reliable engines :p :p

[X] Create your own locomotive from scratch

Hmm…To be fair, it could be a good idea to import to have a look, but it never hurts to start early!

Good job on the post btw, @h0riz0n45 and @Zeroth Jupi ;3

So wanna hear something funny? Originally the name Windrunner was because I had a derp and forgot that y'all's surname was Treerunner while writing the vote options with Hori until it was pointed out but we kept it because it sounded great especially if you think of the slogans like "our products are running with the wind" and such.

[x] Import and modify foreign locomotives

We want to grow quickly and wasting our starting capital on rediscovering locomotive technology that already exists and can be imported wont help. Lets design our own locomotives when we know what the needs of the republic even are.
