GODSTAR - a Science Fantasy Civilization Quest

As I think more about it, I, for one, would be a lot more inclined to make a deal if they'd come here looking for one. They came with demands we capitulate and shows of force instead. I think I'm also inclined to tell them to fuck off.

We probably have the upper hand in any war with the Islanders so we should be able to use that leverage to get more reasonable diplomatic terms from them.

I think Cassie is suggesting that they can become more reasonable by the time of peace talks if the war goes our way, not that they are being especially reasonable right now.

Who could have foreseen introducing currency while unifying with the True People would trigger a war with the Island Folks in order to prevent them from easily crashing our fragile financial market. :p

We have to fight them. There's no negotiating. They want to dictate the policies of other True People leagues to maintain their control over their economies. We're a land based power, so this war should be mostly repelling their attacks from the coasts and holding onto our territory. Issue is the newly annexed leagues aren't up to par with us. Their railways aren't all linked up to ours, so transporting troops and supplies won't be as fast as we want it to be. Their military doesn't share our tech either, so they'd mostly be auxiliaries to our soldiers.

I hope for next diplomacy action we speak with the Army of Living Metal for more insight on Machine Army culture. That should make future cultural and diplomatic exchanges more fruitful on penetrating their society.

Why the hell did we research currency anyways?

We were hitting the point where simply remembering who owed who what wasn't working very well any more as we shifted from rural to urban. Barter just wasn't quite cutting it any more, and Sanctuary already had currency which was kind of a mess since they were otherwise a full part of the league.

Plus, it was cheap to grab, and went well with the other cheap to grab stuff.

[X] Reject. The Islander Folk will issue a declaration of war.

I really do not understand what people have against currency. It's just to useful too not have. If we did not invent our own currency we would probably wind up using the islanders.

I mean, most of us are communists who want to abolish currency in the real world too. :D We were hoping we could just skip it and go to proper in-kind planning based on social obligation and debts.

Actually, at the request of several people and seeing as the result is rather overdetermined at this point, I'm opening the vote early.
