Dial up Heroine (Worm/Ben 10)

I think it's something like...
L337 tech is unreliable, it's just as likely to try to kill him, as fail or work properly.
He has allies to cover him to work through, while Lung is alone.
L337 is seen as a joke, Lung isn't.
Lung is the one actively causing property damage and threatening people's lives, something the joke duo don't usually aim to do.

Longer he fights, v stronger and more powerful he becomes, so best to take him out quick.
Leet, while a piece of work, likely won't deliberately target people to kill them... Probably.

Ah, okay. I'd forgotten about L33T's tech being unreliable, and that Lung grows stronger the longer the fight goes on. That's some solid reasoning. I'm not sure if I'll change my vote yet, because we know the group with L33T also contains the alien bounty hunters, and they are the ones with a plan.

Then there's Lung, the biggest threat (literally and figuratively)- but without his Flames he'd just a Brute, whereas Challenger apparently knows Magic and since Charmcaster seems to know Annette then Challenger is probably a decent enough mage if her own mentor caught Charmcaster's attention.

When did charmcaster show up in this story?

[x] [Challenger] Uber, L33t, and unknown Backup

Sure, technically its an assumption, but I don't feel like Lunaryon would throw a Red Herring at us like that.

Well yes that could be Charmcaster, but she always gave off a vibe somewhere between "the tools of mortals are beneath me" and "technology what's that? Can you eat it?"

I don't think she ever used any technology in any of the series or even implied knowledge of it which could be explained because she grew up in that magic dimension ruled by the funky turtle (I don't remember their names but I don't think I could spell them anyways)

so this might be a change caused by her association with Annette

" ᚲᛟᛗᚨ ᛒᛁᚢᚱᛟᛊᛏ᛫ ᚠᛚᛁᛏᛃᚨ ᛃᛟᚱᚢ-ᚠᛇᚷᛁᚱ ᛚᛖᚷᚷᛃᚨ ᚢᛁᚾᚾᚨ ᛚᛃᚢᚷᚨ ᚠᚨᚠᚾᛁᚱ( Koma Bivrost! Flýtja jǫru-fægir leggja vinna ljúga Fáfnir!)

Also my vote

[X][Challenger] Lung, the flying asshole

Eh, only 4/6 of a day left anyways, and nothing else is even close enough- might as well. I just hope this'll be cool, @Lunaryon is far better than I'll ever be so I had complete faith anyways regardless of the winning option.

I'm actually kind of surprised Vicky didn't get a single vote, I'm really hoping that Vicky and Taylor get along- being new Capes, they could very much do with having Cape Friends willing to support each other.

Canon: Ghost on the machine
A/N: Decided to do a thing, so @Lunaryon I hope this helps.

♦ Topic: Why Are The Plumbers So Strange Here?

Posted On Sep 3rd 2009:

I have tried to do proper research, but none of it makes sense to me- The Plumbers are supposed to regulate alien activity, yet the closest I could find are the PRT and Protectorate organizations. Why do they both deny the existence of otherworldly life?

What exactly does plumbing have to do with anything?

@XxVoid_CowboyxX obviously nothing, what could a bunch of plumbers do? Unsink Kyushu?

►Bill_the_Plumber

@TruthSeeker37 That'd be rather extreme, though I do think the PRT needs more plumbers on hand.

Did it not translate right? I thought Plumber was correct. Despite having them openly acting as these 'PRT' and 'Protectorate' things, it just looks weird how they're handling Parahumans. The Plumbers would never tolerate all those laws actively hindering people from acting freely just for having 'powers'.

@Chill_Wind I do not see what is so strange, they are merely plumbers.

@Vilgax You've never done plumbing before have you? It isn't easy, despite how people act.

Am I doing something wrong? I just want to understand what's actually happening. I'm not sure what's going on with Parahumans, but some are obviously alien lifeforms- why is everyone pretending that Speed Liger isn't a Citrakayah?

►TruthSeeker37
Replied On Sep 3rd 2009:
@Chill_Wind one, nobody has any idea what a 'Citrakayah' is and two she's obviously just wearing a costume.

►Hell_On_Wheels
Replied On Sep 3rd 2009:
Okay then, what is a Citrakayah Miss Wind? I never really thought Miss Liger was unusual in anyway.

►Chill_Wind (Original Poster)
Replied On Sep 3rd 2009:
@Hell_On_Wheels being honest I don't actually know a lot about other species, 'Lord' Zs'Skayr wasn't exactly a positive element on my people's knowledge of the greater universe. From what I understand, Citrakayah are like... the Brute version of Kinecelerans, kind of weird Citrakayah don't have tails though.

►Specific_Protagonist

@Chill_Wind Tails, huh? What else? I need to know.

►Chill_Wind (Original Poster)

@Specific_Protagonist Kinecelerans? They're pretty obvious, honestly I don't get why 'Case 53' is a thing- they're clearly alien lifeforms. Seriously, why would anyone think Dino Max is a homo sapien and not a Vaxasaurian?

For a moment, she simply... looked. Honestly, she didn't fully understand what she did wrong, perhaps she should of done more research but she didn't see why playing along was relevant compared to the actual question of why the local Plumbers were so strange in their behavior.

So much of Earth seemed fixated on 'Parahumans', denying the existence of Aliens & Mutants- not to mention the bizarre notions of 'tinkertech'. How was making advanced technology considered a 'superpower'?

Sure, given Earth's general capabilities, they'd probably be impressed by consistent Level Three tech but still- given how 'Parahumans' are generally treated, why even lump in 'Tinkers'? It made no sense, she thought the Plumbers were suppose to make things better yet so many obvious problems were just... being ignored.

She had wanted to wait until she better knew what was going on, but at this rate she was honestly starting to think she should just try approaching one of the Plumbers' local establishments. Hopefully they'll actually listen to her...

Yet before she could log off her account, a new Private Message caught her attention. Opening it, there was a name she didn't recognize, which was strange enough on its own.

AceDefective: What exactly are Plumbers? Going by the data available to me, it would certainly explain a lot.

She wasn't entirely sure what to make of it all, she didn't really know more than the most obvious & public of details. Still, might as well- perhaps this 'AceDefective' knows something.

Chill_Wind: They're supposedly an intergalactic peace-keeping force, though 'Lord' Zs'Skayr kept my people isolated.

What a terrible excuse for a Lord, she didn't understand how he even got in charge- he clearly did not deserve to be their ruler, no matter how many pretend. Being better than the Vladats justifies nothing.

AceDefective: Between your repeated mentions of aliens and the implications you yourself aren't human, what is your species called?

That was easy enough, but this 'AceDefective' likely wanted to know more than that. Either the other person is an Earth native, or very good at pretending.

Chill_Wind: We're called Ectonurites, though my kind are somewhat similar to what humans call 'ghosts'- we're our own living species, despite the notions other races have of us.

For a moment she waited in silence, humans generally stopped listening when the 'supernatural' got involved- aliens too, in hindsight, but she still hoped to have been taken seriously...

AceDefective: You're from an alien species called Ectonurites, and believed the PRT & Protectorate to be some version of the Plumbers- an intergalactic peace-keeping organization. I would like to know more, I'm not a fan of the whole 'cops and robbers' playacting they do.

Yeah, that was another thing that confused her- why would the 'Plumbers' be so lenient with obvious criminals? Even besides the 'Endbringer' things, it seemed like nobody was even afraid of the PRT & Protectorate. Why else would gangs and serial killers be public knowledge yet remain active?

Chill_Wind: You seem to have a decent idea of what's going on. Honestly, I've been having a hard time figuring it all out.

Having a local to regular communicate with is certainly better. Well, presumably, though the odds of a fellow Ectonurite such as herself having reached Earth is very unlikely.

----

A/N: Look, I kind of just did what felt right to me at the moment, and figured I'd try to do a PHO Interlude to make things easier for the inevitable second main story one following Myriad's official debut.

I have other ideas for PHO stuff, but I probably won't do actual Omakes for those- doing one for Ban'Shee pre-debut just seemed important. Man, that is gonna be a weird day for a lot of people.

That's going to have to technically wait a little before being canon, but it works once the time comes

Eh, I kind of just assumed Sep 3rd would of been fine. Mostly because I noticed some of the posts were marked as Sep 3rd and figured "obviously that wouldn't have been posted if Sep 3rd hadn't happened already." Legit just confusion on my part, I'm happy you treated what I did seriously- remembers a Round Robin OP who refused to abandon their bias. That was an awful experience...

Anyways, being honest I kind of expected reactions from others to some of the things I did. Personally I find it really funny someone called TruthSeeker is actively denying the things Ban'Shee is saying instead of inquiring or thinking it over. Would that be irony? I also wanted to clarify that Void Cowboy / Greg was genuinely unclear on how plumbing related to parahumans.

I'll also admit that Ban'Shee was probably kind of careless, but... Looks at Ectonurites. I'd be pretty confident in her position- Humans, on average, seem pretty low-tier and Earth is a very tiny pond. That and Ectonurites are pretty top tier themselves... that might explain why Ghostfreak was so rarely used...

Back to Ban'Shee herself, there is a lot to sort through- and honestly, yeah, she mostly just wanted to know why the "local Plumbers" are so weird. That and, oh god, there's so much LORE with little to no elaboration and that's not even getting into how I'm pretty sure Wildbow simply went "How relevant is this to [Insert Main Character]?"

New York, not very fleshed out- also has two self-cloner Protectorate Members for... some reason. Kudzu literally makes me think "Dulpi-Kate?" from Invincible. Also what the heck is a Whitelister really? I swear, if I wanna even somewhat understand Worm, I'd need to devote a month to careful analysis of literally everything & anything considered official. Given my mind might as well be a sieve, that seems inconvenient.

Live Training Part 5
It's time to remind that overgrown lizard that he shouldn't buy into his own hype. Sure, it is said that he managed to fight off the entire Protectorate when he first arrived, but saying that really... Let's just say that the actual events that happened were a little different from that. Sure, he might have managed to keep the Protectorate from taking him down, but there isn't a single member of the local team who are fire proof, especially not at the levels of heat that he was giving off.

Then he ran away, like the coward that he has always been. Blurring up over the rooftops, Challenger gets closer and closer to the fight. And she needs to make a very clear decision about what she is going to focus on handling first.

Uber and L33t are the ones who have actually started all of this, and they seem to have picked up some backers in order to make things worse for themselves, but at the same time...

Well, honestly, Challenger can't even really discount them as threats, not when they are using Final Fantasy as an inspiration. As good at her magic as Challenger is, the woman has never been particularly good at Elementalism.

That was something that not even Annette was able to teach her. Gah! No. This is not the time to be thinking about her old teacher. Not when there is a threat right on the horizon. Though... Maybe showing off a little for Taylor might make the girl more inclined to sit down and talk with her about the girl's mother.

But Uber and L33t. They are a threat, capable of using unknown tech in order to copy the appearance of what sounds to be a Dragoon and a Black Mage. They can't be dismissed out of hand the way that Challenger normally treats them when they decide to pull up some stupid and not particularly threatening form.

Then there is the fake dragon himself, the flaming idiot with more scales than sense. Lung. Lung is most certainly a threat, if only because he is going to continue to put a lot of people in danger with the fire and the screaming and the throwing things around like a child having a temper tantrum.

So that is something that needs to have some focus put on it as well...

Which only leaves the last of the three. An unknown flying blonde brick. Challenger doesn't really have anything to connect with on that front other than the fact that she is clearly heroically inclined. So the question is, who to focus on first?

[X][Challenger] Lung, the flying asshole
Challenger takes a deep breath as she follows along the carefully crafted bridge of light that soars through the skies, finally having the chance to really put the 420-RR through it's paces. The almost stupidly powerful engine of the machine echoes through the streets below like the bellowing roar of a mighty dragon...

And a real dragon, instead of the fool who insists on thinking of himself as more than the mere Salamander that he is.

As the bike continues to accelerate, the world below all but blurs away into a mix of colors and sounds, before every instinct in the woman's mind clicks together and moves in the way that she has to. Leaping up into the air, Challenger allows herself to flip up and out, her arms and legs splayed to increase as much possible surface area as possible, the same glimmering rainbow energy forming up and around her limbs into something that looks almost like feathered wings slowing her even more.

At the same time of course, the track that the bike is traveling along narrows down to something that grips close to the tires of the 420-RR, preventing the machine from falling over to one side before it comes to a stop atop the closest building, and the magical path even shifting just enough to click down the kick stand so that the bike will not fall over.

Challenger lands hard, the stone beneath her feet cracking as she grins over the battlefield. Naturally, the coward that he is, Lung is the first to notice the new comer, and despite the fact that the man is already nearly nine feet tall, he hasn't changed to the point where his features are impossible to read. The rage and the anger on the man's face is enough to show how frustrated he is with the situation, but the way that he increases close to two inches just the moment that he sees her...

That says more than his face ever could.

The grin that Challenger greets the man with is one that some people would say shouldn't be on the face of a Hero, and certainly not a heroine, but the fact of the matter is that Challenger chose her name for a reason.

Reaching down to one side, the woman pulls forth the massive handle that is the core of her pride and joy. The weapon quickly unfolds, the complex mechanisms within filling with the same pinkish energy that she normally calls forth when not creating more complex structures. "There you are... You overgrown lizard." The woman growls out, eyes glimmering with power.

There is a distinct moment as the rest of the fighters pause, turning and facing the new comer, entirely unsure of what the hell is going on, some more than others.

The most notable reaction comes from the unknown mercenaries, each one pausing, before turning to the rest of it's group. They chitter out some kind of clicking noises, what exactly they are saying Challenger doesn't have the slightest idea, but it is obvious that they at the very least understand their own code.

But it certainly seems that they have an idea of what it is that Challenger is doing, and it is leaving them more than a little unsettled.

Good.

Uber and L33t look between their allies, and even better it seems that they don't have any idea of what it is that they are saying.

Bracing the head of her mighty axe against her shoulder, Challenger stares down everyone in the fight, before simply raising a hand and motioning anyone and everyone that wants some to come forwards. It really shouldn't be a surprise at all, of course, given their history that Lung is the first to make a move. Darting forwards, the threat draws a hand back, idly knocking the unknown flier off to one side as flames lick at the girl before lancing out towards Challenger.

Three steps forwards and to one side Challenger barely has to lean, letting the flames roil past her side as the words slip past her lips, quietly and yet still heard by everyone. " ᚠᛁᚦ ᛘᛖᚷᛁᚾ×ᚷᛄᚪᚱᚦᚪᚱ ᛋᛏᛁᚱᚳᚱ( við megin'gjarðar styrkr) " The same billowing dark pink power flows over Challenger's form, wrapping tight around her limbs like braided cords of sheer force.

Both fighters continue forwards, slamming into each other with an echoing thud of force, the sound louder than the rest of the ongoing fight all together. Lung's claws wrap between the fingers on one of Challengers hands, while the scales of the other arm tries to keep the humming, thrumming forces behind her axe at bay.

The blonde haired girl barely manages to get back to her feet, clearly more dizzy than injured, but at the same time she is clearly in awe of the way that the much smaller woman is facing off against Lung on equal footing.

Back and forth the two titans of the battlefield push and shove against each other, struggling to get an upper hand against either. Slowly... Lung's grip starts to press back against Challenger's, and that would have been enough to possibly make the woman attempt to back off, if not for the fact that at the very same moment the woman's axe glimmers brighter as the scales on Lung's arms creak and begin to bend, crushing inwards as the Witch's magical forces overwhelm the false dragon's defenses.

Before either has a chance to make a decision about pushing on or backing off, the young new heroine is the one that makes the decision. Bursting into motion, the blonde haired girl shoots into the nearest alleyway, and to the other side of the massive metal dumpster that used for the industrial levels of garbage that a business can produce. One heavy kicks sends the thing screeching along the pavement, before the forces at play cause it to tumble, rolling end over end before it crashes into Lung's side.

The false dragon roars in pain, his attempts at pressing back against Challenger forgotten due to the new insult slamming into his side. " Kono kuso yarō!( このクソ野郎!) "

Now that Lung's clawed grip is no longer wrapped around Challenger's hands, the majority off the glimmering cords roil down the woman's body, wrapping around one leg as she lashes out with a single kick, the blow cracking the metal across the shirtless man's chest and throwing him back and away. There is a long moment as Lung struggles to breath. This isn't going to be enough to put the man down or stop the attack, but it is going to at least give Challenger the space to get a better look at the rest of the fight before she continues.

There are still two primary groups that the woman can throw herself against. There is the idiot duo - Uber and L33t and the fact that they are wearing what Armsmaster described as a Dragon outfit, and the man isn't wrong...
The real problem is that while Challenger is a decent gamer... the woman hasn't really ever played Final Fantasy.

Fantasy just isn't really her genre is all. Which she knows is a little ironic, given the nature of her powers and everything like that, but it is the truth. What matters at the moment is that means that the woman doesn't have the slightest idea what the abilities of the form that Uber is wearing is capable of.

Thankfully, even someone like herself that hasn't played the final fantasy series knows enough from just the general cultural osmosis to know what L33t's costume is generally capable of.

The black mage from Final Fantasy is an elementalist, capable of generating ice and fire and lightning. But here's the thing...

Challenger grins, all teeth.

She can do the same thing.

So the woman turns to the blonde girl, her eyes still on Lung for the moment. "Oi!" Challenger calls out. "Newbie!"

"I'm not a newbie!" the newbie calls out, while answering to the name newbie.

"Then what do I call you?" Challenger asks, and there is a distinct moment of silence...

The silence stretches, as Challenger realizes that the girl hadn't actually thought of a name before she came out here. Challenger just laughs, before shaking her head. "Well, now I know that you're a Newbie. So make your choice - The weirdos that attacked one of the Wards, or the pair of idiots playing at Final Fantasy." Challenger offers, and there is a moment of silence as the new girl tries to make her choice.

Which target does the blonde haired girl go after?
[ ][Which] The Bounty Hunters
[ ][Which] The Gamers

[X][Which] The Gamers

Going after the known elements is the safer and smarter option for a newbie, plus they are far less likely to intentionally try to kill her than the ones that targeted a Ward.

[X][Which] The Bounty Hunters

To (the as yet unnamed) Glory Girl, the Wards' safety is a bigger priority than Über and Leet, even if the latter has unknown tech. Besides, she doesn't know about Vilgax backing Ü&L, so it'd be reasonable to go after unknown elements that have nothing known and get info out of them than the two jokesters with unreliable tinkertech.

[X][Which] The Gamers
Über and L33t are ultimately harmless, they'll knock Vicky down and gloat about it, and her hero rep will be ruined due to them beating her. The Double Numbers, however, are very likely to just straight up fucking kill her, or kidnap her and bring her to Vilgax's ship in orbit, possibly taking her out of range of her Shard, which will kill her too.
