I'm not sure about the rest of the rolls, but it looks like we've avoided depleting our reserves. Good. This battle may be more difficult than it seems at first glance.
By the way, what will happen to the troops that have completed their task and have not suffered heavy losses? Will they join us as reserves? Will the line infantry support us with volleys from the walls from a mechanical point of view?

Alariel will support you from the walls, while the Line Infantry will hurry back as they have yet to participate in the next stages of the battle.

Grom WAAAGH!!! - Part 4
Your reverses:

Heavy infantry - 6
This list includes the Phoenix Guard, the Sword Masters, the White Lions, and the Silverine Guard. In general, all those armored soldiers who hold large sharp objects in their hands and are good at killing others with them.
Light infantry - 2
A rather small group, including the Hunters of Chrace, a number of Avelorn fighters, as well as marines of the High Elf fleet.
Mages - 3
No one better than the high elves can handle magic, according to most peoples. And since you turned in many ways to the most powerful principality in this regard, you have many magicians. Lots of powerful mages.
Flying troops - 1
The giant eagles of Avelorn, as well as the griffin-mounted knights of Yvresse, represent this category of troops. Although they are not as impressive as dragons, they have more numbers on their side.
Dragons - 3
Dragons are a great way to solve any problem. After all, what can't an angry fire-breathing lizard weighing several metric tons do?
Tyrion - 3
A mighty warrior, the best duelist of Ulutuan and just a dream for every girl on the island. This is your personal chain dog, which is ready to tear anyone to pieces for you.
Teclis- 2
The greatest mage not only in all of Ulthuan, but a genius that almost no one in all of Elven history can match. And of those living in the world at the moment, comparable to it can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And all of them have many times more experience and life span.
Bellaner - 1
Guardian of the White Tower and one of the best magicians in all of Ulthuan. Not only is he powerful and intelligent, but he is also wise enough to see the potential that Teclis has.
Alarielle - 3
The Queen of Avelorn, accompanied by her own guard of the best archers and warriors of Avelorn. One of the most powerful mages of Ulthuan, accompanied by powerful mages.
Imrik - 1
The Lord of Caledor arrived with his own hand on his star dragon. You wouldn't want to get in his way.
Caradrian - 2
The captain of your personal guard, who is always ready both to protect you and to fulfill any other assignment you have.

It turned out to be not so difficult to occupy the walls, but now another problem awaited you - the Outer City, the largest part of Tor Yvresse, and perhaps the most deadly, since both you and the enemy could deploy significant forces here. Of course, the bulk of the orcs are now retreating. Their main line of defense will be the inner wall, as it is now occupied by the black orcs, which will be a difficult task for anyone to confront.

Here, opponents will try to confront you in a completely different way. Most of the Outer City is under the control of a horde of hobgoblins, who are strangely, but in some way even more disciplined than most orcs. They may be cowards, but unlike orcs, they don't have an insane bloodlust. That is why they will slowly and systematically destroy your troops with raids. Only a part of your troops can match the speed of their wolves, and therefore the maximum you can count on is to slowly move through the outer city, displacing the enemy.

The cavalry units were already rushing into battle. They will have to occupy the largest avenues and isolate the orc units in separate quarters. Plus, part of the heavy cavalry went to the gates of the inner wall. You hope that they will not only be able to capture the gate, but they will also be able to hold it.

So far, your attention has been more drawn to what was happening on the eastern walls. The arrival of additional forces will allow your line infantry to retreat from the walls and regroup, while Allarielle with her magic will help the wounded, and her companions will destroy those orcs that have settled on the walls by shooting. Losses will be high. but not as high as you would personally expect from a similar situation.

You were interrupted from watching the battle by a roar from the west. It was exactly what you were warned about. The city pond was occupied by several forest trolls, and judging by the painful roar of the dragon, these were not ordinary trolls, but gifted in matters of magic. However, what exactly is happening there now you could not see, since the dragons had already begun to incinerate opponents, the water evaporated in huge volumes and a curtain of hot steam rose.

"Blow the attack, Let the troops from the east catch up with the rest, we must not slow down the pace of the offensive" - these were the words of Tyrion.

"Yes, you are right. Where did Teclis go? - this time you ask.

"Sends observers to the towers of the outer wall. They will have to look out for a shaman who has been able to break through the mists of Tor Yvresse."

You silently nodded, but did not have time to answer. Once again there was a monstrous roar, but this time you could see everything. A heavy infantry column was entering the city when a rift appeared above it leading into the Warp. Fortunately, the worst did not happen - a horde of demons did not appear. This would definitely be the last detail you would need in the midst of this assault. But also the huge fist of Gork, - or Mork? - which hit your fighters was also far from the most desirable.

You haven't seen anyone survive. However, on the contrary, most likely none of those who were hit survived. At the point of impact, a small dent was formed in the pavement, about half a meter deep. No matter how strong your armor is, you cannot survive a blow of such force.

However, this also meant that…

"Tirion, give Alarielle a message. The shaman has appeared, let her fighters start targeting the shaman, and "...

You again did not have time to finish, as three more, much smaller fists appeared, but they also fell on your fighters in the same way.

The shaman didn't act alone... Well, at the moment it was already obvious. Along with the other greenskin shamans, he decided to mount some kind of counterattack of sorts to give his fighters time to retreat. So that as many fighters as possible could break out of the encirclement and get to the inner walls, where the black orcs would be able to return them to the line and organize resistance again. Thanks to this, the orcs would not only be able to fight you, but also possibly push you back.

Of course, they would not have been able to crush Ulthuan's army, but they would have been able to at least break out of the encirclement and disperse into the mountains. And then they would turn into a real plague for the whole of Ulthuan. Even worse, thanks to your efforts, there was not even much reason for them to return to the ships, since they were deprived of even the hope of retreating in this way.

Damn!

"King, what do you order? Should we send troops to hunt down the shamans?"

On the one hand, they will certainly cause great destruction. On the other hand, sooner or later the already sent troops will deal with the shamans along with your heroes. Moreover, if you send troops now, it can only create more chaos in the streets.

[] - You can send two troop points from your reserve list or send none. You can send any of your troops for this task. The first troops sent have a 60% chance of being lost. The second ones sent will be lost with a 30% chance. The result is determined by which troops you send.

You only had to answer, and this time another messenger ran up to you.

"King, your majesty… The cavalry you sent to the gates of the inner city. They are surrounded. Because of this chaos, orcs from the outer city managed to reach the gate. The knights are surrounded."

Another extremely disgusting news, but it is understandable. The chaos after these blows allowed the orcs to break out of the cramped quarters where they were herded by cavalrymen into the avenues. And they got to the gates of the inner city, which your heavy cavalry just managed to capture. And now they are between a rock and a hard place.

You had several obvious strategies of action at once. The simplest is to tell them to keep fighting in the hope that you can get to them quickly enough. In addition, you could also send reinforcements to protect them from the rear. But in this case, the reinforcements themselves will be weary of the battle.

And finally, you could simply command them to retreat and break through to you. Of course, you will lose your foothold and thwart the original plan to storm the Inner Wall. But you can save the lives of the fighters this way. In theory, unless the modified assault on the city wall would be even bloodier for you.

[] - You can send any number of troops or heroes to help the heavy cavalry. You can also command them to retreat or not send help at all. The result is determined by the troops sent and their number.

Curses ardently.
Exactly as foretold.
Well, nothing to it now.
We have Mages in reserve for a reason! Deploy the mages!

[X]- Outer City: 1 Mage, then 1 Teclis

(Although it is tempting to send Alarielle, the flavour text declares the struck elves as already dead, so deploying a large group of mages that can counterspell the inferior enemy mages until reinforcements arrive is more important to prevent more death.)

[X]- Inner Walls: 3 Dragons, 1 Flyer, 1 Light Infantry, 2 Mage, 1 Bellanor, 1 Tyrion, 1 Alarielle, 1 Imrik, 1 Caradrian, 6 Heavy Infantry
-[X] Addendum: The dragons and Imrik are to effectively perform bombing runs on clumped Orc infantry until the main force arrives to reinforce, so we don't arrive to already brutalised cavalry. After the main force enters the melee, they and Imrik are to either join the melee themselves, or fly to adjacent areas and obliterate the orcs holding nearby positions so the enemy receives no reinforcements, at their discretion.

(I actually think that the Inner Walls situation is an opportunity. The Heavy Cavalry has done their job by securing a foothold, and now the enemy is trying to assemble in very large numbers in one spot to mob them. This enables us to utterly crush them with overwhelming force in turn, securing us a foothold on the Inner Walls through which the troops that were going to fight in the Old City or the Inner Walls can pass through, while hopefully minimising casualties on our end. Hopefully, so much of our command staff (and healing magic) in one place will prevent anyone from being overly taxed or bogged down. As Machiavelli said, if one plans to hurt the enemy, do so with utterly crushing force!)

(Also, heavy cavalry trying to turn around and fight their way back through a horde of orcs from a standing stop is a stupid trap option.)

…..You whot mate.
Water breathing forest trolls with magic?
….W h a t.
Hopefully can we autopsy those, because I genuinely did not know trolls could even actively cast spells, let alone non-river trolls stage a marine ambush. How long can these bastards even hold their breath?

So one of the things keeping dragons asleep is lack of magical energy to absorb due to the Vortex.

One of the problems the Vortex has is that it constantly shits out portals that throw out magical energy due to its inability to actually handle it all.

Sooooo....why not try and use these facts to solve each other?

That's brilliant!
Although bathing dragons in raw chaos juice is evidently unwise, if we can figure out a magic totem that empowers dragons, and a second magic item that can directly transfer warp-magic into energy for the first (like a pair of electrical transformers), I think you'd be really onto something.

Are you sure, that put all your forces in one place is good idea? More forces not always better, because... Well, dragons can burn few columns of your infantry and other accidents.

A. I was imagining just four dragons doing aerial passes to savage the orcs before everyone else got there; if they're breathing into melee we've made a serious mistake.
B. We have fought with dragons for centuries now; how, unless explicitly told otherwise, is it accepted doctrine to use their breath weapon anywhere where our own troops are caught in the splash fire?
C. These are all the troops that were going to fight on the Inner Walls and Old City anyways. They'd need to come through this point one way or another.
D. I will add an addendum, however. Thank you for the forwarning.

A common tactic for your troops is to stand as far away as possible and let the dragons burn your opponents from a safe distance. Since your troops are surrounded, this condition is no longer met.

IC.
Well, apart from telling the dragons to not breathe fire literally at the high elves, I don't think that part can be helped.
I hope Imrik has a good aim.

[X]Plan Names, my old Nemesis:

- [X]- Outer City: 1 Mage
- [X]- Inner Walls: 2 Heavy infantry, 1 Light Infantry, 1 Alarielle, 1 Tyrion

The ideas go as follows: City - we will eventially kill the shamans, but an extra mage should speed things up
Walls- we need to punch through the city and resque our cav from being trapped while also preserving the bridgehead they secured. So, we senf our elites + some light troops to assist in city fighting, with Alarielle for magic suport and healing and Tyrion as a spearpoint. I am open to extra troops here, but I don't think dragons are good here. Fire is a rather indiscriminant tool at the best of times and urban close quarters is the opposit of the best of times
