Buffy the Vampire Slayer Take Two

"Let's crush these bones and get to the dance." You looked at Amy with a smile. She smiled back tucking her hair behind her ear.
I'm confused. Did the group NOT crush the bones?

"Since she started remembering the weird stuff that happens here and she was useful about it," you shot back.

"Is that the basis we're going by," Buffy asked with fake cheer.
Oh, boy. I think that Buffy was taking it as that Xander was only a friend to her because she's extremely useful against the supernatural. I think his explanation managed to smooth things over, but that dance made everything worse again.

[X]Follow her as back up

Buffy needed back up last time so I don't want her to face this alone again.

The group did, in fact, not crush the bones. They planned to do it, but they all wanted to take a bit of time to cool off at the dance, and by the time that was over the original suggestion was entirely forgotten, and Giles decided to just bury the bones. That is something that will be a risk of happening if it's not something that Xander as a character would naturally feel strongly about. After this he most certainly will be a strong proponent of preventing material being available for resurrection, but before he hadn't thought of it seriously as being possible, and nobody really wanted to dwell on what happened to Buffy and the Master

Yeouch, Buffy still tried to dance with us. That's going to be an awkward topic to bring up later, because it is something we can't afford to just shrug off. Buffy needs to know it wasn't okay and made Xander feel cheap and used, Buffy definitely needs to apologize to Amy, and while he did nothing wrong Xander needs to do something nice for Amy to reinforce that.

I'm not really sure what we could have done here to get Buffy past her PTSD without a meltdown, though hopefully things will go as decently as canon with her smashing the Master's bones... if he doesn't actually resurrect and throw canon off-course anyway. That'd be a very different reception for Spike and Drusilla to walk into.

Quite frankly Buffy is doing better than she did in the show. She's a bit high strung, and distant, but she has not been cold to her friends and been consistently reaching out towards them. The dance with Xander was mean, but was far more aimed at Angel than anything to do with playing around with Xander, and she will apologize once she's more on an even scale. And Xander will definitely be doing something nice for Amy!

The Master's End
Angel joined you both as you headed for the Bronze to deal with the vampires working to raise the Master. It was a relief to see her giving him the cold shoulder, even as he argued that she shouldn't be doing this alone. What were you, chopped liver? Yes you weren't enhanced, but you had been there when Buffy died, and Angel hadn't been.

You reached the Bronze and saw what looked like Cordelia, tied up and crying on the stage. You moved to get her lose, only for Buffy to catch you. "That's not Cordelia." The vampire reacted and laughed at you before attacking. Of course, a single vampire against the slayer is nothing. The only question was why the vampires would do this. Buffy pushed hard, but the vampire wasn't talking until Angel stepped in and started really hurting it. It had been a lure to move Buffy away from the others so they could be sacrificed to raise the Master.

You had left the others behind, thinking they were safe, and now they were going to pay for that mistake. Buffy hurried out. You felt like you were badly lagging behind following after her and Angel. If only you were a little stronger, a little faster. You could only hope that Buffy would reach there in time.

You reached the grounds where the vampires were doing their little resurrection ritual, Willow, Amy, Cordelia, Giles, and Ms Calendar staked out and ready to be sacrificed. Buffy and Angel were making quick work of the vampires, leaving you to slip in and untie everyone. You dragged them out of the way, trusting Buffy to cover your back as you dealt with it. The head vampire went up in flames screaming as Buffy finished up. You relaxed as Amy stirred and looked up. "Xander?"

"I got you," you assured her. "Everything's alright now."

In the middle of the room, Buffy eyed the bones. She lifted the sledgehammer one of the vampires had been using, and smashed the bones. When they finished crumbling she broke down in tears. You ached to go to her, but you had your arms full already with Amy, and Willow nearby. Angel was the one to walk over and wrap around her, giving her the comfort she sorely needed.

Getting things back to normal after this took some time, and a fair amount of ice cream. Buffy apologized to you and Amy for being a jerk when she'd wanted to mess with Angel while upset, and you took Amy out bowling to spend time with her one on one. You were worried that Angel was starting to draw closer to Buffy, despite everything.

Xander was just wishing that he could do more so training sounds good. Also, he was building good memories all summer so I'm not worried about him needing a break. I'm not sure what we'd get out of watching Angel when Angel would probably know that Xander is there. Watching Angel might upset Buffy too if she thinks that Xander is doubting her judgement.
